Should MNHQ Keep the 'Similar Threads' feature?

IMO this 'You might also like' feature revives Zombie threads, causes Active Convos to be cluttered up with threads that are no longer relevant (The wedding was 6 months ago, hopefully she found a frock!) and generally makes MN feel like a dentists waiting room full of out of date magazines.

YANBU - The feature should go
YABU - It enhances my use of MN no end, how did we ever manage without it?

I wonder if they WANT zombie threads to be resurrected to make the site look more active? There seems to be hardly any new threads being created recently, and the interesting/entertaining ones turn out to be trolls anyway.

CheeseIsMyPatronus · 21/11/2022 18:58

It's awful. MNHQ, what on earth were you thinking??

WomenShouldWinWomensSports · 21/11/2022 18:58

It improves SEO to have lots of interlinked pages this way but they need to work on refining their algorithm to maybe include a tighter date range.

MarigoldPetals · 21/11/2022 18:59

I don’t understand getting worked up about Zombie threads.
What does it matter if it’s an old thread - there are new people with new things to say on it. Let them resurrect it and enjoy it.

You may also like.. fucking really old threads from 7 years ago about someone's daughter having a tantrum or a thread from 2 years ago about what someone should wear out on Friday night 2 years ago.

You captured it perfectly, it's so dumb. Wish they'd get rid of it.

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/11/2022 19:01

NEEDS TO GO

Jafffffacakes · 21/11/2022 19:01

No get rid of it!

IhearyouClemFandango · 21/11/2022 19:02

I quite like the idea, but only for threads from within the last fortnight!

It's bloody annoying, when they are years old and take up active.

You don't see the problem in someone's thread being resurrected without their knowledge just so someone can post some useless out of date advice or irrelevant comment.

I've seen threads covering people's relationships break downs, parents who died and ones where posters had a miscarriage all being recommended.

These are real people!

Would you feel the same if it was a personal thread you made that other posters dragged up months / years after you made it? Would you like to be reminded of a problem / situation or issue you had put out of your mind when the thread faded away as they used to do. (before the new feature)

There are people behind the posts.

AdaColeman · 21/11/2022 19:05

No, it's just more clutter to scroll though.
Zombie threads are so irritating and absolutely pointless replying to, we don't need more of them resurrected by MNHQ.

But this should have been posted in Site Stuff where there is more chance of a MNHQ reply.

Dartmoorcheffy · 21/11/2022 19:06

Its really annoying, moreso on the phone as you have to scroll past it to post on a thread.

ArcaneWireless · 21/11/2022 19:07

It has been posted on site stuff Ada and it has been replied to.

SkinnyFatte · 21/11/2022 19:07

I thought I was replying to an active thread but after I posted I realised I posted on a zombie thread that was just under the text box on my tablet. I was very annoyed and asked for it to be deleted. My finger must have slipped.

So no.

Wilkolampshade · 21/11/2022 19:08

No. Messy and confusing. And occasionally offering up outdated advice.

Lawandsawdus · 21/11/2022 19:08

really annoying- get rid or a least lock for all but OP after a year.,

Even if we ignore the more sensitive topics, just think about how pointless it is for someone to reply to a thread today from 2012 asking which leggings look better for their night out that weekend.

You cant see why those being dragged back up were a bit annoying?

FictionalCharacter · 21/11/2022 19:09

I really hate it. So many more zombies being resurrected now.

DinaofCloud9 · 21/11/2022 19:09

No it's pointless.

It's on site stuff and they said "it's popular because it's had lots of clicks" 😂

MammaWeasel · 21/11/2022 19:09

It's crap.

LemonSwan · 21/11/2022 19:09

It might be useful as a feature when searching for a specific topic or answer to a question. Is it useful at the bottom of the page permanently. No. Promotes zombies.

JaneJeffer · 21/11/2022 19:13

It's good for nothing.

Please vote everyone!!

Or just make the "search" function better instead?
