Is is reasonable to expect that late at night you would try to do it discretely so not to wake/disturb people?

DP says it is allergies though I do feel there is no attempt to minimise

Omg my dh can't do anything quietly. Two weeks of loud coughing, blowing nose, and general sound effects next to me in bed has left me ready to put a pillow over his face.

DominoBlue · 23/12/2022 07:29

I hate it when men blow their nose really loudly. It's scary and intimidating. It screams "look at me!". Just why?

RambamThankyouMam · 23/12/2022 07:34

My husband blows his nose so loudly I could once hear him through about four thick brick walls in a Victorian railway station toilet.

I don't understand why the honking is necessary.

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/12/2022 07:34

My DH does it too. It really makes me jump i once dropped snd broke a glass when it took me by surprise. I don't think he knows how to do it quietly.

MelchiorsMistress · 23/12/2022 07:34

With nose blowing you have a point because it’s possible to get up and take yourself into a different room before blowing, but the same can’t be said for sneezing! I’m one of those people that has a loud sneeze. I don’t like it, it’s embarrassing when I have a fit if sneezes thanks to hayfever, but I genuinely can’t make it much quieter. When I try and minimise it it’s not as loud but nor is it quiet. It comes out as a different strange noise instead. So I think YABU.

Ansumpasty · 23/12/2022 07:36

mine hiccups excessively loud. He hates having them, so feels the need to exaggerate the sound to let everyone around him know he has them, and how unfortunate he is 😐

ClarathecrosseyedLioness · 23/12/2022 07:37

This is why we went for not only separate beds but separate bedrooms.

When DH blows his nose it sounds like the Elephant Dawn Patrol,

TinyBagEnergy · 23/12/2022 07:39

My Ex would sneeze so loudly that I think my cat now has PTSD...it'd scare the sh*t outta the wee furball 😕

Are we all married to the same man?

My DP does exactly the same. Last night he was holding our 4 month old baby who was asleep and sneezed so loudly he woke her up. He also sneezes loudly in the night and will disturb her - no attempts to be quiet at all!

Exhausteddog · 23/12/2022 07:50

My Dh sneezes frequently and very loudly, it makes me jump, but I didn't know it was possible to adjust the volume of a sneeze... ? (He's pretty quiet generally)

scattercushion · 23/12/2022 07:50

What about making a roaring noise when yawning? Mine does this. Surely yawning is barely audible?

I can’t abide men (and it is always men) who blow their noses like a trumpet. such attention seeking, irritating behaviour. Ditto loud sneezing.

Nose blowing should be done in private.

LizzieSiddal · 23/12/2022 08:33

I always move to the spare room when dh has a cough/cold. Problem solved.

Mine does all that, as well as slurping his tea, chomping his food, snoring like a bull elephant seal, farting, and generally making as much noise as he can.

Married 43 years 😯

curlywurly10 · 23/12/2022 08:36

DP also does this, it's damn frustrating!!! He makes this AWFUL and unnecessary noise with his throat when he's got a cold, he knows it annoys me yet he does it so loud when i'm sleeping too!!! doesn't even try doing anything quiet, soo stressful.

butterfly888 · 23/12/2022 08:38

Sounds like something bigger is getting to you & this is just something else that's annoying you

Yes!! Performative yawning drives me batshit especially on days when he hasn't had to get up with our toddler and got to stay in bed until 9am.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 23/12/2022 08:40

It's not just men who sneeze loudly. I have an incredibly loud sneeze, it's as though my voicebox engages to amplify the sound. Because sneezes come on suddenly, there's no time to react and 'force' the sneeze more quietly. Sorry, but that's just the way I sneeze.

Strugglingtodomybest · 23/12/2022 08:41

I thought it was just me! My DH's sneezes are so loud, they make me jump out of my skin. I hate it, they're so .... performative?

MissCrowley · 23/12/2022 08:41

I'm the DW and I do this.
I try not to blow my nose loudly but it always sounds like I'm playing a trumpet. I also sneeze really loud and if I try to do it quietly I end up hurting my stomach muscles!
If I'm having a sneezing fit I will take myself off downstairs though (at night) as I'd probably wake everyone up.

midgetastic · 23/12/2022 08:44

Scientists can identify people who will find it impossible to sneeze quietly - something about the shape of your insides

Can't remember exactly but something like half the population are physically unable to sneeze quietly
