It's because they want to make offensive comments?

What's the problem with wanting to spare people's feelings?

OP posts:
whattodo1975 · 20/12/2022 10:41

I think sparing feelings is fine.

Its when it goes over the top and peoples feelings are hurt by anything and everything that people get a bit fed up of.

PurpleButterflyWings · 20/12/2022 10:43

The 'WOKE' and the PC don't give a shiny shit about 'sparing peoples feelings,' or 'bekind' when they are screeching BIGOT, GAMMON, RACIST, BOOMER, and 'you sound fucking thick' and 'you're an uneducated pleb' at people who DARE to have an opinion or a view that doesn't buy into the liberal left/woke agenda.

And the viperous far left/wokies are FAR more vitriolic than ANYone who is right, right of centre, or centric.

7Worfs · 20/12/2022 10:43

Where do you draw the line on hurting feelings?
Men in women’s toilets, hospital wards, prisons?
The Be Kind thing has got out of hand and is used to keep women in line.

newnamethanks · 20/12/2022 10:45

Excellent OP, a pointless shouty thread and just before Christmas too. Jingle bells to you.

Flaunch · 20/12/2022 10:45

What you think is offensive might not be for me. If a person whose feelings I hurt, are hurt because they’ve been sold a lie by others then why would that be my fault?

Mumuser124 · 20/12/2022 10:46

It’s because ‘woke’ people tend to be intolerant to other peoples views/opinions. They think they are the kind ones but they are repressive in my opinion.

OlympicProcrastinator · 20/12/2022 10:46

What's the problem with wanting to spare people's feelings

Because living in a world where we feel we have a right not to be offended is a dangerous road to loss of freedom of speech.

Because the people spouting it are largely happy to scream BIGOT and issue death threats to anyone that doesn’t toe the line THEY decide.

ALL OF THIS.

Can't hurt the men's feelings, so women should just BE KIND or they're TERFs.

Beamur · 20/12/2022 10:49

People are entitled to different opinions.
Name calling is just a tactic to undermine someone else's views.

lawandgin · 20/12/2022 10:50

IME the term woke is used by white, middle aged men who usually want to excuse their racist/sexist/ableist views.

I can't stand the term and put it up there with "karen". I judge anyone who uses either harshly.

RudsyFarmer · 20/12/2022 10:50

I think it just indicates we’re too old for this bullshit anymore.

I have no interest in offending anyone and am very happy that people are no longer allowed to be overtly offensive anymore and think it’s acceptable. The bit that pisses me off is the Twitterati falling over themselves to police people acting in good faith. And my concern is the more you whip the good faith people for using the wrong pronoun or the wrong newly adopted acronym the more actual bad faith you whip up and we move backwards as a society.

Xiaoxiong · 20/12/2022 10:51

I think people get fed up when it starts to get over the top, then contradictory, then people feel like they can never get it right, they stop trying and eventually they stop caring.

Purity spirals never end well.

I think, like with all traits, extremes are bad but there is a happy medium.

I'm quite glad that I can walk down the street without people shouting racist abuse at me from cars . Wasn't always true when I was a child. Does that make me woke?

But by you just saying that I immediately assume you are also a bit thick. Nothing good comes of it.

These are statements that used to quietly live in our heads but are now publicly pounded out by keyboard warriors. Then we have threads of women fighting on buses over pushchairs and we scratch our heads wondering what happened to common decency. It disappeared once it was standard practice to call people cunts online.

The OP is right and you're right too. I wonder where does that leave us? Perhaps everyone should stop hurling buzzwords at each other and state their grievances in a way that can be easily understood by all.

The irony of making racist, ageist and sexist generalisations…whilst decrying people with sexist, racist views.

The OP doesn't sound shouty to me. Why is this topic off-limits just before Christmas? I'm sure other people are happy to engage if you aren't.

Is it racist or ageist to say that in my personal experience (and I have 2 specific people in mind, including 1 close family member) these particular people use the term woke but also very often make racist, sexist and ableist jokes? I don't think so. They are white, middle aged men. That is a fact.

Why say only 'white, middle aged men' when loads of women (I assume white too) use it? It's all over Mumsnet.

I agree with the overuse of the word 'Karen'.

Ramble0n · 20/12/2022 11:02

Poor snowflake PurpleButterFlyWings had me deleted. Bless her hurtie feelings.

Ramble0n · 20/12/2022 11:03

Most people who use the word 'woke' as an insult are racist bigots.

I was referring only to my personal experience, with 2 specific people in mind who both happen to be male. Personally I haven't encountered any women using the word woke that I can think of, although it must have cropped up on here. Thinking about it, I have seen Karen used here, you are right about that.

Snowflake is another one 🤮
