to think breakfast for dinner is weird?

This is a thing my BF's family do a lot. Full English breakfast fry up at dinner time- 'breakfast for dinner'.

This is having had a normal breakfast and lunch throughout the day, not like they've slept all day and got up at dinner time and so this is the first time they're eating.

I think this is so strange. Just wondering whether this is a thing that people do or if its just them? And am I being weird for being so against it?

It's called an Ulster Fry in Northern Ireland and is proper food at any time of the day

Timeforachangeisitnot · 27/12/2022 21:12

Food of the gods, but no way am I ready to eat this at stupid o’clock in the morning. Full English ( or Scottish in my case) at lunch is OK, but at dinner is just fab. Hold the sausage, add a tattie scone.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/12/2022 21:12

A fry up is a perfectly acceptable meal at any time of the day

I absolutely hate an ‘all day breakfast’ at anytime if the day. My ex p used to cook them all the time for breakfast or dinner and leave a horrible greasy mountain of dishes in the kitchen, they would stink the whole house out for days. So glad I don’t have to put up with that anymore!

I'm sure he's happily eating fry ups elsewhere.

Phos · 27/12/2022 21:13

I love breakfast for dinner.

Notanotherone6 · 27/12/2022 21:14

We probably do a full English for tea every couple of weeks. It's one meal that we can guarantee all our kids will eat.

bizzywiththefizzy · 27/12/2022 21:14

Even better with home made chips to dip in the yolks(runny) . Black pudding is a must .

Bonjovispyjamas · 27/12/2022 21:14

I only ever eat a fry up at dinner time. Morning is the only time of day I don't feel like eating, you're definitely the weird one 😜

BaublesandBangles · 27/12/2022 21:14

I love a fry up for dinner. Has to have baked beans and toast with it though.

PriamFarrl · 27/12/2022 21:15

Sometimes all you want is a bowl of cornflakes.

Hertigruten · 27/12/2022 21:16

My kids love breakfast for dinner.

Recycledblonde · 27/12/2022 21:16

I’m perfectly capable of having curry/chilli and rice for breakfast and scrambled eggs on toast for dinner. Legacy of 12 hour shifts when you could get a meal break at 9.30am.

Sowhatnextthen · 27/12/2022 21:17

Pre Dd I’d regularly have a bacon butty or cereal for dinner after work, if I just couldn’t be arsed to faff about cooking properly

TwoMonthsOff · 27/12/2022 21:17

I want an ADB with chips now 🍳

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/12/2022 21:17

You're a snob, OP. It's a very traditional working class tea.

I used to do one every couple of months (vegetarian) but have lost my source of Staffordshire oatcakes, so it's not as exciting now.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/12/2022 21:18

Not weird here. Almost everyone I know does or has done it. 😛

TightFistedWozerk · 27/12/2022 21:18

Hit his habsolutely discusting, OP, you harr not wrong, dreadful oiks they are, brrrrrrrrrr.

Monica2507 · 27/12/2022 21:18

Pancakes are usually a breakfast item, but on pancake day everyone has them for dinner. I also love cereal anytime of day!

EveryLittleWish · 27/12/2022 21:20

It’s not that weird at all!

Also, on the opposite side, it’s common in other countries/cultures to eat “dinner” food for breakfast.

With food, there are no rules !!!

I'm exactly the same. Some people are horrified by my eating habits.

Susurrar · 27/12/2022 21:29

Definitely a thing in our house and we even call it “breakfast for dinner”. I could not have a fry up
for breakfast (unless I could nap all day afterwards), breakfast for dinner works a lot better for me! We only have it maybe every couple of months so it’s not a very frequent occurrence.

Pearls1234 · 27/12/2022 21:36

YABU, we’ve had this a few times. Not seeing the issue.

mewkins · 27/12/2022 21:38

My parents used to do this when I was a kid. We never had a cooked breakfast in the morning, only in the evening 😄

glittereyelash · 27/12/2022 21:41

Brinner is amazing especially if you are hungover or feeling crap

Waffles for dinner with bacon and maple syrup 😋 YABVU

This exactly! I have more time for waffles from scratch after work, and we often have “breakfast” for dinner
