I've felt terrible for just over a week. Throat soooo sore, achy, swollen neck glands etc. Anyone else had it and how long does it last? It's vile!

Hate to tellyou but I'm on week 3, it keeps easing and I start to feel better but then it comes back with a vengeance. It's bloody awful.

Georgieporgie29 · 11/01/2023 09:31

I’m only on day 5 I was hoping I’d be near the end now 😭 feeling absolutely rotten

Yes. Got over it in 2 weeks. Get difflam spray, that helps.

JeanMarie · 11/01/2023 09:38

Also hate to tell you but I'm into day 14 today of it....though I feel a little bit more human today. I've never had a sore throat so painful plus the most irritating dry cough and fatigue. I'm using Difflam mouthwash to gargle with, Jakemans honey and lemon boiled sweets, Covonia for tickly cough and alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen on days when I feel feverish and very sore. My bedside cabinet looks like a chemists shop! My dp says i sound like a hybrid of Dot Cotton and Zelda. He also recommended I gargle with TCP...tried that but omg...it made me retch...which in turn hurt my throat more. I'll try to be more sympathetic if he gets it.
Hope you feel better soon!

Iamthewombat · 11/01/2023 11:27

The saving grace of this virus, op, is that it stays in your throat and doesn’t go on your chest! Good luck, it will go eventually.

The OP is unwell and feels crap. Don’t deny her a bit of comfort and reassurance.

Mine and my DD's started with the throat and progressed to chesty cough, sinus infection, ear infection etc. I'm on day 8, have antibiotics and steroid spray. Feeling slightly better (sofa not bed). DD was very ill for 8 days, recovered enough to go to school for four days, then relapsed and spent the next 10 days basically in bed. 2 lots of antibiotics, steroid spray, ear drops. Still coughing 6 weeks later.

OldTinHat · 11/01/2023 12:20

Three weeks today here!

There are dozens of threads for you to go on to entertain yourself. Not helpful.

OP, didn't get swollen glands but I have had the sore throat and cough since 19th December. It was getting better towards the end of December but it took a turn for the worse last Friday. It's better than it was but I'm still a little catarrhy in the morning. Sometimes the pain is on the right, sometimes on the left.

Thelnebriati · 11/01/2023 12:41

I know this sounds bonkers, but I gargle with chlorhexidine mouthwash or Listerine every time I've been somewhere busy. I normally get the flu or a sore throat every winter, and it might be a coincidence but I haven't had anything like that since I started. The rest of the family work in retail and catch everything that's doing the rounds.

Oh no don't say three weeks! I'm on week 2 and sick to death of it.

katseyes7 · 11/01/2023 15:49

I can’t comprehend the mentality of people posting things like this.
So what ? Plenty of other threads to read.
You actually went out of your way to come on this thread to say this.
It baffles me it really does.

Marigoldandivy · 11/01/2023 15:57

only a week in my case, so you might be lucky!

Corilee2806 · 11/01/2023 19:18

Had it since about the 21st - feel absolutely dreadful and at my wits end. Have a 1 and 4 year old, signed off work and can’t do anything. Keep thinking I’m better then it knocks me flat again. Sending solidarity. I wish there was a quick fix!

Corilee2806 · 11/01/2023 19:19

Mine started in my throat and as a cold, never on my chest - now in my ears and feels absolutely horrible.

3 weeks here. Second difflam spray, was only way I could sleep at night. One round of antibiotics. Was worried I’d need more as kept getting temperatures, but none in last 24hrs so hope it’s on its way out. Felt rough as week one, temp was 41 was for nearly 72 hours.

colouringindoors · 11/01/2023 19:22

Yep. Three weeks plus. Finally tested positive for Covid. Bear in mind LFTs are MUCH less reliable at picking up new strains (50% accuracy say some docs).

Rest as much as possible.....

Bard6817 · 11/01/2023 19:23

2.5 weeks so far. Can feel i’m nearly over it.

Kazzyhoward · 11/01/2023 19:25

3 weeks here and still got symptoms, but it feels to be getting better. Still no sense of taste or smell though.

PawMaw · 11/01/2023 19:26

I'm on week 5 - now just the sore throat (very swollen and difficult to swallow even saliva) and annoying cough. I don't feel ill anymore though, first 2 weeks I couldn't stay awake!

DH recovered after 2 weeks, still sore throat now (week 3)

DS1 - 6 days totally fine now

DS2 - 10 days, fine now but had a 39.9 fever on day 10

Never known so many people to be ill for so long with the same symptoms
