For taking 5 months to choose my sons mattress

Please help me. My son is in a perfectly fine single bed but it is not perfectly fine for him as he is over 6ft. I found a perfect double bed frame with drawers 5 months ago that's been sat in boxes since but I can't find a mattress. He wants a memory foam mattress but I just cannot decide. Anyone have any suggestions? Probably £350 max budget. I am unreasonable for taking so long to find one I know.

I honestly can’t relate. Why have you left a bed in the box clogging up space for 5 months?
What exactly is stopping you from just ordering a mattress?

Just get a decent mattress and a topper. Some people don't find memory foam comfortable.

My suggestion is to take him to a bed shop and get him to lie on the beds to see if he likes memory foam or not. I didn't like it, and at the bed shop they said you can't use an electric underblanket with them.

How old is he? If he's 6 foot I imagine he's old enough for you to set a budget and let him choose. He'll be sleeping on it.

Just go to IKEA and order him a standard double mattress. Why all the drama and hand-wringing? Build the bed, put the mattress on it, end of.

Just order from Amazon or Ikea - could be done in a couple of days. But I have to say if he's 6' I assume he's 16+ he could do it too. Just tell him to order it within budget and put it on your card.

We've been to loads that's how we got to definately memory foam. But never got further than that due to budget.

Mattresses are so variable. I took months to choose mine too but then we went to about five different bed shops to try them out and found the perfect one. I'd try that if you're having difficulty deciding.

Nope not quite, he's been over 6ft since he was 13 and has asd/adhd so is crap at decision making like his mother. I've told myself I must decide this weekend it can't go on any longer

You set a budget. You buy the best you can within that budget even if it involves compromise.

We bought Emma memory foam mattresses for our kids. They are very comfortable and will see them through. They're also on Black Friday sale.

There you go, buy one of those and let the poor boy have a comfortable bed.

We've been to bed shops and I've read countless reveiws I am just piss poor at decision making. Like I think I'm going to pick the wrong one or something so keep searching to find the perfect one within my poor price range. By tonight one will be ordered I need to stop being a twat. Ordering the frame was easy as I picked one I liked the look of with drawers but mattresses all look the bloody same so I can't just pick one that just looks pretty 🤣 it's dumb I know.

I replaced our mattress with an Emma one 3 years ago, then the rest too. Everyone has liked them so far.

They've almost certainly got a discount code somewhere or black Friday sale.

Also should have said I'm the same, do endless research, don't reach a decision.

I bought an Emma because you can try it for 100 nights and return 8f you don't like it.

I think IKEA have a trial period too.

Well for your budget you are unlikely to get a truly perfect, best of the best mattress either way, so stop looking for perfection and just go for something with decent reviews.

That's the thing with decision making, once it goes too far you can't ever decide on anything because nothing is going to be "perfect". So better to just determine what's good enough, get it and forget about it. The fact you have a budget that isn't huge should help.

The reason we become crippled with indecision is because we are on a budget. If money were no object we'd pick up the phone to Harrods and get it sorted wouldn't we!

My son is 14 and 6'1 and recently we bought him a double bed. I took him to two bed shops where he tried out all the mattresses within the budget I gave him. It's important to try out your own.
Quick stop in Costa and we were home within 2 hours!

A mattress is a mattress! Order a random one online or if you have the money to spend and want something better, take him to a bed shop and get him to choose one he likes.

Do you have this issue a lot, worrying about getting exactly the right thing/that you might choose the wrong thing to the point it actually stops you doing things? It sounds almost like an OCD like trait.
