Should I sped the 2k£ to fly for Xmas

LaVieestBelleNestCePas · 23/12/2022 23:02

I feel like I’m mad… maybe it’s Xmas 🎄 ? Don’t get on with mum but she’s 80 now and no not frail… more a firecracker. My youngest has flown over ( yes I paid for him to go) and there for a month. I’m relishing my time alone in my home as youngest has been here since July and is sorting himself out with school and work etc.
so this evening I was looking to see fares and thinking well I could… mainly cos I can and. Two day turn around I could handle, but bug stir’s in North America so nothing is guaranteed. Fares are understandably expensive and yes I’ve paid for the youngest to goans have Xmas with his gran. AIBU? It’s just me and I have his uni fees in September so trying to weigh up the most sensible options

I have no idea what you’re on about

LaVieestBelleNestCePas · 23/12/2022 23:03

Sorry big storm not bug stirs!?!?!

If you're relishing your tie alone like you say - why are you even considering it?

Woopzies · 23/12/2022 23:04

time*

Keyansier · 23/12/2022 23:05

Your youngest son has flew over to your country and you are considering flying to another country whilst he's in yours? Don't you want to see him? (I don't know if I understood your post properly).

Stompythedinosaur · 23/12/2022 23:05

I wouldn't spent that amount to fly over for a couple of days personally, but maybe you are wealthy enough that 2k isn't a significant amount?

AkoraEdelherb · 23/12/2022 23:05

Will you notice if the cash is gone? I’m used to travel and short turnarounds and I enjoy it too, so if money was no issue whatsoever I’d do it. But if it’s not sensible and you’d much rather enjoy a quiet couple of days at home, don’t. Plus, the storms as you said. I probably wouldn’t risk it unless I didn’t mind getting stuck in airport hotels with no compensation as, weather.

SaveMeCheezus · 23/12/2022 23:08

Have you been at the Baileys OP? Your post doesn't make a lot of sense, but from what I can grasp you're thinking of flying to your Mum and youngest for Christmas for 2 days at £2k?

Well if you've got the money to spare, and you think you'd regret not going, then why not 🤷🏼‍♀️

LaVieestBelleNestCePas · 23/12/2022 23:09

Apologies for the lack of clarity.. youngest has returned so is there with grandparents. Yes I am relishing my time alone but I have the month alone and two days won’t detract from that. It’s the other nieces and nephews etc that I was thinking about. Still haven’t booked and thought to post as Mumsnetters are always sensible and offer for the most part good advice.

Womencanlift · 23/12/2022 23:11

Why have you sent your son to go and visit your “firecracker” (I am assuming that is not a compliment) mother. Did he want to go?

And are you now asking in the 23rd December if you should fly there for Christmas at a cost of £2k

“There”
where’s there?

LaVieestBelleNestCePas · 23/12/2022 23:13

@SaveMeCheezus Baileys was yesterday evening 😂. But I hear you. And yes not so much to spare but rather thinking do I book or not… mum descended October but was without drama so ok… as stated prior more about the nieces and nephews really.

mrsmarmalade12 · 23/12/2022 23:13

I don't understand... are you going to see them or to get away with them? How would you get somewhere before Christmas now anyway?

LaVieestBelleNestCePas · 23/12/2022 23:13

@Frazzled2207 East coast of North America

Frazzled2207 · 23/12/2022 23:16

You’re making little sense

ok so do you spend £2k to go to the USA. Presumably leaving tomorrow?
whats the deal with the nieces and nephews?

i mean if you can afford it why not but I wouldn’t for two days. I might go for a week though is that not an option?

if you are thinking of going tomorrow bear
in mind you probably need an EStA and they can take a day or two.

LaVieestBelleNestCePas · 23/12/2022 23:18

@Womencanlift yes he went willingly as was his wish -he’s a young adult. And yes asking for views. I can go later next year but thinking I could now-like tomorrow and return Monday. Short hop but well thinking I can…

I'm in middle of spending ... about £3.5k on flights (per person). It's insane.
I wondered if OP is drunk.

limitededitionbarbie · 23/12/2022 23:18

Why only go for two day?

user1471521072 · 23/12/2022 23:19

Do not try to fly over to New York, Boston, washington, etc., tomorrow! There is a huge storm over the eastern half of the U.S.

High winds, bitter cold, snow accumulation.
It's all creating a nightmare for air travel. It will probably create problems for international arrivals as well.

I live about 300 miles northwest of New York City and right now the temperature is 5 degrees Fahrenheit. With the 50-miles-per-hour winds the temperature feels like minus-19 degrees Fahrenheit. Convert Fahrenheit to Celsius and you'll realise how cold it is.

Flights are being cancelled all over the eastern U.S.

poefaced · 23/12/2022 23:21

This is crazy. Your journey will be miserable, there are border control strikes and it’s Xmas Eve tomorrow.

Go lie down down and watch TV.

LaVieestBelleNestCePas · 23/12/2022 23:21

@Frazzled2207 thats a sensible suggestion a week or do.. but can’t as have other engagements after Xmas. Thinking maybe not such a good idea to do such a short hop… especially with the storm on east coast.

OP posts:
LaVieestBelleNestCePas · 23/12/2022 23:23

@poefaced forgot about the border control … indeed that would be hellish!!

OP posts:
LaVieestBelleNestCePas · 23/12/2022 23:24

@user1471521072 thank you! Actually was Toronto not NYC but same same from here I guess with storm?

OP posts:
endlesswinter · 23/12/2022 23:25

OP, if the east coast is anything like the Midwest currently you do not want to travel anywhere.
In addition Border Patrol are striking in the UK.

Enjoy your peace.
