To ask does anyone know if 111 out of hours can give anything strong?

I’m already on oromorph, zomorph, diazapam and cocodamol. Can’t take anything from NSAIDs family.

Had back surgery 5 weeks ago, today is genuinely the first day I’ve been in agony. Nothing is working. I don’t know what to do with myself, can they give me an injection ?

If they decide your case warrants it, they will request a ring back from a clinician or ask you to go to A&E.

They're a phone service. They don't administer or prescribe anything themselves.

YouWithoutEnd · 06/01/2023 20:52

If your pain is so poorly controlled on that cocktail then you need to be back under the care of your spinal team as an inpatient, not seeing the Out of Hours service.

LittleDonkeyKong · 06/01/2023 20:57

Did you not call your GP surgery today?

jamsandwich1 · 06/01/2023 20:57

I don’t think anyone will give you anything extra without being seen in person given your history and what you’re already on. Hope you get it sorted but sounds like a stint in A&E may be suggested.

HarriwithanI · 06/01/2023 20:59

They only work week days 9-5 and tried ringing today. I’ve had so many issues only just finished antibiotics for a septic wound (it didn’t close properly) the hospital is 2.5 hours away that specialises.
We ring 111 to get through to a Gp

LittleDonkeyKong · 06/01/2023 20:59

Definitely call 111 and a clinician maybe able to prescribe or advice you going to either an urgent treatment center or A&E depending on what they think is the best route of care for you.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/01/2023 20:59

111 can’t prescribe, only refer. They should direct you to the appropriate professional.

Sorry, back pain is horrible 💐

HarriwithanI · 06/01/2023 21:00

Yes contacted Gp told no emergency appts left!

You could have asked the GP receptionist to ask the Dr if they would be happy to issue anything without a consultation given your recent history which would all be on your record. I'm a GP receptionist and would have offered this.

HarriwithanI · 06/01/2023 21:01

Thank you all, I’ll see if I can get to someone.
I work in A&E normally. In our group chat it’s a 14 hour wait atm and I know it’ll be longer overnight as less drs working. That is a last resort so thought I’d see could OOH give just an injection.

tabulahrasa · 06/01/2023 21:02

They can refer you to an out of hours GP, or send you to A&E

An out of hours GP won’t give you anything extra - I saw one for my back last year, I was on less than that and they couldn’t add in anything else.

MilkyYay · 06/01/2023 21:02

Do you not have an ordinary GP you are registered with you could have rung?

111 can send you to an out of hours GP.

Rowthe · 06/01/2023 21:05

Unlikely.

With your history, unless it was bad enough for a and e the advice would be to talk to your own GP.

HarriwithanI · 06/01/2023 21:09

I was with my GP yesterday for wound packing and was fine then today boom.
did ring gp and was just told no and hung up on basically. I need to start keeping track what I’m taking and when

OP posts:
HarriwithanI · 06/01/2023 21:09

I’ll see how I go overnight thanks everyone

OP posts:
Foodylicious · 06/01/2023 21:12

Was going to suggest probable infection as cause of sudden increase in pain.
Just read all.your replies re finishing antibiotics.
I'd still want to get the wound looked at tomorrow.
Have you checked your temp?

HarriwithanI · 06/01/2023 21:17

Temp seems ok. Does anyone here know can you get cauda Equina twice? I really feel like how I did last time in dec

OP posts:
LittleDonkeyKong · 06/01/2023 21:19

I would ring 111 if only to get some advice from a clinician

Foodylicious · 06/01/2023 21:20

If that's a possibility the you def need to ring 111 or 999 depending on the severity of your concern.
I wonder if the wound packing yesterday has aggravated something?

HarriwithanI · 06/01/2023 21:22

Somethings not right, I’ll deffo get sorted.

OP posts:
Prinnny · 06/01/2023 21:30

There’s no way that anyone will prescribe you anything else on all that. Have you been referred to the pain team? They may be able to titrate your zomorph based on your oramorph useage

ShakespearesBlister · 06/01/2023 21:38

With that amount of pain relief and such strong ones, it does sound like something is not at all right. I never even had a fraction of that with three lots of back surgery. Definitely keep trying to get an emergency appointment.

Notplayingball · 06/01/2023 21:45

That's some concoction of pain meds. Hopefully you have success at getting through to 111 for advice 💐

Yes you can get it more than once. Can you get hold of the ward from the spinal hospital? Or do they have an A and E you can get to?

HarriwithanI · 07/01/2023 03:58

I’m waiting on my dad to come in the morning so I can go A&E.
111 advised Ooh think it’s best I go there. Thank you all flowers
