To ask how to get normal channels on smart tv?

going round in circles here! I’ve connected my aerial (the one on the roof) to my new smart tv and antenna tuned the channels but the signal must be rubbish!

How on earth do you get normal tv channels like bbc itv etc on your telly? I don’t want to pay for repairs to the antenna on the roof!

Can you watch them through BBC player & ITV hub?
We don’t get a signal in the bedroom so that how we have to watch those channels.

HappyHamsters · 01/12/2022 18:31

When you tuned it in did you choose digital or analogue, is the tv connected to your broadband

FettleOfKish · 01/12/2022 18:31

We don't even have our Smart TV connected to an aerial, we just have all the apps (BBC, ITV, All4, My5, Netflix etc).

It does mean we can't scroll through a full selection of live TV but it does us in lieu of paying to have the external aerial connection fixed.

HappyHamsters · 01/12/2022 18:32

If it turns out to be the aeriel just get the black flat indoor ones, they are much better. What tv is it.

HelpMeCope85 · 01/12/2022 19:58

It’s a new LG OLED fancy schmancy but a right old fiddle about jobby

Try the HD channels for BBC1, 2, ITV, Channel 4 etc. They have a better signal for me than the normal version channels which pixelate frequently.

HelpMeCope85 · 01/12/2022 20:03

How do you get them if the aerial doesn’t work?! I might look at an internal aerial r then?

OP posts:
catandcoffee · 01/12/2022 20:09

You can't get them if you don't have an aerial.
Those indoor aerials don't work where I live, even the ones that plug in to the electric.

We've got some trees that block the signal.

TinySaltLick · 01/12/2022 20:09

Press home and open the various apps - which should be pre installed but if not download via the LG content store - have you connected the TV up to the Internet?

TinySaltLick · 01/12/2022 20:11

You can tune direct via aerial like this (see link) - but this isn't how people generally watch TV any more - do you not have a set top box of some sort?

Analogue TV......... Say hi to trex for me op!

Robyn847 · 01/12/2022 20:28

I'm wondering if you've tuned it to analogue signal (which I don't think even exists anymore!) rather than the digital signal.

When it was tuning and doing the "searching for channels" bit, did it show it had found any? My samsung and sony will show how many its already found before it finished the whole search.

ggbbnn1 · 01/12/2022 20:31

Are you me?! Fancy LG TV the size of my wall and a ridiculous cost, can't watch bloody love island in real time 😭 Following with genuine hope

torquewench · 01/12/2022 20:36

Make sure you've tuned for digital not analogue.
One of our TVs would find any channels so we ended up getting a TV aerial man in. It turns out our tv was searching for the wrong regional transmitter. It was searching for one miles and miles away as opposed to our closest one. He tweaked a few things and it's been perfect since. Cost us £60 but that was a couple of years ago.

You need an indoor aerial. I got one for £10 from Amazon

Our dish connects directly to the LG TV for Freesat - no box required.

PS how?

On ours there’s a port on the back called ‘Satellite IN’, it’s right below the normal aerial one.

Analogue TV no longer exists
The switch over to digital TV channels occurred a few years ago

Try going into settings on your TV
