AIBU to think that this cartoon has the same twist as The Sixth Sense?

Spoiler alert added in the title by MNHQ after we had a few reports about the content of the opening post.

OP posts:
jetadore · 25/12/2022 22:38

Am I right in thinking that you’ve just dropped a massive spoiler on everyone who hasn’t seen it?

ThreeblackCats · 25/12/2022 22:40

Wow! Spoiler alert op! I was planning to watch it on catch up.

JustKeepSlimming · 25/12/2022 22:41

Eh? No... unless there's some underlying meaning that I completely missed!

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 25/12/2022 22:42

Well they’re not dead or seeing dead people so…

KickHimInTheCrotch · 25/12/2022 22:55

Hardly a spoiler, it's a short animation in the same vein as The Snowman. No one is watching for the plot - the point is the animation and the message/sentiment.

heartbeatt · 25/12/2022 22:55

Wtf Xmas Confused

wesayno · 25/12/2022 22:56

In that there's a boy in both?

Mummadeze · 25/12/2022 22:57

I didn’t get that from it?

Autumnnewname · 25/12/2022 22:58

Some posters avoid Telly Addicts if they're catching up on viewing

Nice to have this in Aibu with a dirty great spoiler in the title

MrsElm · 25/12/2022 22:58

@dieselKiller I think that you have had enough sherry now. Cup of tea, off to bed, it will all be better in the morning 🤗

shivermetimbers77 · 25/12/2022 23:01

Eh,what? I’ve watched it twice and didn’t get that from it at all.. it’s just about life lessons and the importance of friendship. No dead people or seeing of dead people anywhere.

pizzazze · 25/12/2022 23:02

I found it quite creepy tbh.

The dialogue mostly smacks of adults trying to ram saccharine morals down kids throats, and yeah there's a weird vibe of the boy being dead to it. (Why does he never get cold? Why can't he go home?). Illustrations were lovely. The rest of it was not for me.

homeishere · 25/12/2022 23:16

Boring. And a bit of a rip off of the Gruffalo.

Spoiler crew - get a life. Book’s been out for ages. It was screened yesterday. Shit or get off the pot.

HotDogJumpingFrogAlbuquerque · 25/12/2022 23:18

Watched it today and our 16 yr old commented it’s just a posh rip off of Ice Age ..

DrManhattan · 25/12/2022 23:19

Does someone get shot in the opening scene?

Oysterbabe · 25/12/2022 23:19

I watched it with my 5 and 6 Yr old. They couldn't believe I made them sit through it. Shite.

Fathercrossmas · 25/12/2022 23:22

My DC refused to watch it after 5 mins. Loved the smeds and smoos though.

karmalama · 25/12/2022 23:24

Might have made more sense if they were all dead to be honest.
Felt like they had put a load of hallmark cards in a hat, then pulled them out at random and strung them together for the plot.
Very pretty though

Nail on head! I wanted to enjoy this because Ideis Elba did a voice although the memes I have seen, not having read the book, have always sounded a bit cringe, over-simplistic self-help style affirmation anyway. Didn't like it - lost me at 'what do you want to be when you grow up?' 'Kind'. DCs loved the mole though.

OP I like it better for your M Night Shyamalan twist, to be honest! At least wouldn't have been thinking 'why aren't you bloody cold, kid' the whole time.

I think that takes the premise much deeper than it is!

Shakeyshakeyshake · 25/12/2022 23:25

I don’t get the hype over the book anyway - for a children’s book for one it was hard to read the writing and yep it was meh

Give me going on a bear hunt anyday or the Gruffalo

Reindeersnooker · 25/12/2022 23:27

Interesting reading of it. Very clever.

Impressive visuals worth it for that alone. But yes, a better artist than writer. However I'm glad he took the trouble. There's a lot of crap out there and this isn't it.

Wrongsideofpennines · 25/12/2022 23:32

I didn't get that from it at all.

I think it lacked any real sort of plot, as does the book. And I think they've aimed it at children, having it in that Christmas eve afternoon slot but the book isn't aimed at children at all.

Pudmyboy · 25/12/2022 23:32

Beautifully drawn and animated but saccharine sentiments, won't be watching again. Cannot see any connection to 6th sense, don't remember that being so saccharine!

iliketartan · 25/12/2022 23:38

Just seeing the trailers I thought it looked like a pile of shite. Glad I didn't bother watching or recording it.

WolverineBlueyy · 25/12/2022 23:39

Oh it's gorgeous Reindeer, really hoped it might be a Snowman-type winter classic. Noticed a lot of entertainment bigwigs attached to the credits. But the dialogue seemed to be nothing more than drilling in random affirmations with little to no context.

I see how that might be useful to some people, in fact it would be great if it is, especially at this time of year. Really though it's just not fully-fleshed enough.
