I'll start. As a young teenager I wrote to a celebrity and received a signed photo with my name and a personalised specific message on. It was on my bedroom wall for years I went to uni and left it behind. While I was at uni, my mum remarried and moved house. I was not involved in the packing and moving . My things all went into boxes into the loft of the new house.
Fast forward to about 3 years ago (27 years after the house was packed up) I am unloading my laundry basket (recent purchase from dunelm) there's a cardboard stiffener at the bottom that comes away and under there is my photo. Not a photo, but the exact one. I was so baffled and a bit scared I actually cried. In the 27 years I have lived in 7 different homes, all small so I have regularly had to streamline my things. I know what I own. There was literally no way it could have been there. I'd never stored anything in the laundry basket other than laundry. It genuinely still baffles me. Anyone else had a similar experience?

This sounds so utterly ludicrous that I hesitate to even mention it.

I live in a busy commuter town outside London, in a house with a large back garden. I was sitting in the conservatory one morning mending a favourite bra when a black jaguar came round the corner, paused, looked at me and disappeared down the garden.

Time stood still. I know it was a jaguar, but I also know it wasn’t really a jaguar.

It is possible. I have seen a mountain lion, walking across a field.

bluebellstar · 15/11/2022 17:48

Another one from me
When my middle DS was 3/4 he used to talk to a "Martha and Catherine" all the time at our old house. He used to say they had a light around them and liked watching him and us all but only he could see them.
When I looked on the 1901 census for the house there was a Martha and Catherine sisters who were age 3 and 5
We moved in 2016, he still remembers them but only vaguely

Look up “We’re Here Because We’re Here” an art event by Jeremy Deller.
I think perhaps that is what you saw ?

I suggested this but she saw her soldier in 1988.

CulturePigeon · 15/11/2022 17:56

Moranguinho
(I believe people see them, but that's not the same thing at all).
how does that work?

I don't think everyone who claims to have seen a ghost is lying. I think they are seeing something - who knows? Hallucination, waking dream, night terror/

But I don't believe 'ghosts' are an objective reality. I'm open-minded so I'd like to be convinced, but nothing I've heard yet has convinced me.

SouperNoodle · 15/11/2022 17:57

When I was a kid, if I had a sick bug, I'd lie on the bathroom floor as it was warm and the toilet was right there is a needed to throw up.
Whenever I did this, my cat would always come sit by me, sniff me and lick me.
When I was a teenager, I had a bug so was lying on my bathroom floor. My cat came walking over to me and I smiled at her but then suddenly remembered she'd did the year before. As soon as I realised this, she disappeared.
I don't know if it was her spirit or I had a high fever and was hallucinating but it was really heart warming to know she was still checking up on me.

DWMoosmum · 15/11/2022 17:58

My friends husband passed away. A few days later I had a dream he was standing in my kitchen and we were chatting, except it wasn't my kitchen, it was my friends (our houses are the same but the opposite way round to each other).

The following day I popped out and on the way home let compelled to stop and tell her about the dream. As I was telling her she said 'stop, wait there', and went and got her iPad. Her friend, who I don't know or have never met had sent her a message that morning, it said 'Had to message you to say that I had a dream about T last night. I was talking to him in your kitchen, but it wasn't your kitchen it was the opposite way round!' I was really freaked out and cannot explain how we had both has the exact same dream.

@Moranguinho thank you, I'm going to look that up now x

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/11/2022 18:20

Would it not just be another copy of the same photo? - the autographs are often printed on.

If not it was just stuck in your things and fell in.

AngelinaFibres · 15/11/2022 18:31

When me and my brothers were very young
( under 8) we shared the front bedroom at home . One night we were chatting after lights out and a book bounced from the doorway right across to the opposite wall. We all saw it. We all screamed and shouted for mum. She said that we were seeing things because we were tired. It definitely happened.

mashh · 15/11/2022 18:35

I'm a logical person, so sorry I don't think this can only be attributed to a "ghost".

There's many explanations of how this item could have ended up in your home - the most obvious being human involvement. How do you know you didn't take it to uni with you and left it there for safe keeping or that one of your close ones put it there at some point? It's been 27 years so plenty of time for the item to have been out of your sight, and plenty of time for people to forget what has happened with it

Moranguinho · 15/11/2022 15:23

I had a dream once that my daughter who was 13 at the time had her period (she hasn't had it yet). When I woke up I wasn't sure if it was a dream, or if it actually happened during the night and I forgot about it, thinking it was a dream. I went to my daughter's room and I asked her if she had her period, and she said no. Two weeks later she had it.

I think this one can definitely be attributed to 'coincidence'!

ChocolateCroissantCafe · 15/11/2022 18:54

As I understand it, OP's picture was signed with a personal message so an exact matching message would be just as unlikely to turn up. For example, To Lizzy, thanks to you and your friend Claire for coming to my Wembley gig - or whatever the names and places.

We had a similar thing happen, so I can well believe it. A long lost family item turned up, none of our immediate family had ever seen it before, even grandparents on the side of the family it relates to. It appeared on a recently built IKEA type shelf behind a set of modern books that had been put in all together, not old documents or anything like that.

Smallish family and nobody is given to pranks, and one parent into genealogy so if they had seen it previously, would have pored over it.

It depends on what you believe. I use my intuition quite a lot and it serves me well. I also don't believe in coincidences. Again, it depends on how you see life.

LMBoston · 15/11/2022 19:01

@RiftGibbon I had a similar experience, albeit decades apart. When I was little, I had an extremely vivid dream in which I was ascending a tiny, stone spiral staircase. It was dark and cobwebby (?!) and went up to a room that was completely bare: wooden floorboards, white walls and a small window with ivy growing across it, but no furniture etc. It looked old and neglected but I wasn’t scared. This dream stayed with me all my life and I often wondered why.

Last year, in my new job as housekeeper (posh name for maid of all works!) in a Georgian house that I’d long admired — been drawn to, almost — but never been inside, the owner said jokingly, “Your room’s up here if you want to see it.” I don’t live in but we’d been laughing about how he sadly couldn’t afford a full-time old-fashioned housemaid. He’d only recently bought the house after it had been in the same family for many years and it needed a lot of work.

He opened a tiny door off the pantry, I ducked to go through and… there was the stone spiral staircase. Cobwebs and all! Weird, but it got weirder when I reached the top and entered a room that he had stripped but not yet renovated: wooden floorboards, white walls and a small window overgrown by ivy.

It was EXACTLY the same as the place I’d dreamed of 40 years ago. I was uncharacteristically speechless; I didn’t tell the owner as I thought I’d sound like a madwoman (an attic being the best spot for one too!), and following on from that there have been other hugely strange coincidences involving my personal life and this house that somehow seem to suggest I was meant to be there. Or maybe that I was there before…

Lj8893 · 15/11/2022 19:18

I’m a midwife (may or may not be relevant).

Every now and again a random person will pop into my head and I’ll think “they are pregnant or their partner is pregnant”
Within a few months they announce or I find out they are pregnant.

It can range from people who are close to me to people I never speak to anymore from school, old workplaces etc. Sometimes it’s people that may be “expected” to have a baby soon, recent marriage etc. But sometimes it can be completely random, single people, very new relationships etc.

pairofrollerskates · 15/11/2022 19:18

I have moved home many times since I was at school. Recently, while working at a university (NOT even in the same county where I went to school) there was a display of old textbooks handed round for us to look at. I got one that had my name and class inside! Where did it come from? EEEEeeek!

ARoastPotato · 15/11/2022 19:23

I had something strange happening as a child. I must have been about ten. I had been reading at bed time, my school reading book, You'd get given one to read and once you finished you took it back to get another. This one had short stories in and this particular night I read the story of Grace Darling, rescuing people from a ship wreck. I remember the illustrations in the book including a lighthouse going up the page.

At breakfast the next morning I spoke to my parents about it, then I went to get the book to show them. The story wasn't in the book. I was really baffled and looked through other books trying to find the story. I read a lot as a child and reread many of the books I had in my room. I never came across the story again. My parents weren't very interested and I'm sure there is a logical explanation but it still baffles me today!

I have something similar to this! It was a poem we read at junior school, I would have been about 10. it was an odd poem really, it was winter term so probably around Halloween, it was about a ghost coming back to take a ring from a grave… I’m really wishy washy on the content but it was something like that, probably not appropriate for 10 year olds?? Anyway, I remember thinking it was great and my English teacher had delivered it brilliantly. I told my parents about it that evening because I thought it was so good. I scoured our class poetry book the next day and could not find it anywhere, it bothered me for weeks and I kept going through the book reading all the poems, I eventually asked my teacher which poem it was and she denied all knowledge of it. I remember feeling so utterly confused and it stills pops into my head every so often, did I dream it?!?

ive really enjoyed this thread, thank you all for sharing! I find the time slips fascinating, I’d be petrified if anything like that happened to me!

I’ve had a few but the morning I was in labour with no2 back in 1998

we’d got to the hospital and into the labour ward

for context,I’d had a normal, straightforward but very painful labour with no1 and couldn’t bear the thought of it happening again

i also had quinsy this time around-just what ever woman needs while in labour

anyway,I’m about half hour into labour-everything’s going as well as it could go and I suddenly felt my soul leave my body and I’m floating near the ceiling (I could feel my arse touching it) watching myself

I’m floating away above myself,no pain at all but I could tell my body was feeling pain but not my soul so I wasn’t feeling anything

im watching the midwives dealing with me and could hear everything-but I couldn’t talk to them

I saw my body get ready to push and my soul was sucked back into my body,I pushed (feeling him coming out) and I had a healthy boy who had pood, and breathed it in

i saw the nurse suck it out but I was looking with another set of eyes (I know that doesn’t make sense-it was like I was standing to the side but I was watching with my own eyes) and he screamed blue murder-to which I felt a ‘snap’ and I was ‘whole’ again

ive never been able to explain it nor have I experienced anything like that again

I had something a bit like like with my first born. Feeling detached and standing next to myself on the bed. Not out of body really but I just had a period where I had enough and like I was watching someone else give birth

Letsbekindplease · 15/11/2022 19:46

Maybe no spooky. More weird

when I was a young teenager, I was a total and complete LOSER (proudly still am). I just topped my mobile up and decided just to call random numbers. Not to prank call, but call them and ask for someone to be told “sorry you’ve got the wrong number”. (Don’t ask why I did that lol)
one of the numbers I called was a friend of a friend whom I had been in her company multiple times. I didn’t have her number nor had ever spoken or even text her on a phone. It was so weird that of all the numbers I could have called, I called her lol. I explained to her at the time what I was doing and how weird it was that I called her even though I was just randomly picking digits. She wasn’t amazed at all.

On one hand, I'm glad it's not just me, but equally, it's bloody odd! I think there'd been a few weeks between my dream and the experience, but I haven't had premonitions since (or before that incident).

How old are you Indigo? When I was in primary school, one of my SATS papers was about Grace Darling and I'm sure I remember it having illustrations like this.
