AIBU to wear a Fairisle jumper as soon as it gets cold and not keep for Xmas?

I love Fairisle and wear them as soon as it gets a bit chilly. But a shop assistant said to me the other day that she loved my jumper as it was lovely and festive. And I was a bit embarrassed, do people think they are Christmas jumpers? It’s is navy/brown/purple so not festive colours.

Fair Isle can be worn at any time. In summer if required.

ofwarren · 10/11/2022 19:52

I think they are beautiful and have never seen them as festive.
Wear your lovely jumper.

Ruizy · 10/11/2022 19:53

That’s what I wanted to hear. I wear on cold September days. But I just thought maybe people are looking at me wondering why I am wearing a Xmas jumper in September!

Definitely wear it, the shop assistant obviously didn't know what she was talking about!

AmethystMoonShine · 10/11/2022 19:53

I wear my fairisle jumpers as soon as it’s cold… just like all my jumpers.
I love fairisle so I say wear whenever you like!

Ruizy · 10/11/2022 19:54

I’m in Scotland so it’s only really June/July that is too hot for a woolly jumper lol!

No, fair isle is definitely for all year round!

Ruizy · 10/11/2022 19:56

Thank you!

I see them as festive but not exclusively festive if you know what I mean!

Keyansier · 10/11/2022 19:56

You sound ridiculous and also that you created this thread to promote this company and then all the posters have also, for some magically unknown reason, just happened to be on here at the same time to also heap praise on this company that nobody has ever heard of.

Ruizy · 10/11/2022 19:56

I think maybe some people do see them as a bit festive. But as long as I don’t look really odd that’s ok with me

On Scandi crime shows they wear them all the time. I have never thought of them as festive.

Ruizy · 10/11/2022 19:57

Fair isle is not a company! I buy my from a hand knitted shop in Scotland

What are you talking about??
Fairisle has been around since the 1800s! It's a heritage brand from the Shetland Isles.

Ruizy · 10/11/2022 19:58

Sorry that was answer to keyansier

I think they are wintery as opposed to festive and I really like them - that's maybe what she meant! I wouldn't see them as purely a Christmas jumper!

Mrsherdwick · 10/11/2022 20:01

I want a fair isle jumper now!!

Riverlee · 10/11/2022 20:01

Fairisle thread

Have you seen this recent Fairisle thread. Lots of lovely jumpers posted there.

Ruizy · 10/11/2022 20:01

Yes I do love them. I think cos I tend to think I can’t go out of fashion as they are kind of just traditional. So it’s a safe option for me

What are you talking about? The OP hasn’t named a company and she is not promoting one. She’s talking about a style of knitting pattern that’s very old and famous.

Which company? Confused

Mrsherdwick · 10/11/2022 20:01

Also isn’t Fair Isle an Island?

Riverlee · 10/11/2022 20:02

I think some Fairisle jumpers are Christmas-y, ie. If they have snowflakes in the pattern, but others are fine.
