To tell the poster who spoiled Bake Off Final....

That they're a sad twat, clearly after attention by spoiling things for others and they need to get a fucking life?

I know, I know, a TAAT, but it's along the sentiments that I was going to put on their post but it was (rightfully) pulled before I could post and I just thought they should know what an utter dick they are as no doubt they'll read this.

As you were!

I really hate spoilers. In this day and age, so many people don't watch programs at the exact time they're on so it is a spoiler to immediately put it on a forum. It's just cruel. People have lives and things going on to so it's easy to forget when a finale is on and you just look at social media without thinking about it.

The worst I had was when a colleague revealed a spoiler from The Walking Dead (when it was good😏) because it had been shown in America already but the UK showing was that evening. It's just bloody spiteful.

musicandpassion · 16/11/2022 11:35

Ohh ffs!!! I saw a thread with a name on the title but refreshed the page and didn't see it again. I didn't realise it was a spoiler. We haven't watched it as I work 12 hours on a Tuesday so wait until Wednesday when we can watch it together.

To all those who are saying "how long do you want people to wait...?" etc, how hard is it to not write the spoiler in the title? "GBBO winner 2022, spoilers ahead"? Putting the spoiler in the title is deliberately being a twat.

BIWI · 16/11/2022 11:37

@MavisChunch29

If it was posted after broadcast then it's not a spolier at all, and fair game to comment online and it's on the person who hasn't watched yet to keep away

It was impossible to 'keep away' as the troll posted the winner's name in their thread title.

MavisChunch29 · 16/11/2022 11:40

Don't go online at all until you've watched. If you do and see the result it's your own fault.

lieselotte · 16/11/2022 11:53

BrioNotBiro · 16/11/2022 10:20

Presumably it was on mainstream telly last night though, so valid to comment on after the event?

I agree. I never understand how you can have a spoiler in this instance. It's been on mainstream TV so it's fair game. I have inadvertently seen spoilers by straying onto social media after the first broadcast of something I was going to watch on catch-up, it's annoying but you just have to be careful and stay off social media and forums.

I've known who has been star baker or gone home before I've seen an episode more than once. One time I forgot I was watching on the "one hour later" option and had Twitter on!

Well it was: you don't go on social media or forums until you've seen it!

Silvercatowner · 16/11/2022 11:54

It isn't a spoiler if the programme has aired. I don't see why people cannot discuss the result if they want to, just because a few people haven't yet watched. Avoid SM if you don't want to know.

So in your world, when are we allowed to discuss things? A year later, just to make sure everyone has watched who wanted to watch?

JenniferBarkley · 16/11/2022 11:58

I've seen people berated on here for spoilers in shows like ER and Buffy Grin

This.
I rarely watch Strictly on Saturday and Sunday. Knowing that SM/MN is going to talk about the results I avoid.
It's not a spoiler.
MNers have been rending their garments and howling at the moon for years over (non) spoilers. It's invariably bake off for some reason.
Are people who did watch it supposed to not mention it for a day? a week? a fortnight?
Pathetic.

PeekAtYou · 16/11/2022 11:59

It is not a spoiler if it's been broadcast in the Uk. Up to people who want to avoid spoilers to not use SM and forums imo.

I wasn't surprised by who won but was surprised by last week's elimination.

ferneytorro · 16/11/2022 12:09

Reminds me of the likely lads episode where they go to extreme lengths to not hear the football score.

Hillarious · 16/11/2022 12:10

FFS, I wouldn't use the word "cruel". if you fail to watch the programme live, and it's sooooo important to you not to know who won, you need to try harder. I'm guessing it would have already been on the BBC News website anyway. Get over yourselves.

Take a leaf out of The Likely Lads' book - No Hiding Place. You need to go back to September 1975.

StaunchMomma · 16/11/2022 12:28

I'm sorry, I think that as soon as a show has aired it's free for general discussion.

If you haven't had the chance to see it then it's kind of up to you to avoid socials & boards until you have.

I too saw the who's won before seeing it but via the GBBO official FB page anouncement.

Annoying, yes. Worth getting pissy about? Not at all

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/11/2022 12:30

Oh I remember getting so much shit on here for saying Voldemort dies when Deathly Hallows 2 was released in the cinema.

Aside from the fact that the book had been out for years - did they expect him to live and for him and Harry to live together happily ever after? Grin

MightyAtlantic · 16/11/2022 12:34

If you don't want to see spoilers, stay off the internet. Them's the rules!

I’m sure there’s probably fanfiction that swings that way! Grin

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 16/11/2022 12:34

On another forum I was in we got told off for revealing Snape kills Dumbledore. It was many years since the book had come out, many many years!

Someone once unfriended me on Facebook as I wrote something about Doctor Who and they hadn't seen it. Don't go on the internet then!

I avoided the internet totally until I'd seen bake off. We watched it on catch up late last night, we watched the last 2, so I'd already seen online who left in the semi final. Oh well.

Out of interest what is the MN requisite amount of time after airing for a spoiler to no longer spoil?

I saw a post about 3 months ago where someone was complaining about a Gilmore girls ‘spoiler’, so longer than that. Someone start a thread telling everyone sandy and Danny end up together and see what response it gets, that’ll help us narrow it down.

Massiveaggressive · 16/11/2022 12:40

I usually meet up with a group of friends for coffee at the weekend. All of us watch bake-off - but one of us likes to watch it with her husband on a Sunday morning. Thus - for the whole series she has “banned” us from talking about anything that’s happened on the previous Tuesday night .
It really fucks me off to be honest.

IglesiasPiggl · 16/11/2022 12:42

Whilst it isn't technically a spoiler and you should generally avoid social media if you haven't caught up yet, it was totally unnecessary to put it in the thread title. They could easily have called it "And the Bake off winner is... Contains spoiler"

RambamThankyouMam · 16/11/2022 12:43

Sorry but that is pretty funny!

I agree with this. If there is something that has aired but I don’t want to know the result, I stay off social media until I’ve watched it. It sounds like this poster was being deliberately goady, but it’s not a spoiler if something has already been aired on TV. People are allowed to discuss the results of things!
