The shit Christmas presents of 22 thread.

Another year, another round of presents from family that I cannot use. I have a serious food allergy and another health condition that means that I can't eat or use some foods/cosmetics. These are not new health issues, had them since childhood, yet there is not a single gift out of the few that I received that I can make use of. I decided to be blunt this year (after years of unsuaitable gifts) and tell the givers that I can't use their gifts due allergy etc but thanks anyway. Now I'm an ungracious brat. Am I? "It's not their fault I'm fussy." I'm really not, I just don't want to get sick. I would prefer not to do the gift thing as I'm not overly bothered about that part of Christmas, but I would be ruining it for everyone else, everyone else who gets decent thoughtful presents based on knowing what they like, it's shit when those thoughts are not reciprocated.

Anyone else want to join the naff presents club.

Second hand trainers shitty trainers and Rylans autobiography, I’m sure he’s lovely (Rylan) but not my cuppa..

ThomasHardyPerennial · 25/12/2022 17:16

I got a pack of paper napkins from my SIL. She also gave me a pack for my birthday last month - lucky me I guess 😂

StrawberryWater · 25/12/2022 17:17

I know how you feel.

I got given a fancy spice set for cooking with. I don’t eat spice because of a bowel disorder. They know I can’t eat spice. They’ve known me all my life, I’ve had the bowel disorder since I was 10.

Apparently I’m just ‘ungrateful’ and ‘fussy’.

Ok Joan, you can clean the toilet after it shoots out of me then and when you’re done you can call for a dr when I start screaming in pain.

BloomingXmas · 25/12/2022 17:17

Unfortunately, Christmas has turned into a mindless, thoughtless, gift giving exercise for some.
I have told everyone not to give me anything this year, as I’m sick of soap/hand cream/general generic rubbish.
I don’t blame you for voicing your thoughts (I’m sure it came across as you being an ungrateful grinch).

btw this year I have minimal gifts, but what I have received are from my closest friends and are personal and thoughtful. I am not missing the rest

WildOats5678 · 25/12/2022 17:17

I got absolutely zero presents so sat with a bottle of champagne in bed instead.

BloomingXmas · 25/12/2022 17:19

@WildOats5678 sounds like a perfect Christmas. Have you got a good book or movie to enjoy with your champers?

Rumplestrumpet · 25/12/2022 17:19

I got only one gift, from our family secret Santa. I love it. I'm so glad I'm not getting piles of crap. Also haven't gifted loads of crap either!

NoMoreShit · 25/12/2022 17:19

Tell them. I find obvious lack of thought or care hurtful, so I'd rather get nothing.

I got bath bombs. I hate them. Does anybody actually like them? It wouldn't piss me off so much but I'm SO easy to buy for - If it's got a cat or butterfly on it, I love it.

janeeyreair · 25/12/2022 17:21

@ChristmasPresentsof22 that is so shit, are they presents from close family?

UsernameOfMine · 25/12/2022 17:21

My DD (11yr old) was given what appears to be a dog squeaky toy.... 🤔

redredwineub40 · 25/12/2022 17:21

Find a kid under age 7 for bath bombs. They'll be v pleased!

I’m currently watching all the Harry Potter movies as it’s easy watching and I love them 😂 hope you’ve had a nice Christmas!

janeeyreair · 25/12/2022 17:22

@Tiredo who the fuck got you second hand trainers?? That is so horrible and embarrassing for them. Unless they were rare vintage collectible and you had asked for them.

TheKeatingFive · 25/12/2022 17:23

I love bath bombs 😆

I have a small collection of scented candles, which I hate. I'll seek out alternative homes for them though.

redredwineub40 · 25/12/2022 17:24

If only it was easier to swap things - my 8 yo dd has better a travel sized Baylis and Harding body wash from her Nan - just bizarre!

janeeyreair · 25/12/2022 17:25

Crikey these presents are awful, my worst one was a Hotel Chocolat gift box, which I will re gift to a friend when she comes to stay for New Year. I obviously tell her!

PissedAgain · 25/12/2022 17:25

My girls love bath bombs. It's the only thing that gets them in a bath 🤣

I did quite well really. DP did buy me a record by a band I used to like as a teenager. 🤔. Although I already have this record 🤷🏼‍♀️. I also smashed a lovely very favourite mug this year and cannot find a replacement. I received a few this year by well wishers trying to replace but it doesn't cut it. One was smashed when I opened it anyway. 🤣

Warspite · 25/12/2022 17:26

My family totally gave up gift giving 3 years ago. We don’t miss it and are so thankful we don’t have the stresses of finding the perfect gift anymore. More families should try it.
It’s such a relief.

You've summed it up. It is the lack of care that bugs me the most. I would rather they saved their money instead of insisting on buying things they know would make me ill. Hey ho, I'm going to insist on not taking part in the gigting next year. It probably won't go down well.

Limoncello - 7 months pregnant and I don't drink spirits.

ChristmasPresentsof22 · 25/12/2022 17:26

I would feel really hurt if my family gifted me things I was unable to use due to an allergy they knew about. I don't think it makes you ungrateful at all, it's lazy on their part!!

Shellshocked80 · 25/12/2022 17:27

I got a dvd from my boyfriend. I’ve already watched it with him before, I don’t have a DVD player which he knows and the subject of the dvd is incredibly insulting and tactless after the year I’ve had and he knows this. It’s so bad that he’s getting dumped as soon as the festivities are over, I wasn’t 100% sure about the relationship but this has just gave me the ick and I’ll never come back from it.

JanesSadLittleLife · 25/12/2022 17:28

I haven't drunk alcohol for 25 years, but I still received 3 bottles of wine, some pink champagne and a bottle of...Chocolate Cream Vodka?

Luckily DH is a total lush.

Glenthebattleostrich · 25/12/2022 17:29

A diary I won't use as I no longer need one. Used to be self employed and used a diary to keep track of attendance and expenses but closed my business so it's useless. A parker pen with my name engraved which sounds nice except I have 3 lovely pens which I enjoy and I've always hated the scratchyness of parker pens. Raspberry favoured white chocolate bars - just vile.
