I'll start. As a young teenager I wrote to a celebrity and received a signed photo with my name and a personalised specific message on. It was on my bedroom wall for years I went to uni and left it behind. While I was at uni, my mum remarried and moved house. I was not involved in the packing and moving . My things all went into boxes into the loft of the new house.
Fast forward to about 3 years ago (27 years after the house was packed up) I am unloading my laundry basket (recent purchase from dunelm) there's a cardboard stiffener at the bottom that comes away and under there is my photo. Not a photo, but the exact one. I was so baffled and a bit scared I actually cried. In the 27 years I have lived in 7 different homes, all small so I have regularly had to streamline my things. I know what I own. There was literally no way it could have been there. I'd never stored anything in the laundry basket other than laundry. It genuinely still baffles me. Anyone else had a similar experience?

My dad died when I was 19 very suddenly.
The night before the funeral I couldn’t sleep and I was outside having a cigarette. The car was on the driveway and I saw my dad come out of the house, open the car door to get in it. I said “where are you going?” And he replied “I’ll see you later” Then he got in the car and disappeared. I kept saying “where are you going” over and over again until I was literally shouting it in the garden, my mum came out eventually I’d as woken the house up. Dunno if I was in shock and hallucinating but I’ve never seen him since and this was years ago.

But in relation to the OP after he died stuff did just disappear and turn up months later. Still happens now, even the most mundane items like keyrings from when I was little that I’ve not seen in years, they appear in a drawer. I always say out loud “Cheers dad, reckon you could make £50k appear”

Was walking along a long road with walls on either side. Little old fella coming towards me with a Yorkshire terrier. I nodded hello. He gave a nod back.

I carried on a few paces, turned around and he was gone. Disappeared. Nowhere for him to go as it was a high stone wall.

Used to work in an old school. My office was next to the boss's, with a small waiting area in between the two. Was chatting with a colleague in my office. Someone walked through the waiting area, into boss's office. "Hello??" I called out. No reply. I got up and walked into boss's office - no-one there. Very odd as colleague witnessed it too.

Ex boyf had an old house, like 1700's. I used to get there after work, it'd smell like flowers. No flowers in the house. Smell would all of a sudden disappear. Same with tobacco smoke.

Once saw a ghost in Liverpool near the Anglican cathedral. A young girl, red hair, dressed in very old fashioned clothes, staring straight ahead. Looked again and she was just gone. Gone.

I've posted about mine before, but I have two, I think.

The first I was about 12 and had a necklace very proud to me. I'd travelled to a different country to see family and we went camping. I was staying in a tent trailer, with beds that hadn't been made up yet as it was our first night there. I went to the wash room wearing my necklace, took it off by the sink and managed to drop the pendant. I was so convinced it had gone in the plughole my uncle undid the u-bend but it wasn't there. I shook my clothes out, looked in my wash bag and all around but nothing.

We got back to the tent trailer and my aunt had made up the bed I was sharing with a cousin, putting on the sheets and sleeping bags etc. The next morning we got up, got dressed and pulled the sheets off the bed, only to see my lost pendant on the mattress. Clearly there's a radical explanation, but I can't see how my lost pendant ended up under a neatly tucked-in sheet while I'd been wearing it in the wash room a short walk away.

The second was about a decade ago. I was standing on a street corner having a phone conversation. I watched a man walk past me with two boys, one in a red top jumping on the white lines on the road as they crossed. About 5 minutes later I swear that the exact same 3 people came past, following the same path with the boy jumping on the white lines as they crossed the road. I even said it to my friend on the phone at the time, that I was sure I'd just seen them. Technically, yes, they could have looped around to come past again. But it looked so exactly identical.

number 2 is bus stop phanominon.

I live rurally, busses show up when ever they feel like it, sometime your standing over an hour waiting and the same cars will drive past in the same order on a loop seemingly going nowhere... I would even note number plates, bumper stickers etc... to check.

Happens all the time, I can see why shit like this is why people latch on to the concept of things like the Truman show and Big Brother and our reality being 'fake'.

HUGanALPACA · 16/11/2022 18:52

I only have one 'woo' story...

I went to the funeral of my ex-partner's mum. She was very popular and there were so many people who went on to the cemetery after the funeral service that I didn't get to stand close to her grave and pay my respects. I decided to go back to the cemetery by myself a couple of weeks later to have a bit of quiet time by the grave.

It was a lovely, quiet summer evening and there was no one around when I arrived. It's a vast cemetery but I have a good sense of direction and I thought I knew where the grave was. However, I just couldn't find it. I went back and forth, up and down the rows looking for it.

I was just at the point of giving up when a group of about 6 kids appeared on the far side of the cemetery. They were chatting and larking about, a couple of them were cycling and they were just making their way through the cemetery. I didn't pay them much attention as they were quite far from me. I just kept muttering under my breath 'where are you?', looking for this grave.

The kids stopped suddenly and the eldest girl started reading out the inscription on a gravestone. It was the only grave they stopped at. She read the entire inscription loudly and clearly like she was doing a performance. I can just remember standing transfixed. The gravestone was about 200 yards away from where I had remembered it so clearly my sense of direction had been off.

The group left the cemetery without stopping at another gravestone and I walked down to the grave in disbelief thinking 'what the heck just happened there?'.

I remember telling my Midwife at the start of the appt and she looked at me like I was crazy then when it happened and I told her I can feel he has woken up and then she scanned she was in stunned silence. Then said every one is different but first time Mums don't normally feel anything until 24weeks.

I am not special I know others who have said the same.

Also I have IBS so I know what gas feels like 😂

It just goes to show sciences has not uncovered everything about the human body and mind. Some people are very intune with their body.

This doesnt make sense, Midwives dont do scan Sonographers do.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 16/11/2022 19:21

I have another dream one.

In 2008, the night before a smear test, I dreamed about my appointment in detail. The nurse, the room, the bed position and the conversation in which I was asked if I was sure I had never had treatment on my cervix as the colour was off. Anyway next day, lo and behold, the dream became a reality and I didn't feel able to wait on the results as I just knew my dream had been a warning dream. I was working in the NHS at the time and had contacts in colposcopy so was able to sneak in at the end of a clinic a couple of days later. I was found to have pre cancerous cells (confirmed by biopsy) and was then kept under regular review which was good as it returned a year later and needed treatment the second time. The thing was the results of that smear test came back as normal and if I hadn't had the dream I don't think I'd have arranged the colposcopy.

@PixellatedPixie Perhaps a UFO lol!

Classical24 · 16/11/2022 19:50

When my brother was very young - perhaps 4 or 5, he used to have these horrific night terrors.

One night, I was in bed (I had a bunk bed which you could store bits underneath.) and I woke up one night to him staring at me in bed, I was only around 7 or 8 at the time. I obviously screamed and he went back into his room and would point at the corner of his room "They're watching me, they want to kill me!". This happened on so many occasions and always about people watching him or staring at him and every single night terror it would be slightly different. I can only assume he used to sleepwalk or were just usual night terrors, but he would remember everything the next day and describe what he saw.
Mum and I were absolutely petrified. Luckily, they stopped after a year or so.

Oh, another one! This thread is unlocking many memories buried deep!

After my grandad passed, perhaps 6 months after Me, Mum, Auntie, Brother and Nan were sat in the dining room of her house, and they had this large DAB radio box. All of sudden nans favourite song started playing (I can't remember the song at all) and I went over to look at the radio and it was unplugged. Very weird.

Oh my gosh, how old were you? I reckon I would’ve fainted on the spot

cinnabongene · 16/11/2022 20:02

I’ve got a couple but I wouldn’t consider myself ‘woo’ at all. The first one is horrible, so apologies in advance.
In one of my first proper jobs, a woman I worked with was pregnant with her first baby and went off on Mat leave at about 8 months. One Sunday morning I woke up really early and for no particular reason a voice in my head said “she’s not going to have that baby”. I knew it was about this lady, as she was the only person I knew who was pregnant. Monday morning we were all called into the office to be told that tragically her baby had been stillborn.

My second experience is a bit longer, so bear with me. My mum had a Hei Tiki necklace which was given to her by a friend who was from New Zealand - genuine Māori and made of jade. She told me once that she and my dad went on holiday abroad a couple of years after they were married. They had been trying to conceive and thought the holiday would give them time to relax. On the first night she took off the Tiki necklace and put it on the bedside table. It disappeared. My mum said she turned the room upside down trying to find it. On the day they were due to fly home she opened the drawer where the passports were and found the Tiki sitting next to them. She had definitely searched the draw. Once home she found out she was pregnant with my brother.

Fast forward to a year after my wedding and my mum gave me the Tiki because I had been having my own fertility issues. I kept the Tiki in a purse in my handbag and a year later I was also pregnant. I left the Tiki in that purse, which I put away in a cupboard and didn’t think about it again. A few years later my husband cleaned out the under stairs cupboard and we threw out my old handbag. It was only a few years later when my mum mentioned the Tiki, that it occurred to me that we had thrown it away. I was upset and felt really guilty but accepted that it was gone. That same year my dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer and I was struggling massively. A few weeks later I was looking through a drawer for my marriage certificate (for a DBS) and there sitting next to my passport was the Tiki. I can’t explain it and don’t overthink it. I just think it came back to me when I really needed some comfort.

Funnily enough OP I have just been reading this story also about a vanishing photo that reappeared. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-63647723

laddersandsnakes12 · 16/11/2022 20:13

I've had a few strange things happen but I don't think I attribute any of it ghosts. But I definitely believe that there is a lot we are unable to explain about the world with the science and tech we currently understand/have.
As a teen I spent a lot of time with my maternal family, having lost my mum at a young age. My home life wasn't great, I had a terrible relationship with my stepmum and step siblings and I was an emotional mess. One day I was at my cousins house with my aunt, I was crying and was really upset talking about home, and then a DVD case on the other side of the room lifted itself up and flung itself across the room. We all freaked out and ran out of there. I also had dreams at the time which would sometimes come true - nothing big, just little things but I definitely went through a stage of these odd dreams. Grew out of that though! So I think there is something in the idea mentioned earlier in the thread about teenage girls and poltergeist activity - I was certainly going through a lot when all this stuff happened.

A few months ago I was sitting out on the balcony drinking a cup of coffee. It was dark, and I saw a light traveling across the sky. We live right near a flight path and an airport so this wasn't unusual. I watched it, wondering where it had come from, when all of a sudden it just completely switched direction, moving immediately at a right angle to where it was before. I know planes and helicopters can't just move in a L shape like that, so maybe it was a drone? But can't explain the movement, any logical explanations welcome, I'm sure it's probably something really banal!

Classical24 · 16/11/2022 20:51

@BigMama32 I must've been around 8 years old, maybe later. Can't for the life of me remember as it all blurs into one. But it was very unexplainable.

I have one of these!

I used to work at a services off a motorway. From my village to the services was six miles, along a short section of minor road to the junction on. Once I got on the road, the next junction was where my work was (and the same in reverse) The longest it ever took me one was was 40 mins, and that was in horrific weather.

I left work at 2pm. I remember the time because I'd got out a bit early and had rang my partner to ask if he wanted to take the dog to the beach. It was 7pm by the time I got home and my partner had been totally freaking out. He'd tried to call me but the calls were going to voicemail, had rang work who knew him and confirmed when I left. From his point of view I'd just vanished for five hours. He was on the phone with the police when I arrived home.

The really spooky bit is that it felt like a perfectly normal drive to me. Left the car park at work, drove back at a normal speed, got home. I had a new CD and can remember skipping a song back to listen to again.

It's not even like I could have stopped somewhere and fallen asleep because I'd have been in a live lane and it would have caused an accident. Hadn't missed the junction home or anything, just a trip that should have taken 30 mins or so took five hours.

That still creeps me out!

(And weirdly, something similar happened again driving home from a trip to Edinburgh with my sister.

We left midday and it took us hours to get back to Hartlepool despite there being no delays or anything unusual happening. We did stop off for a wee break but literally nipped into a McDonald's, grabbed a coffee and got back in the car. It was 12:30 or so when we left the city and nearly 8pm by the time we got home. Should have taken around three hours for a clear run which is what it felt like we had!)

Sounds like alien abduction Shock

I can't read this thread. Everytime I get to the post from the person who starts talking about their dad living in an awful row of terraced houses the app crashes. I've deleted the app and reinstalled it and gone on via the website and it just kicks me out. No problems reading any other threads.

About a month after I left my husband, I was still wearing my rings. Both snapped within about a week of each other. I wasn't sure whether this was a positive or negative omen!

BettyBoops · 16/11/2022 22:20

I love my pandora bracelet, each and every charm holds as special meaning to me. One day I caught it on our front gate and it snapped, I picked up all the charms that had scattered but I couldn't find one, it was the very first charm I was bought by DP shortly after we started dating and I was devastated. Searched everywhere but it was nowhere to be seen.
A year later my mum passed away, I had been to pick up some of her clothes to take to the funeral parlour and as I got out my car I dropped her top. As I picked it up there was my charm, just there in the middle of the pavement (busy main road) a year after losing it!
I was so overwhelmed I just burst into tears and thanked my mum (out loud, probably to the bemusement of passers by)

When I was at senior school I was at a friends house and her family (Mum, Dad, little sister) had gone out to do the food shop. We were upstairs in friends room. We heard them come home, front door opening, parents chatting, little sister laughing and running around and them carrying the shopping in. We decided to go downstairs to see if they'd bought any good snacks, got down there and house was empty. Their car was still gone, they hadn't come back. Really freaked us out, we went out and only came back when we knew they were definitely home!

OMG> This happened to me! I've never heard of this happening before. Thought my DS and MIL had come back home. Heard them chatting etc. Went downstairs and there was no one there.

@crochetmonkey74 I’ve told the story on mumsnet before but to this day I’ve never actually told anyone in real life. It sounds so completely ridiculous. I was suffering from post natal depression and the time and I was not sure if was having some sort of distortion of reality but having checked some of the details I have come to the conclusion that this did somehow happen to me.

I left the house with my baby ds2 in the pram to collect ds1 from preschool. It felt unusually warm given it was February. I had to take my coat off after a few minutes and I remember thinking how odd, it actually feels like summer in the middle of February. As I was walking I remember seeing there was a different sign on the doctors surgery except instead of it being new it was quite old and shabby and I wondered why they would have replaced it with an old one. I didn’t give it too much thought and carried on. A bit further down the road is a Co-op and I was going to pop in to get something on the way except when I got there it wasn’t a coop, it was a pub. I was so confused, it had been a coop that morning, completely as usual so I was absolutely stumped at how it was now a pub. I looked in and it was a proper pub with a bar, people in it etc. I was just wtf about how this coop had turned into a pub in the last 6 hours.

I carried on walking up the road to the preschool but as I got closer I realised I couldn’t see the building. I started to panic a bit and started running towards where it should be. When I got there, it was literally just an empty bit of green field behind a fence. I just stood there staring at it thinking what the actual fuck is happening and where is it. And then it sort of dawned on me. I had not paid a huge amount of attention to this but when I’d been looking at the new pub there had been a blackboard sign outside it saying something about watching the 2004 some sort of football cup final and I realised that somehow I was in 2004. Looking around, I could see most things were the same but some things were slightly different, small things like a house was painted a different colour, a tree where there hadn’t been one before, all the cars parked nearby looked a little older.

I was hyperventilating by this point thinking what on earth do I do? Im supposed to be picking up ds1. If it’s 2004 he’s not even born yet; I’ve not even met my husband yet and I’m stuck here with my baby wtf am I going to do?? I sort of slumped down next to the fence to catch my breath. I looked up as someone walked past and something about them made me feel like I was in the present day and I realised they were texting on an iPhone and thought well it can’t be 2004 can it? I stood up and the preschool was right there, everything looked normal again so I just went in, collected my son and went back home.

As I said I was suffering from pnd and I was worried if I mentioned this incident to anyone I’d have looked completely mad so I never told anyone. It was a couple of years ago now. I asked at the doctors surgery if they used to have a white sign with blue letters and they did. I looked into it and the coop did used to be a pub and I’ve found old photos of it and it looks identical to what I saw. I didn’t even know it used to be a pub so I do now actually think I did have some sort of time slip and that I didn’t imagine it. But I’m still not telling anyone in real life!!

WTF 😮
