going round in circles here! I’ve connected my aerial (the one on the roof) to my new smart tv and antenna tuned the channels but the signal must be rubbish!

How on earth do you get normal tv channels like bbc itv etc on your telly? I don’t want to pay for repairs to the antenna on the roof!

I don’t have a smart tv or a sky/virgin package but I do have a Roku stick which is similar to a smart tv. I just watch “normal” tv on the respective channel’s apps so iPlayer, ITV X, 4OD and channel 5 on demand. IPlayer is definitely the best as if let’s you watch from the start. Others let you do that but only with a subscription

Do you have the internet at home (a wifi / wireless box)?
If so, then you'll just need to input the login details for your home internet into your SmartTV, so that it can access your internet. Then you'll be able to watch Freeview channels on your SmartTV without the need for an aerial connection.

That's what make's it smart, it needs to connect to the internet, and then there should be a program/App on the TV pre-installed to start watching Freeview channels.
