I was really disappointed. Last year it had lots of full size stuff and was amazing. I don’t think I will bother next year.

Yes, I have opened every last bit of it already :-D

Bloody hell I thought it was only five year olds that acted like this!

Have you had a tantrum over it?

A grown addict having an advent calendar and opening it in November.

I'm struggling to be empathetic.

AttilaTheUOkHun · 30/11/2022 01:04

Advent calendars are tat. Lesson learned, op.

Sheesh! A bit harsh. OP has paid money for something that they’ve bought in the past, and presumably been happy with. They’ve bought it again and been disappointed. That’s ok, no sign of any tantrum. Lighten up.

I haven’t seen it, OP, but my sister just got it so I’ll ask her! I always stick to the chocolate ones 😂

mowly77 · 30/11/2022 01:07

YABU to open it already!

the joy of it is the surprise everyday surely

erm I opened mine when I was a bit pissed to see if there were any bits a family member would like to add to their birthday present. But I put everything back; or rather crammed it back in the wrong box.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 30/11/2022 01:08

Jeez, DH and I are scrambling to finish last year’s whisky advent calendar before we have to start in on this years. We have a rule if one of us isn’t home on a day the other doesn’t get to open theirs…apparently he worked a lot last December.

I feel like slapping your hand away OP. Very naughty.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 30/11/2022 01:18

Thanks for that op, I was quite looking forward to mine before you pissed on my chips advent calendar

MaryMollyPolly · 30/11/2022 01:48

Well, that’s spoiled it for everyone else who was looking forward to starting to open theirs during December

Wooaahh who pissed on your cornflakes! 😆 It's only about of fun! Misery arse!

rcat74 · 30/11/2022 01:55

I’m still waiting for mine. I usually have it as part of my birthday present in November and have been waiting for it for nearly a month. It was really good last year and I now buy some of the products because of it. I won’t bother next year though if it’s not as good.

Conkersareback · 30/11/2022 06:48

@NeedMoMoney yeah great fun, buying an advent calendar opening it all immediately and then whinging about it!

Best fun ever.

Must have made OP really really jolly and bright.

Opening it all on the same day is the smart thing to do. If anything is missing, OP can exchange it.

There was a thread last week where a poster’s John Lewis advent calendar was missing an item, and John Lewis couldn’t replace the item.

TheRookie · 30/11/2022 07:26

I would think it would seem a little bit rubbish if you're opening it all at once, it'd be better if it was just a treat a day surely. Don't understand the point of opening it all at once!

BoobsOnTheMoon · 30/11/2022 07:29

But ... it's not even December yet Shock

ChessieFL · 30/11/2022 07:30

Some people buy these as a cheap way of getting lots of different beauty products to try or to use as presents for others, not to use as an actual advent calendar.

DarkMatternix · 30/11/2022 07:32

Yep, if you're not going to go for the theatre of opening it every day then you'd get far more value spending the money on products directly. (I mean you'd get more value either way but I assumed that people who want to spend 50 quid or whatever on 20 quid of things that they may or may not want do it because they want the ritual of daily opening and a surprise)

FangsForTheMemory · 30/11/2022 07:33

You can read a list of what’s in it so why the fuss? I bought it once, about four years ago, and while it was ok, I can’t be doing with all the little bits of plastic bottles and never actually used a quarter of the things. A waste of money IMO.

CaptainMerica · 30/11/2022 07:37

I've not opened mine, but I did check the contents before I bought it (would be a waste, if I wasn't going to be able to use it all). I thought it looked really good this year. I picked that one over look fantastic and glossy box, which cost twice as much.

I'm forgotten what is in it now though, so it will still be a surprise.

HowDoYouOwnDisorder · 30/11/2022 07:38

I think it looks great, and great valud

The only thing that unreasonably annoys me is that all Beaty boxes contain Philip Kingsley elasticiser, and I don’t want hair that’s like elastic. Thanks very much, so don’t know what the fuck that is for 😂

and the MS has 2 of these 😁

bit the other stuff looks good, I think! Nice to have some make up as well as skincare

Can I have yours OP? 😁

That's the opposite of true: the big beauty advent calendars are genuinely far cheaper than buying the same products individually. Obviously if a lot of the contents are things you wouldn't actually use then it's still a waste of money, but if you'll use most of them then they're a bargain.

Have you ever bought one of the calendars and priced up the items?

@EvilRingahBitch is right.

Inasec24 · 30/11/2022 07:43

I am opening one each day but have admittedly started early as I am counting down until I finish work for Christmas.
I'm quite happy so far! The under eye cream is lovely, is small but full size and worth over £40. The face wash is small but nice and the Nails Inc nail polish is nice.

Yep, businesses do it for advertising/ introducing people to new products.

I would never buy one as I wouldn't use them all so for me it wouldn't be good value as opposed to buying one full sized product that I want. But for some people they are.

However OP YABU to open it all in November 🙄

Conkersareback · 30/11/2022 07:49

@poefaced so the poster last week also opened all of hers? But it still didn't achieve what she wanted and therefore, it wasn't "smart"?
