The shit Christmas presents of 22 thread.

Another year, another round of presents from family that I cannot use. I have a serious food allergy and another health condition that means that I can't eat or use some foods/cosmetics. These are not new health issues, had them since childhood, yet there is not a single gift out of the few that I received that I can make use of. I decided to be blunt this year (after years of unsuaitable gifts) and tell the givers that I can't use their gifts due allergy etc but thanks anyway. Now I'm an ungracious brat. Am I? "It's not their fault I'm fussy." I'm really not, I just don't want to get sick. I would prefer not to do the gift thing as I'm not overly bothered about that part of Christmas, but I would be ruining it for everyone else, everyone else who gets decent thoughtful presents based on knowing what they like, it's shit when those thoughts are not reciprocated.

Anyone else want to join the naff presents club.

@Tiredo who the fuck got you second hand trainers?? That is so horrible and embarrassing for them. Unless they were rare vintage collectible and you had asked for them.

@janeeyreair my (not so) DH 😔 they’re awful with dirt on them too! Even if they was new they’d only be about £20/£30!

janeeyreair · 25/12/2022 17:25

Crikey these presents are awful, my worst one was a Hotel Chocolat gift box, which I will re gift to a friend when she comes to stay for New Year. I obviously tell her!

Whats wrong with Hotel Chocolat?

janeeyreair · 25/12/2022 17:33

@ChristmasPresentsof22 At least you still have a sense of humour about it! But that is actually seriously thoughtless.

janeeyreair · 25/12/2022 17:34

@Tiredo Totally weird! What were peoples reactions when you unwrapped Them? Where did he buy them from? Sorry , so many questions.....

janeeyreair · 25/12/2022 17:36

@Thedaysthatremain Nothing's wrong with Hotel Chocolat, sorry that sounded really ungrateful! I just meant from my Personal point of view, Im not really a Chocolate fan and they were very distinctive Christmas flavours.

Tiredo · 25/12/2022 17:36

@janeeyreair vinted 😞 it was only me and him, dc were playing with their presents. I had a little cry while I chopped the veg 😆

janeeyreair · 25/12/2022 17:39

@Tiredo ohh bless you! Maybe you mentioned trainers in passing and your (D)H grabbed onto that thought??

Piplette · 25/12/2022 17:39

I for the usual cheap primark pjs in a size too small from my mum - I've given up even mentioning the size issue after several years - last year she and her partner got me slippers 2 sizes too small and when I mentioned it I was told "I'm sure they'll stretch".

They and my brother and SIL also went down the usual route of buying my kids lots of cheap tat presents rather than just 1 nice thing/vouchers as requested - including things that are too old for the or that they know I don't want in the house ie slime.

Will be gifting them to the charity shop in the new year.

hattie43 · 25/12/2022 17:41

I have been given the Swarovski annual ornament ball for the last few years and they are beautiful. This year I get a bell . It's horrible and not my style at all . I know I'm sounding ungrateful but why by a bloomin bell when I've been collecting the baubles . Better to have bought nothing .

Tiredo · 25/12/2022 17:41

@janeeyreair i definitely havnt mentioned them, he’s just a lazy gift buyer unfortunately

riotlady · 25/12/2022 17:42

My Granny, who is normally quite a decent gift giver, gave my husband and I the joint present of an iron. Not sure if it is a comment on my housekeeping skills?!

OhTinyBear · 25/12/2022 17:44

Polyester furry pyjamas. Two pairs. From my mother. Who knows full well that I’m massively perimenopausal (and don’t expect full-on menopause to be far off l, given that she got it early too) and already getting major night sweats. I can’t even wear thin polyester satin pyjamas because of the sweating, never mind thick furry ones. And I have plenty of cotton PJs already, no need for additional nightwear whatsoever.

Oh, and they’re two sizes too big as well! Cheers Mum. Nice one.

There are plenty of things I actually need or want at the moment, but if she was going to spend money on something without bothering to check with me if there was anything I’d like, I would rather she had donated the money to charity. Spending it on something so bloody incorrect is just a complete waste.

Now I have to work out whether it’s worth asking her if she kept the receipts, or if I should just quietly take the damn things to a charity shop next week.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 25/12/2022 17:49

A body stocking..............I dont even like to undress with the lights on.

iklboo · 25/12/2022 17:52

£2.99 toiletry set from FIL & his wife. He was boasting last week about his new bank account you have to have a minimum of £50k to open. Worse, he spent the same on DS. Tight git.

purplethings · 25/12/2022 17:53

I've had my eye on buying myself a cast iron kettle to last a lifetime. I've been looking for ages for one that could go from the induction cooker to the burner and I was in love with a le creuset one. I was going to wait till the after Xmas sales. For xmas Dh got me an aluminium kettle which holds about 10 litres, with paper thin metal and a handle that looks like it's paper clipped together and is going to break any minute and pour scalding water over whoever's unlucky enough to be using. Now if I buy myself the kettle I want I'll look ungrateful.

KRoo22 · 25/12/2022 17:58

My Dad has got me and my husband a £100 voucher for a meal for two at a steakhouse…… I have been vegetarian for the last 23 years!

Lightuptheroom · 25/12/2022 18:00

My ex mil used to do the allergy thing every year, serving up walnut bread and then sighing painfully as she 'remembered' that I was apparently allergic to walnuts (the apparently because she'd never seen me be allergic to them!!!)
Usual problem with smelly stuff that always seems to be made with almond milk, which I can't touch...
DH did come up with something I really wanted so not too bad x

Tell them. I find obvious lack of thought or care hurtful, so I'd rather get nothing.

I got bath bombs. I hate them. Does anybody actually like them? It wouldn't piss me off so much but I'm SO easy to buy for - If it's got a cat or butterfly on it, I love it.

I got 3 🤣🤣🤣. The ones I have from last year are in the bathroom- unused. Where do I get time for a luxury bath? But I'm going to try and make sure I use them all before next Christmas.

Use them all at the same time for extra boom!

I've already given an oodie I was given to my sister. I wouldn't have thought it was a thortless gift had this person not tried to gift me one 4 months ago and I told them then that I don't like them, find them very uncomfortable, they don't keep my legs warm, I prefer dressing gowns.

NancyDrawed · 25/12/2022 18:06

Absolutely nothing from H (I won't add the 'D')

This isn't the first time, birthdays too.

It hurts that I matter so little, that even a generic gift is too much trouble.

This may well give me the push I need to start seriously looking at leaving (it's been brewing for a couple of years)

Ireolu · 25/12/2022 18:07

Red polyester gloves from amazon off DH. Pure class. TBH wasn't expecting anything but that's a new bar set for a crappy present

LesOliviers · 25/12/2022 18:07

My Auntie bought me some pyjamas in a size small when I'm a medium. My friend bought me a sweatshirt in a size 8 when I could've done with a size 12. I'll be honest, I'm a bit pissed off. I definitely don't look look like small size 8. It's just a waste of money on stuff that will just get donated to the charity shop.
