….to ask how much a new boiler will cost me?

Dita73 · 14/11/2022 21:03

I apologise for posting in AIBU but I’m in a situation where I need advice pretty quickly.
British Gas have come to my house today and shut down my boiler. I’ve got no heat or hot water. I have someone from British Gas coming on Thursday to give me a quote for a new combi boiler but I have absolutely no idea how much this will be.
Does anyone have a rough idea? I live in a 3 bed semi if that’s any guide. I just need a vague idea of how much I’ve got to find.
Thank you

I had a new boiler from British Gas in April £3.2k including hive
I've got it on 2 years Internet free credit.

Great service fromBG. Price was comparable to others.

Belle96 · 14/11/2022 21:35

I've had two fitted recently it two separate properties im renovating (not mine) but with all the additional works, rads, power flushes, new tmvs, thermostats etc I've not paid more than 2.6k Inc gas safe certs!

TheNoodlesIncident · 14/11/2022 21:35

We used BOXT too, would recommend it. Wouldn't go with BG

IntentionalError · 14/11/2022 21:41

We had a new Worcester Bosch combi boiler fitted in 2019. It cost £2200.

notangelinajolie · 14/11/2022 21:41

4.5k British Gas. They were the only company prepared to take on the job and guarantee a fixed price. It was complicated and involved relocating the boiler from a bedroom to the kitchen, new pipe work for the radiators, other stuff, and hive. We had (cheaper) quotes from independent gas fitters but non of them would offer a fixed price. It turned out we made the right choice - they had to take out and refit half the kitchen to get the pipes to the boiler. We paid part cash/and the remaining balance interest free over 18 months which helped keep the initial cost down.

Startuplife · 14/11/2022 21:41

I just paid £1,265 for an Ideal Heating boiler. Then I paid the plumber £2,135 to remove the old water tank, do the boiler, change 5 radiators for new ones and remove one radiator entirely. We’re in the South East

Rubytoos · 14/11/2022 21:43

i was on a maintenance contract with BG and they quoted £5k to replace my boiler under pressure one day when they were servicing it. It was a really hard sell but I said no, as I didn’t have the money and the boiler was still working.
Last year it packed up for good and I paid Boxt something like £1800 for a new one. It was very easy to arrange, you get to pick delivery day, no issues. Very very happy with the service. Why would anyone pay BG extortionate rates?

charabang · 14/11/2022 21:44

£2400 for Boiler and powerflush. Midlands

YenneferOfVengabus · 14/11/2022 21:45

We paid 1.5k, including fitting, with BOXT in 2020. Would highly recommend them

Rainbowcat99 · 14/11/2022 21:46

I have a 3 bed semi too. Combo boiler, straight swap with no relocation I've been quoted £2300 and £2600.

Tiani4 · 14/11/2022 21:47

Get a Worcester combi boiler
Mine was £2,600 after VAT and fitting 3 years ago (does v large rambling house)

StripyHorse · 14/11/2022 21:47

We had a Worcester combi fitted today - cost around £3k

Replacement for a combi boiler that had died. I have been thankful the weather has been quite mild!

StripyHorse · 14/11/2022 21:47

Sorry should add - 3 bed semi, 1 bathroom.

PurpleNebula84 · 14/11/2022 21:48

Whatever you do, don't just go with British Gas - they can be expensive.
I had a new Worcester Bosch boiler fitted in May and it came with a smart thermostat and all that jazz (no radiators changed though) and it cost £2.5k. I live in a large 2 bedroom terrace.
A reputable local company will likely be very competitive.

Dita73 · 14/11/2022 21:49

@Rainbowcat99 @Tiani4 @StripyHorse can I ask who fitted yours? Did you go with British Gas or someone else?

Unihorn · 14/11/2022 21:50

We paid £1300 for a new one fitted a few months ago in a 3 bed semi, it was a straight swap. Glad I live in Wales, I'd never have been able to afford it looking at these prices!

Rainbowcat99 · 14/11/2022 21:52

My £2600 quote was E-on who I'm with for energy. (Worcester boiler)
The £2300 lower one is a local plumber for a Baxi boiler.
Haven't had mine fitted yet though.

Clicheinaqashqai · 14/11/2022 21:53

We had a combi boiler fitted by BG last year. We didn't have a combi before so had to change some pipe work under the bedroom floor and they removed the old water tank etc. It was around 4.5k in total with a hive thermostat.

notanothertakeaway · 14/11/2022 21:56

Vaillant and Worcester Bosch are good brands

bellabasset · 14/11/2022 21:59

You can currently get free credit with BG, and you'll save on your homecare package. A Worcester Bosch is around £3,000 for the newer eco model 30kw with Hive. You'll save about 20% on your gas usage. The boiler is around £1,600, I think

MakeItRain · 14/11/2022 22:00

Local plumber - cost just under £2000 a year ago. I started doing the BG online quote and it was looking like £3500 to £4000 with them. Ask around for recommendations. I asked in my workplace and have been so pleased with the cost and the running of it.

Bigslippers · 14/11/2022 22:00

Not needing a new boiler yet (touch wood) but the boxt website and price looks unbelievably good. Have bookmarked their website just incase.

Ventimiglia · 14/11/2022 22:02

Depends on what type/ brand of combi you choose- and how many radiators/ how big the house etc. British Gas are generally more expensive than a local gas safe plumber. But British Gas did mine about 3 years ago. They offered me a discount which took them down to the ballpark of the others (£3k- small terraced house), so they got the job.
I got a "manager's discount".... they must be able to award it at their discretion. I'd had a contract with them to service/ insure my old boiler, so I was an existing customer of sorts. That boiler got condemned during the Beast from the east winter.I'm a widow with 2 kids and i had no money. Had to take out a 0% credit card to cover it and had no heat or hot water for 6 weeks while i tried to find the finance. I think they just felt really sorry for me and offered the discount.

Withnoshoes · 14/11/2022 22:03

I’d defo get other quotes from smaller firms maybe recommended by people you know where possible. Think we paid about 2.5 k for ten year warranty boiler, radiator flush, and a nest smart thermostat.

We have the same company service it yearly ( for a fee)

Chuckiegg · 14/11/2022 22:04

Regular boiler (not combi) just under 3K, 5 years ago.
