To balance out the 'hates' tgread currently running.

What do you like/love that makes your home a happy place?

Lots of colour
Books
Artwork
Wood flooring (downstairs)
Carpet in bedroom
Blankets

My house is quite quirky!

Zrt · 15/11/2022 19:02

Never mind the HoH wallpaper, lets have a look at those lovely tiles behind the sink! Grin We want a tour of @Daves house

NCFT0922 · 15/11/2022 19:04

@Inasec24 you’ve just described my home ❤️ It also featured heavily on the most hated features 😂😂

ColdHandsHotHead · 15/11/2022 19:14

Wooden flooring, loads of books, loads of framed pictures or prints that have personal significance (ie not bought en mass from IKEA), very comfortable sofas, bright rugs, plants, floor-length curtains, walls painted in light or bright colours, many clocks.

An acquaintance has lots and lots of books displayed. I’ve made a mental note and over the years none of the books have ever moved which means although she may have read them once, they’ve never been picked up again. They are dusty too. So what’s the point of displaying them other than to show you can read?

She is a massive snob who judges people by tv size so I’m probably aligning all ‘lots of books!’ people to her to be fair.

My books are in alphabetical order so I can find the one I want. Unless I add some, they don't move.

Davethecat2000 · 15/11/2022 19:41

Thanks @Zrt and @mamabear715

My taste is fairly colourful and eclectic and probably ghastly if you like minimalist interiors!

I do love the fact though that I get a fair amount of friends asking me for advice on colour and furniture , which I'm always happy to do. I love interior design!

Frenchfancy · 15/11/2022 20:46

@Davethecat2000 love it!

Frenchfancy · 15/11/2022 20:48

@ColdHandsHotHead yes to clocks. I'm on the lookout for one for the living room. Couldn't live without the kitchen clock (which is always set 5 minutes fast)

Olive green walls
Velvet cushions
Fairy lights!!
Lamps (never the big light on)
Pink lighting like Kimjoy

My house! It’s a country cottage, lots of jewel toned velvet furniture and dark walls downstairs. Large inglenook fireplace. Oak floors. Kitchen is a pale pink which sounds odd but it suits the space. I think pink has its place in a country cottage kitchen! It’s a cosy, eclectic house; lots of paintings of horses and wildlife as well as lots of photos of happy events in our lives. A couple of lazy dogs sprawled out on a very large navy velvet sofa complete the picture 😊 it really is my happy place although more suited to the winter and autumn than the summer.

The bedrooms are light and airy. Carpeted throughout. Main bathroom is black and white
Victorian style which I love. I have a beautiful oak four poster bed in the master, it’s modern but a real wow factor piece of furniture. Master bedroom is rose pink and grey with Laura Ashley oriential bird garden (or something like that) wallpaper which is so soothing and restful. My bedroom is a wonderful place to be in.

Zrt · 16/11/2022 07:43

Which pink is your kitchen @TarquinOliverNimrod ? I'm imagining F&B Middleton pink which I currently have on my loft stairs & it looks great!

Parkopedia · 16/11/2022 08:55

I love mid century. I don't have it, but I love it!

@Davethecat2000 I love the colours in your living room and that rug 😍😍

MotherWol · 16/11/2022 10:31

Like @NeverDropYourMooncup I love green interiors; my dream home is a 1930's semi with soft, dusky green walls, parquet floors, lots of plants and vintage Ercol/MCM furniture.

White/grey as a backdrop to natural tones and colours, especially wood and brick.

Minimal stuff, uncluttered but still feeling homely and lived in.

Kitchen-dining rooms, but a separate living room, so it's not all open plan. Closed cupboards rather than open shelving.

Kilim rugs (I know they're probably passé but I don't care)

Plain coloured bedlinen with lots of texture

Like a PP said, I'm aware that my aesthetic is trendy, so inevitably it'll go out of favour and look dated, but when it's your genuine taste, it doesn't really matter.

xogossipgirlxo · 16/11/2022 10:41

Davethecat2000 · 16/11/2022 09:36

My living room/ kids playroom are quite bright!

Lovely. Reminds me of "Love actually" for some reason. I bet you have beautiful house.

I love wooden floors, mix of antiques with mass produce items (I dislike all Ikea-made interiors), some products made to order like wooden coffee table, bit of colour, warm light. I prefer much more framed picture painted by kids than poster bought on ebay saying "Live, laugh, love" or this sort of thing.
I also like American-style kitchen. They look really cozy. Something like the attached. It might not be the trendiest thing in the world, but I like it.
