Hope everyone has a peaceful Christmas and enjoy the time on your own if that's your circumstances. It's difficult...I'm on my own and have been (as in having a close relationship) but listen to thw peeps who have relationships and that isn't perfect either.

Merry Christmas to you too! From the looks of the poll, the usual sensitive lot are about taking umbrage to you daring to speak about a particular family configuration. may they wake up to a sackful of Baylis and Harding.

Haha this made me laugh .

Merry Christmas to those spending it alone . We are all but a stones throw of circumstances where this may be us so treasure those around you.
Happy Christmas 🎅

I'm on my own too. Saw family last week and friends tomorrow. I'm going to go for a walk in a bit and then have lovely food, start the fire and put the Christmas lights on. Wishing us all a peaceful day. xx

BrioNotBiro · 25/12/2022 10:28

Yes, Merry Christmas to fellow on-our-owners, and to all those who wish they were.

I've got an indulgent day of special food, good books and telly, and a crafty hobby. I am keeping quietish as I don't want my lovely next door neighbours to realise I'm here and well-meaningly invite me to their Christmas lunch!

Dreamingofsheep · 25/12/2022 10:46

Mery Christmas to you all. I'm another alone Christmaser and it's up and down for me. I had a few invitations to join friends for today but if I can't be with my own family (adult DCs with their dad today) I don't really want to be with someone else's, no matter how kind and welcoming.

I'm having a nice day so far, lovely breakfast and a pile of books to work through. Looking forward to not having to cook a big dinner and the calm atmosphere after many years of tense and fraught Christmases with my ex feels great.

This!

I mentioned to one set of neighbours a few weeks ago that it was just me and the dog, they said they would have invited me around but are off out themelves.
The other side are at home with lots of people for lunch (they told me about trying to arrange seating for lunch) but I didn't mention being on my own to them as I am certain an invite would follow.

Don't mind being alone this weekend, am seeing family later in the week.🥳

BlackeyedSusan · 25/12/2022 10:58

Merry Christmas.

It's a good reminder @Gruffalo101 that most people are not having an as portrayed in movies/adverts Christmas.

Flowers to those who are bereaved, missing a significant person or just because.

@Dreamingofsheep really hope you enjoy those books. What did you have for breakfast?

Dreamingofsheep · 25/12/2022 11:09

@BlackeyedSusan I had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and some lovely crusty bread. Delicious.

@Dougieowner I stopped telling people I was on my own too, I had choices about how to spend today but the look of pity on their faces and having to explain that I wanted to be alone was too draining.

I'm thinking of watching a film later, any recommendations from anyone?

I've got Netflix, Prime and Now TV so too much choice 😊

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 25/12/2022 11:13

Presents opened, canapes warming (prawn gyozu), drink poured and settling in for a nice relaxed day.

Double Marilyn Monroe bill on BBC2 after the (nearly typed queen's) king's speech.

Am with DP now but heading home for an afternoon/ evening of sofa time. Can't wait. Kids are with me alternate years so I choose to enjoy the upsides that each year brings. I'm heartened that so many on here now can see being alone as a perfectly happy, normal thing, not to be pitied or ashamed of or sad about.

ForfuckssakeEXHstopbeingatwat · 25/12/2022 11:17

Not at all Christmassy but I watched 'luckiest girl alive' yesterday on Netflix which was excellent

WildRosie · 25/12/2022 11:27

I'm by myself today but I am every Christmas. FWIW my Christmas is very low key and contained between the Christmas Eve Carol service on Radio 4 and coming home from the pub at about 8pm. So for me it's largely over! Not ideal and wouldn't suit everyone but it's the best I can manage.

Have a lovely day, whatever and wherever, and a peaceful New Year.

BibiBlocksberg · 25/12/2022 12:30

My people :) Favourite day of the year, no pressure to go anywhere, nice nibbles, fizz, christmas films all topped off with 2 snuggly cats competing for the non moving lap, perfect!

Someone on another thread summed it up perfectly for me the other day when it comes to errrm, empathetic xmas day invites from others ‘sitting in someone else’s cold house, on uncomfortable furniture having to behave yourself all day’ - No thanks :) :)

Merry Christmas to all 🥂 🤶 🌲

I'm on my own as the kids are with their dads and my ex In Laws and I'm finding it tough as I always do. BlushFlowersFlowersfor everyone else x

atomsgirl · 25/12/2022 12:43

Merry Christmas everyone!

Im on my own. It's been this way for a good few years now.

I also try not to tell people I am on my own as many seem to (incorrectly) think it must be awful. But I'm actually quite happy with it.

I've already had my Christmas dinner (pizza), and started on some chocs, watching TV and surfing the net/doing online shopping. It's been a lovely relaxing day so far.

lobsterkiller · 25/12/2022 12:46

Ive had my lunch too, a mumsnet massive salad and It was delicious too.

I've had lovely gifts from family and friends. I've got the log burner on and watching Harry Potter.

Also been shopping the sales.

logicisall · 25/12/2022 13:03

I'm recovering from a bout of cold/flu, so still tired and in bed with my fav floof at my shoulder for company. M&S coquille st jacques, with a caesar salad and bubbly for lunch later.
S**t, just remembered I have presents to open!
I'm enjoying being on my own with Netflix too much. (The Witcher and Glass Onion)
Merry Christmas everyone!💝

So sorry you are finding it tough. I hope you find something lovely to watch/do to get you through. When are they coming back?
