Do FM fragrances actually smell like the brands?

My friend has just signed up. I never wear perfume so can legitimately escape the sales pitch but I'm curious if they smell like the brands they are meant to smell like.

I guess there is no reason they shouldn't. I'm guessing brands copyright the fragrance make up but I suspose anyone who knows their stuff coild identify the nake up?

Yes some of them at extremely similar. A family member sells them and I got some samples - one was a chanel coco mademoiselle dupe and it’s very very close

SpookyPanda · 29/10/2022 15:56

What's an FM?

SunflowerSmith · 29/10/2022 15:57

Yes they do but they fade quicker than the official ones, not a problem to reapply though because they're so cheap.

I prefer the Essens ones though as they last longer, I recently bought Issey Miyake and Armani Code versions and they smell the same.
The ones I bought were £21.50

Usingthisone · 29/10/2022 16:00

@SpookyPanda it's just a brand. The sell perfume dupes via MLM. As I say I don't know anything about perfume so was curious.

I was just curious if they smelt like the fragrance they were meant to be or more like the ones you get at car boots called "Channel no55" and smell like drain cleaner. 😂

They get very defensive when you call them fake. They are fake, Lord knows what is in them, or what it ultimately funds.

Ah right. I avoid MLM's so thanks for the heads up

LisbonKid · 29/10/2022 16:06

Eden (not an MLM- they have shops) make vegan perfumes to match.
Chanel Mademoiselle is spot on, as are many others we have used and gifted.
cheaper and cruelty free, and if you reuse the glass bottle you get the refill slightly cheaper 💖

Isn't the point that they are fake?

My niece did FM Fragrances and of course when I told her MLMs are a scam and she’ll lose money I was the worst person ever (I was right though). As a result half the family bought off her for Christmas and I got 3 perfumes which all went in the bin, I didn’t smell them first because I couldn’t for the life of me support an MLM. But I do laugh when they claim they have the ‘same fragrance tones’ 🤣🤣🤣WTF are they on about

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 29/10/2022 16:10

I’d also hate for a situation where I’m told “You smell nice what perfume are you wearing” and I’d have to either lie or tell them it’s a pyramid scheme perfume

Endogal · 29/10/2022 16:16

Generally try to avoid MLM but was skint and needed new perfume last year, the two I bought (supposedly supes of Black XS and Chanel no. 5) were revolting. Smelled absolutely nothing like the real things. Should have trusted my instincts 😂

Whatthejackdawsaw · 29/10/2022 16:16

If you know the original perfume very well then no they don't pass, if not familiar then yes they can pass as similar, the FM rep who said she had a genuine perfume on one side and FM on the other seemed miffed when I correctly identified the genuine after telling me it would be impossible but it was one id worn for years.

CornishGem1975 · 29/10/2022 16:17

I bought a dupe of Viktor and Rolf BonBon. It's nice and it's similar in some ways but it's not the same and has a bit of a different lingering scent.

Why would you throw them without smelling them? That doesn't equate not supporting an MLM. Buying them yourself would be supporting them.

Usingthisone · 29/10/2022 16:30

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet but by that point the MLM had already been supported so you throwing them away was an empty and wasteful gesture. I agree re MLM but I don't understand what your protest was meant to achieve.

@MossGrowsFat I don't understand how they can say they aren't fakes when the whole point of them is that they "replicate" brands. I guess they are unethical as all the big perfume houses?

Because I actively dispise MLMs and wearing them would go against my principles.

I also have lovely designer perfume and don’t want shitty cheap crap all over me.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 29/10/2022 17:11

@Usingthisone it wasn’t a protest, and I thanked the givers and didn’t tell them I’d binned them.

But to me it’s the same as if someone gave me a fake designer handbag - it’s been supported but it doesn’t mean I have to use it

SpookyMcGhoul · 29/10/2022 17:20

They definitely don't smell the same to me - I love perfume and wearing it, I know my scents well. Also wouldn't support an MLM at all! Fragrance houses (the good ones) use the best of the best ingredients, FM uses very synthetic smell-a-likes.

ChristmasFluff · 29/10/2022 18:05

I second the recommendation from @LisbonKid . Eden perfumes are really good, and ethical

FamilyTreeBuilder · 29/10/2022 18:09

Designer perfumes are a complete rip off. You're better looking at perfumes in Hollister, or M&S, Next, Zara, trying to find something you like and which suits you, rather than looking for a poundshop rip-off of a designer brand and supporting a disgusting MLM scheme into the bargain.

SafeHeaven · 29/10/2022 18:09

I bought an FM one which was the baccarat rouge one, it gave me a rash

LittleBlueLadenDownWithDew · 29/10/2022 18:46

Slightly off topic, but does perfume parlour have good dupes?

OliveKitten · 29/10/2022 18:57

I think there's something ethically quite wrong about FM (aside from it being an MLM). They aren't 'officially' fakes, but one of my former colleagues is an FM flogger and all the shit she puts on Instagram is very very clear about how they're meant to be dupes. They openly profit from other companies' intellectual property and I think it's a bit grim.

RosieRoww · 29/10/2022 19:13

Some do, I remember one from Lidl that smells very similar to Chanel Coco Mademoiselle.
