Shamelessly posting for traffic. I’d like to mark my 40th year in some
way. A little like a 40th year bucket list. I have fairly modest things in mind.
So far I have a couple of ideas- read 10 classic books, enter 40 competitions, donate blood, and attend a sporting event. What did you do? What would you add to yours? Thanks so much for your ideas and experiences!

I went on a steam train with friends and family and we had a pub lunch at the turnaround point. I was 6 months pregnant and it was the best I could come up with!

itispersonal · 29/12/2022 21:14

I'm in my 40th year next year I've been making a list I think I'd struggle for 40 things so up to 20, these might change.
Already done a sky dive, bungee jump when younger.

Drive a steam roller, wing walk, sleep in a tent for the first time, get a tattoo, shave head, micro blading. X

itispersonal · 29/12/2022 21:15

Ooo a tattoo should definitely be on my list

Secondrater · 29/12/2022 21:16

I had an hours riding lesson. Never even been in the same field as a horse before. Glad I did it.
What about a concert or show with an overnight hotel stay?

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 29/12/2022 21:20

Lost 20lb and went to Vegas Grin

Inextremis · 29/12/2022 21:21

I turned 40 trying to sleep under a table on a ferry to Ireland, where DH and I had a holiday for 2 weeks - during which we bought a house, then went home, sold our flat, and moved countries. Best decision EVER! (but obviously not for everyone!) Hope you have a glorious 40th year :)

2chocolateoranges · 29/12/2022 21:24

Nothing special throughout the year however I had a 40th party with all my nearest and dearest. I had a wonderful evening!

1st ever party I had ever had.

321zyx · 29/12/2022 21:25

Had DS!

ladywithnomanors · 29/12/2022 21:25

I got married

TokyoSushi · 29/12/2022 21:26

Mine was 2020 so it was pretty rubbish 😞

ditalini · 29/12/2022 21:29

Got pregnant. Found out I was pg after 4ish years of ttc the week after my 40th bday, so the whole year was either pregnancy or newborn.

I spent much of the day of my birthday in a bad mood because I was so "premenstrual" 😁

MrsHamlet · 29/12/2022 21:29

I took myself to Hawaii!

U1sce · 29/12/2022 21:29

I have a list and its full of things I love and that make me feel good - instead of what feels like a huge to do list for me (fair play to all those who enjoy them!) So mine includes watching a sunrise, listening to birdsong, swimming in the ocean - basically immersing myself in nature. So maybe think about adding a few things like that for yourself as well

CoQ10 · 29/12/2022 21:29

Had twins 😉😉😉

Awumminnscotland · 29/12/2022 21:31

Travelled solo by train to Madrid Lisbon and Porto for one trip over my birthday then later in the year went on a luxury beach holiday with my friend in Crete. Best year was had and kicked off a whole new chapter to my life by making peace with being me, being single and getting the best out of my life.

LoveAHolidayOrTwo · 29/12/2022 21:32

I hosted my first adult birthday party and went on my first cruise.

CraigDavid · 29/12/2022 21:34

Mine was in lockdown so I basically didn't!

Beesmakehoney · 29/12/2022 21:35

It was in 2020. I walked around a park with some friends with coffee we brought from home as we couldn't even get takeaway. Haven't celebrated post covid as I can't see the point really.

Judgyjudgy · 29/12/2022 21:37

A week away to a beach resort, I was pregnant so no drinks and limited food for me ... plan to do it properly when DC is a bit older although by then I'll probably be too tired! Enjoy OP!

wheresmyshoe · 29/12/2022 21:38

Went to Madrid, it was brilliant.

Changingmynameyetagain · 29/12/2022 21:38

I turned 40 just before covid hit in 2020.
DH and I are having a few days In Edinburgh in a couple of weeks to celebrate my turning 43 this year, it’s the first time we’ve been away alone since DD was born and she’s 16!
I’Ve also decided I want to dye my hair bright pink, I don’t care if I’ll look ridiculous, I’m just going to do it.
