To ask what to do about neighbours loud sex?

We live in a flat in a converted period house, so we don't expect soundproofing to be the best.

New neighbours moved in below us about two months ago. Ever since they moved in, they've been having ridiculously loud sex every weekend. It's only ever on the weekend, usually starting in the morning and then periodically throughout the rest of the day. They have woken me up on multiple occasions (I work late shifts so sleep in until 9am). Without going into too much detail, the woman is a screamer.

I'm glad she's having a good time but I'm so fed up of not being able to sleep, watch TV, or just be in my own home at the weekend without being disturbed by them. If it was an occasional thing, fine, but it's every single weekend without fail.

I've tried banging on the walls/floors and playing loud music, thinking maybe they didn't realise the sound travelled so much and once they did, they'd be quieter. It worked for about five minutes but then they were back to it as usual.

All suggestions welcome - sensible and non-sensible!!

Leave a note stuck to their front door so that passing people can read it "Do you know the rest of the block can hear your loud sex sessions?,please have some consideration for your neighbours";alternatively if you're cheeky enough ask the female neighbour for her business card as your friend is looking for a new prostitute to visit and you assume she sees her clients at home at the weekends?

In all seriousness, the neighbour I had that was like this was in fact a prostitute.

Mischance · 13/11/2022 16:36

Drop a note through the door.

Does this impinge on anyone else in the flats?

If it is causing a disturbance then they need to know - but if it turns them on I have no idea what you do!

Change your wifi name to “I can hear you having sex Flat 1A”

And then go round the other neighbours with suggestions they change theirs to "So can we", "I can too", "Us too" and "Annoying, innit".

MOTY1995 · 13/11/2022 17:07

Oh please I love sex and have great sex but don’t scream like a banshee

Bbq1 · 13/11/2022 17:14

All the advice suggesting clapping, scoring them etc - they would probably love that and it would encourage them to be even louder.

Rippled · 13/11/2022 17:19

When I see thread like this, I wonder if any MNers will admit to being the ones who do it loudly in a flat or terrace. Must be some of you?

If you don't any more, eg due to kids, why did you start and why did you stop? Or did you buy a detached so no one knows?

NeatTigerFeet · 13/11/2022 17:29

We had this problem years ago and we're not exactly quiet either so it made us worry next door could hear us to so one day I casually approached the woman as we were just on 'morning, hello ' terms and asked her if they had settled in ok as moved in a few months after us, she said yes and said were we happy living here which was a perfect opening for me to say 'its all good apart from the thin walls.. you know? Hope we've not disturbed you at any time ' and sort of smiled and nodded and she burst out laughing saying that she was aware they could be loud sometimes like we were! We ended up really laughing and we moved our beds away from each others walls that day as realised they had basically be headboard to headboard through the wall. No and again we'd hear a bit but as we'd talked about it it just broke the ice and sorted itself out. If you can't talk to them buy some earplugs or make as much noise as you can and make a competition out of it 🤣

Speak with them first as that is the right thing to do.

Failing that, you are the upstairs neighbour and they are being foolish to annoy you. Get your loudest pair of shoes on and start running across the floor after the event. They’ll soon get the message!

Upstairs neighbours definitely have the advantage, see here especially 1:19

Shattered04 · 13/11/2022 18:22

Record it, and then play it back on repeat full volume with speakers right up against the floor every time they do it. You can wear earplugs/loud music through noise-cancelling headphones to drown it out yourself. Put them off their stride!

There's a chance it'll just turn them on further, but in that case it'll be over faster ;-)

Theopossumwasmeantforme · 13/11/2022 18:39

Do they seem like they might know this song? If not just play it loud anyway 😂

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 13/11/2022 18:42

Our ndn's adult ds had his bed against our wall. Assumed he was hammering nails not a lass. Bang bang bang bang bang no rhythm just banging! ..... Sent him Spotify link to Lionel Richie's All Night Long.
He actually moved out that week end. His dps were mortified we could hear them.

JimDixon · 13/11/2022 19:25

Or there's this classic from the 1990s but I fear it would only encourage them!

Pinkknits2 · 29/01/2023 06:45

Why? It's not like it's abnormal.

Pinkknits2 · 29/01/2023 06:47

You either have a word with them or deal with it I'm afraid.

MattDamon · 29/01/2023 07:00

After many years of various noisy neighbours, trying to speak to them reasonably, the only thing that has ever worked is waking them up in return. Figure out when they're asleep and tap on the walls/ceiling with a broom. Just enough to rouse them. Wait a few minutes so they are just falling asleep and then do it again. When their sleep is impacted they suddenly give a shit.

WandaWonder · 29/01/2023 07:01

Part of me says write a note, another part says get a loud musical instrument, fog horn, a megaphone whatever and play something really loud everytime it hapeness

Torturedsoul · 29/01/2023 07:06

@Pinkknits2 why have you revived 2 threads about sex this morning?!

Daffodilis · 29/01/2023 07:26

Clap loudly 😈

Robyn847 · 29/01/2023 08:26

You could match her scream for scream inbetween the gaps. But louder and 'faker'. Even if they're set on showing off surely that would put at least one of them off their stride?
