To ask does anyone know if 111 out of hours can give anything strong?

I’m already on oromorph, zomorph, diazapam and cocodamol. Can’t take anything from NSAIDs family.

Had back surgery 5 weeks ago, today is genuinely the first day I’ve been in agony. Nothing is working. I don’t know what to do with myself, can they give me an injection ?

I was with my GP yesterday for wound packing and was fine then today boom.
did ring gp and was just told no and hung up on basically. I need to start keeping track what I’m taking and when

Hi, I have no advice for now but I really hope you’re sorted soon.
about taking track of your meds; I was taking a few different drugs for a while whilst (ahem) not at my best after an injury nearly a year ago. I found that myself what and when, each time I took something helped immensely.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 07/01/2023 04:35
  • I found that texting myself
HarriwithanI · 07/01/2023 04:35

@Yesthatismychildsigh thank you, it’s so easy to get carried away isn’t it and the 4 hours slowly decreases

That’s an excellent idea

Especially when the times between the meds are different. Hope it helps you.

HarriwithanI · 07/01/2023 04:45

Thank you it deffo will

Oramorph made me that out of it that I ended up just taking a screen shot on my phone so I could look back at the time 😂

Not that it’s any help practically, but I’ve phoned 111 twice for back pain, the time I saw the OOH GP and the time they sent me to A&E and I ended up being admitted for 2 days till they could get the pain under control.... wasn’t cauda Equina.

HarriwithanI · 07/01/2023 06:27

@tabulahrasa im hoping I’ve just accidentally strained it but I’ve gone from needing no painkillers, fine mobility to full painkillers, still in pain and needing crutches. My birthday Monday too, my 30th last year had covid.
health is wealth and all that though

Could you get back in touch with the ward? That's what I did when i had post op complications following spinal surgery.

HarriwithanI · 07/01/2023 06:39

@BeautifulBirds good shout, I didn’t think of that. It’s just a good few hours away and I’m unrealistically hoping I’m not kept in or it’s just muscle damage

I was that bad and it’s “just” 😐 inflammation 😂

That much pain is horrible, no matter what it is, but it could be something temporary so fingers crossed for you 😊

Throwncrumbs · 07/01/2023 06:46

You need an urgent review by the team who did your op, I’m surprised you don’t know this if you work in A&E, if you ‘need’ an injection you need to be seen. Are you the person who want to sue?

HarriwithanI · 07/01/2023 06:54

Yes I’m that person and I wrote that in anger. I’m useless when it comes to my own health.

You should have your sugical teams contact for either follow up clinic or you can ring the ward.

you are taking a large amount of controlled drugs, if you work in A&E Im surprised you are not aware that no one can just give you an injection over and above that level of controlled pain medication.
111 don’t prescribe, especially not over the phone, they signpost to out of hours services as pp have said.

Sorry that you are in such pain though op, it sounds awful. If you are the person suing the NHS due to mismanagement, it’s clear that this has affected you hugely.
I hope you get relief soon op so you can get some sleep and recovery.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/01/2023 06:56

You need to get in touch with your spinal team.

HarriwithanI · 07/01/2023 06:59

I will do thank you.

I meant Ooh - wasn’t sure if they could give an IM injection to help but I realise the pain needs investigating.

Hi op

Download a medicine reminder app and input everything you're taking. Or get someone else to. It will flash up when your next doses are due. Hope you get sorted.
