To ask what show I should go and see?

DH and I thought about getting tickets for a show as a Christmas gift but this year has got away from me and I don’t know what to see.

Hamilton: absolutely amazing
Come From Away: absolutely amazing

We’re in London but doesn’t have to be West End - seen great stuff at Wimbledon and Richmond.

Any recommendations?

I’d prefer a more adult themed story, musical or play is fine - just really good production values.

Any suggestions?

I meant we’ve seen Hamilton and Come From
Away which were both fantastic - I’m listening to Hamilton right now on Alexa

@Merryoldgoat Sorry OP, posted on the wrong thread, i reported my reply to get it deleted.

ChorltonWheelie · 10/11/2022 19:43

Really enjoyed The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Quartz2208 · 10/11/2022 19:46

I really liked Back to the Future but dont sit in the Grand Circle

Book of Mormon is good too

Mushroo · 10/11/2022 19:48

@Merryoldgoat sorry for not being more helpful but did you prefer Hamilton or Come from away? Currently trying to decide which to book!

(I loved Dear Evan Hansen as a recommendation, but it’s not very cheery!)

You absolutely have to go see moulin rouge! I went earlier this year and it was easily the best show I've ever seen!

Dear Evan Hansen has ended.

Come From Away is ending in January so if you want to see it see fast!

Hamilton has a lot more life left in it

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 10/11/2022 19:51

Book of Mormon
Waitress
Six

Kayjay2018 · 10/11/2022 19:51

If you like Bob Dylan music, my DH and I have loved girl from the north country. It's on tour after being in the west end and broadway and is in Wimbledon in March

Mushroo · 10/11/2022 19:52

@Quartz2208 thank you! I’ll go for that then :)

AnnPerkins · 10/11/2022 19:53

If you like a play I can highly recommend To Kill a Mockingbird.

ShinyMe · 10/11/2022 20:00

My favourite favourite thing in recent years by MILES has been Pride and Prejudice (sort of) which is a sort of adaptation of Pride and Prejudice as told by the servants, with songs. It's ridiculously funny and lovable and just so good. I've seen it several times now, and it's on tour currently. It's in Richmond at some point I think.

PurpleFlower1983 · 10/11/2022 20:02

Cabaret

PurpleFlower1983 · 10/11/2022 20:03

Crazy immersive immersive experience that only happens rarely, don’t miss it!

Lj8893 · 10/11/2022 20:03

Moulin rouge was incredible!!!

Merryoldgoat · 10/11/2022 20:05

@Mushroo

I’m sorry but I couldn’t choose. They are both phenomenal.

Come From Away has more ‘heart’ I suppose and it’s lighthearted whilst being heavyweight. It’s beautiful.

Hamilton is spectacular in every way but it’s not ‘quiet’.

If someone said I could see one again I’d pick Hamilton but it’s not ‘better’ per se.

Sorry for the entirely unhelpful reply 😳

I hated Dear Evan Hansen, the characters are just all awful people and it really grated on me.

I'd recommend:

Six
Cabaret
& Juliet
Moulin Rouge

Merryoldgoat · 10/11/2022 20:07

@AnnPerkins

We saw TKAM with Rafe Spall a few months ago and it was amazing - absolutely mesmerising, wasn’t it?

I loved & Juliet, seen it twice. And I’ve heard Life of Pi is amazing. It’s very personal but we went to see Book of Mormon and neither of us enjoyed - maybe it’s just not our sense of humour. I don’t think it’s aged that well, given what is widely acceptable today!

Inmyownlittlecorner · 10/11/2022 20:10

Choir of Man is excellent, really feel good, I’m seeing it for the third time tomorrow. I also enjoyed &Juliet. The play that goes wrong is always a winner too. I saw Heathers the other week & that was very good. My whole family loved Pride & Prejudice (sort of) & we’ll definitely go & see it at Wimbledon. Cabaret is next on my list.

Haus1234 · 10/11/2022 20:10

I really liked Six but it’s a bit more like a concert than a play without a huge amount of plot.

Also really liked the following which aren’t musicals - Life of Pi, To Kill A Mockingbird.

Merryoldgoat · 10/11/2022 20:11

Moulin Rouge I wouldn’t see as I detested the film. It’s just not my thing.

I love Pride and Prejudice so will look at that and Six is a good shout too.

Thank you all so much :)

We saw The Play That Goes Wrong a while back and I loved it.

Yes I definitely think the fact it is less than two months left really does decide. I would try and see Hamilton as well but at a later date!

There is also a new Great British Bake off Musical on for a 12 week run we are going to see
