Why the fuck is my DP taking SO long with this job?!

whatthefuckityfuckfuck · 10/12/2022 10:43

Just need to vent. DP does this often. He's a "faffer". Jobs that would me 10 mins, take him 20 or 30... and so on.

He has nipped to the butchers (2 miles away - 5 min drive tops), and is also going to the co op right next door to the butchers for a few veg items (literally carrots, potatoes and peas).

So far he has been gone almost 50 minutes. I mean..... really?! Am I being unreasonable/ inpatient?! Or is this just ridiculous? 🤷‍♀️

Typical

catsnore · 10/12/2022 10:46

He's reading the magazines, mooching through the alcohol, having a chat with the staff 😂

Branleuse · 10/12/2022 10:46

Maybe hes browsing? Does he know you are in a rush? Maybe its busy since its saturday morning. Maybe hes bumped into a friend.

Clutterbugsmum · 10/12/2022 10:47

To make you do it for him, as will get fed with him and do it yourself.

Try to ignore him and just get on with what you doing.

TrianglePlayer · 10/12/2022 10:47

It’s really busy in all the shops…

DiamondShape · 10/12/2022 10:47

So 20 mins in each shop, a couple of weeks before Christmas. The butcher will have a queue, he might have met someone to chat to, he might be doing a good deed or have had an accident!

Why does it matter so much?

Dotcheck · 10/12/2022 10:48

It’s Saturday morning in December- 2 weeks before Christmas. Perhaps parking is tight and there are queues.

determinedtomakethiswork · 10/12/2022 10:49

I'd really struggle to live with someone like you! Why are you timing him?

healthadvice123 · 10/12/2022 10:49

Does it actually matter ? Maybe he has bumped into someone and having a chat
I would hate if my dh timed me when I was out

whatthefuckityfuckfuck · 10/12/2022 10:50

Wow. It was a lighthearted vent. Some of these replies 🤣

He's just called and said he queued for 20 mins in the co op and the butchers was a nightmare too. So there's my answer. He's on his way now.

No I don't usually "time" him ... 🤣🤣

But we do have somewhere to be soon yes, hence my worry that we might be late!

alasangne · 10/12/2022 10:50

Do you think he does it deliberately to avoid the family?

Sprouttreesareamazing · 10/12/2022 10:52

Because you never appreciate his efforts to do These Important Jobs.....
😆He needs to make sure you know he totally accomplished his mission
.. Hours and hours he will be yet.
Harvesting those veggies and slaughtering that meat...

whatthefuckityfuckfuck · 10/12/2022 10:53

@Sprouttreesareamazing

😂😂😂 that made me laugh out loud

SnarkyBag · 10/12/2022 10:55

If he’s like me he’s sat in the car eating a twirl and browsing the web.

whatthefuckityfuckfuck · 10/12/2022 10:57

The wanderer has returned! Looking a tad stressed I might add. By all accounts it was carnage out there🙈

Ugh my DH is a faffer too. He was literally late to his own grandmothers funeral because he was faffing in the car Blush

Lindy2 · 10/12/2022 11:02

If it's the butchers near me, which is next to a CoOp, he'll be queueing.

There will be a lot of people sorting out their Christmas orders.

cleanfreak12345 · 10/12/2022 11:11

Can't you entertain yourself whilst he's out?

whatthefuckityfuckfuck · 10/12/2022 11:14

cleanfreak12345 · 10/12/2022 11:11

😂 No. I rely wholly on his presence to feel whole and fulfilled.

It's less an issue of entertainment and more the issue of we need to be somewhere so I needed him to hurry up! Given he has form for faffing, I assumed he would be doing faffy things. Alas, I was a little unfair to him... this time it was genuine!

My dad is usually really efficient with stuff
He went to Morrisons to get my prescription for me and I was a bit worried when he wasn't here an hour later
Got a phone call "you didn't tell me there was a giant b&m here now! It's huge!"
2hrs later... Grin he appeared having also got KFC "I haven't had this in a decade!"

Yes he lives somewhere with no b&m Grin

Livelovebehappy · 10/12/2022 11:24

I’m the opposite. DH goes out to the shop and I hope that he takes his time, as I like a bit of ‘me’ time, and he talks for England, so it’s a bit of a break for me. In fact, he went for his covid booster last week. Should have taken an hour tops. Returned over two hours later, and moaned that I hadn’t checked on him, as he could have been ‘lying in a ditch somewhere’. It turned out he was late as he decided to call off at a diy place on the way home to pick something up for his job….

He’s the boy who cried faff! My DP has ADHD and a task as easy as putting the recycling out can turn into a mammoth mission with side projects and radio silence; it makes it hard to give them the benefit of the doubt at other times. Especially as I know he uses a supermarket top-up trip as a “hide in the park with a bun and a podcast” excuse for some quiet time.

chocolateasaltyballs22 · 10/12/2022 11:34

This is my husband all over. Trip to Tesco Express 2 mins down the road takes 30 minutes minimum. Ask him to chop veg for dinner and I can have it done quicker myself in the time that it takes him to find a knife and chopping board.

Yumyumgin · 10/12/2022 11:36

My DH is a faffer and it drives me insane! His 'it'll only take an hour' means he'll be all afternoon. He also pops out about 3 times, for a simple diy job, to get bits he needs. Why can't he get them all in 1 go???
