To think parents shouldn't be upsetting their kids dressing up as The Grinch?

I've seen several videos on social media where parents film their small children's reactions of "The Grinch" coming in the room with a bag to take their presents from under the tree. The children in the videos are screaming and crying their eyes out and in one the kid is really screaming and trying to hit the grinch and telling him to get out.

It's not staged, these kids are really frightened and crying! Even when they tell the kids after it's a "joke," why would parents want to upset their kids at Christmas like this for a joke? Then to put it out there on social media where it'll no doubt be shared year after year on TikTok and the like!

It's just horrible!

Likes and tiktok fame are more important. The parents are utter twats. Some of the kids I’ve seen are actually trembling in fear. It’s horrible.

It really is horrible to see! Those poor kids!

I agreed with a comment on tiktok saying it’s not right as the kids are so distressed and got told to stop being a ‘Karen’. The child was about 3 and was shaking and sobbing with lots of adults laughing and winding him up.

We’re not dealing with sensible people, these are people that prioritise likes and followers over their children’s well-being and privacy. There’s no boundaries, they will humiliate and scare their children and others laugh along. We really need some good laws around putting children online.

These kids need to grow up. It's just a Grinch. Mums and dads are making some great content.

I’ve come across a couple while bored scrolling and it’s actually really upsetting to see.

Some of the children have looked really distressed.

You have to be an absolute arsehole to “prank”
your children like that. It’s not funny in the slightest.

saturdaymorningbored · 26/12/2022 18:00

I couldn't agree more op, i already says this to my DH
I like TikTok and find the majority of pranks on it funny but I honestly couldn't believe how cruel this was, really unbelievably cruel

MelchiorsMistress · 26/12/2022 18:01

Yanbu. I had a little look at TikTok for the first time recently and was so shocked that parents were doing this and it’s not just because I’m old!

People terrifying their children pretending to be the grinch, giving their children a one ‘swear pass’, people laughing at the visibly upset small child who has just been made to believe that an elf drew on their face while they were sleeping - wtf are all these people thinking? It’s horrible.

Afterfire · 26/12/2022 18:01

It’s child abuse.

I’ve seen the videos popping up everywhere. I don’t know what the fuck has happened to us as a society that people are finding this stuff funny. It’s disgusting.

Catterpillarwithconverse · 26/12/2022 18:04

It's disgusting

Livelovebehappy · 26/12/2022 18:05

It’s a certain ‘type’ of person who does this. You can’t argue with stupid unfortunately, and there are a lot of stupid people on social media I’m afraid….

unclebuck · 26/12/2022 18:05

Abusive twats. My uncle used to mock his kids for fun and video 'pranks' and they all hate him now and don't spend time with him. This is that these parents have to look forward to. I hope their 'fans' will be treating them to lovely Christmas dinners in their old age and they don't end up all alone like my awful Uncle.

KittensNotMittens · 26/12/2022 18:05

Reminds me of the kindergarten in America where a couple of the (ex) workers decided it was a super idea to don Scream masks and scare the beejezuz out of the ‘naughty kids’ (or those who wouldn’t finish their kunch) by getting right in their faces and causing them around the rooms. Another worked videoed it.

what is wrong with some people?

FixitJesus · 26/12/2022 18:06

It's funny

It's funny

If you find it funny there’s something wrong with you.

KittensNotMittens · 26/12/2022 18:06

Why is a distressed child funny? Would you have seen the humour as a three year old?

BluebirdRobin · 26/12/2022 18:07

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds this disgusting! It's really horrible to see and I doubt these children will be very happy when older that these videos are out there!

This is what happens when people’s lives revolve around social media.

AdventuringAway · 26/12/2022 18:08

It’s absolutely grim. Scaring your kids for “content”.

RambamThankyouMam · 26/12/2022 18:08

What type of person

Stupid, self absorbed people who thing every one else Inc their kids is just a bit player in the show of their life and as such inconsequential

What type of person

Watch the videos, and you will see for yourself the sort of people that do this, and who find it hilarious.

lynthesearesexpeople · 26/12/2022 18:11

Thing is, those poor children will always remember that.

My parents used to hide from me and find it hilarious when I was frantically looking for them crying. Same shit. I hated them for it.

BluebirdRobin · 26/12/2022 18:12

FixitJesus · 26/12/2022 18:06

It's funny

It's not funny.. a joke is joke and prank is a prank. But making your kid scream, cry and become extremely distressed whilst filming it is not a funny prank at all.
