to think breakfast for dinner is weird?

This is a thing my BF's family do a lot. Full English breakfast fry up at dinner time- 'breakfast for dinner'.

This is having had a normal breakfast and lunch throughout the day, not like they've slept all day and got up at dinner time and so this is the first time they're eating.

I think this is so strange. Just wondering whether this is a thing that people do or if its just them? And am I being weird for being so against it?

My husband always adored coming home from work to a fry-up .

Twokidsanddone · 27/12/2022 20:58

YABU! When meal planning me and DP often throw a fry up in the mix for dinner! As a student cereal and toast for dinner was a staple. Occasionally ill still have cereal and toast in the evening if I'm too fried to cook for myself after working and getting the kids to bed

Ramsbottom · 27/12/2022 20:59

I don’t understand what you mean you’re against it. Seriously, you’re against his family eating bacon sausage and egg for dinner?

😂

UsingChangeofName · 27/12/2022 21:00

YABVVVVVU

A "cooked breakfast" is my 'go to' if I go to a cafe for lunch.
It is one of my favourite meals, but I'm not hungry enough for it when I get up in the morning.

dudsville · 27/12/2022 21:00

It's just food though. Sometimes I'm not terribly hungry and a fried egg on toast or a bowl of porridge or cereal is perfect. I prefer my proper meal of the day to be at lunch time. I'd also happily have a sausages bap for lunch, and a stir fry for breakfast with chillies and soy sauce.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 27/12/2022 21:01

It’s just food. Do you think it’s lower class or something?

Jingleoverthatway · 27/12/2022 21:02

Ooh I love brinner!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/12/2022 21:03

We often have brinner on a Friday evening. I’d puke eating it in the morning though.

Frabbits · 27/12/2022 21:04

YABU.

Mixed grills and all day breakfasts are a thing for a reason.

Soozikinzii · 27/12/2022 21:04

We do this alot . We call it brunch. In fact we don't fancy breakfast at breakfast time . Maybe it's a Northern thing !?

x2boys · 27/12/2022 21:05

We do.this sometimes only we call.it tea.

IScreamMonday · 27/12/2022 21:05

I wouldn't call it breakfast & never heard of brinner before this thread but if I'm tired eggs on toast and a cup of tea is a perfect dinner.

CountZacular · 27/12/2022 21:05

I really think this must be one of those wide-eyed faux naivety posts because you must have lived under a rock to have never noticed All Day Breakfast on a menu. Which makes me agree with a previous post - this is actually some strange classist judgement isn’t it?

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 27/12/2022 21:06

Breakfast dinner is my children's favourite dinner! A full English is too big for breakfast!

pictoosh · 27/12/2022 21:07

We do this now and again. Don't most people?

123woop · 27/12/2022 21:08

Brinner is a winner

Sage396 · 27/12/2022 21:08

We do this sometimes... I really dislike a fry up for breakfast as it fills me up too much and throws my other meal times off for the rest of the day, but love one for dinner.

Violashift · 27/12/2022 21:08

Always annoys me that you can't get' breakfast' food in a restaurant. I would often prefer eggs benedict to the usual crappy pasta dishes and burgers

TheChosenTwo · 27/12/2022 21:08

Ooh a full English for dinner! My dc love this, we probably have it a couple of times a year when we have a glut of eggs to use (we keep hens and do give a lot of eggs away when they’re laying plenty).
It’s lovely and we don’t ever have it for our first meal of the day, for lots of reasons but one of them being only one person in this house eats ‘breakfast’ before work/school - the rest of us warm up to food at about 10/11am.

NosyNeighbour22 · 27/12/2022 21:08

I absolutely hate an ‘all day breakfast’ at anytime if the day. My ex p used to cook them all the time for breakfast or dinner and leave a horrible greasy mountain of dishes in the kitchen, they would stink the whole house out for days. So glad I don’t have to put up with that anymore!

Boooooot · 27/12/2022 21:09

Dinner time is the best time for a fry up!

Stressedmum2017 · 27/12/2022 21:10

A full english for tea is awesome, time to get with the program op

ColdHandsHotHead · 27/12/2022 21:10

If I have eggs Florentine, it's usually for dinner. Too big a faff to make it for breakfast.

Notplayingball · 27/12/2022 21:11

userxx · 27/12/2022 20:53

I just call it a fry up.

This.

Why complicate matters🤷

wejammin · 27/12/2022 21:11

OP how do you feel about cereal or porridge for tea?
