To not let them start putting a few Xmas bits up **light hearted**

So for the past week my over excited husband and two kids have been on my case to put a few of the Christmas stuff up. To me this is early even for me (we do it usually mid way through November!) Am I being a scrooge or shall I let them put a few bits up? Not talking tree or anything but a few Xmas Dec's, like santa, a door mat and a few Christmas bits for indoors like ornaments

Too early. Halloween comes first, then start thinking about Christmas.

candycrush789 · 27/10/2022 10:15

Exactly my point 😂 he's just an excited big kid 🤦🏻‍♀️ we've been through alot this past few months and haven't had alot of happiness just ALOT of sadness so think he's trying to do well by trying to cheer me up. I am debating it🤦🏻‍♀️

Put lots of Hallowed stuff up instead! Ideally crafted so cheap and creative and kills some time.

WellDunHun · 27/10/2022 10:18

It's a nope from me!

Topseyt123 · 27/10/2022 10:22

It would be a firm NO! from me.

I'm a bit of a Christmas humbug anyway, and can get away with that more now that my "children" are grown up and in their twenties. 🤣

girlmom21 · 27/10/2022 10:34

Are any of the ornaments more 'winter' than 'Christmas'?

ComtesseDeSpair · 27/10/2022 10:36

If it’s going to cheer them up in what can be a miserable part of the year then why not? It’s only decorations. If you really can’t stand the sight of Christmas stuff quote yet then winter-themed ornaments (e.g. robins and snowflakes, rather than Father Christmas) and some lights are a nice pick-me-up amid autumn dark early mornings and evenings.

bananaboats · 27/10/2022 10:36

I love Christmas but I'd be sick of the sight of them by then if I put them up now! Could you maybe compromise with some fairy lights or something thats nice for the dark nights but isn't necessarily Christmassy?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 27/10/2022 10:37

Aren’t you going to be bored and fed up with it in two months time?

QueenOfWeeds · 27/10/2022 10:39

We do lights/candles etc (White Company winter scent) from when the clocks change, and keep those bits until Candlemas. All other external decorations up from the last weekend in November, tree first weekend in December and they stay until Twelfth Night. Bit of a compromise!

MistyGreenAndBlue · 27/10/2022 10:40

Fairy lights are not just for Christmas.

And I cant see the harm in a few wintry themed decorations. But

Halloween and Bonfire night come first in this house.

Do a bit of both. If your household needs cheering up then who cares what month it is?

GasPanic · 27/10/2022 10:40

Surely what makes Christmas special is that you only have it for a short time once per year.

I am a bit of a humbug. But even I like the Christmas lights coming out in December after the dark nights of October and November.

Once the Christmas lights start going up in August it kind of defeats the point.

GasPanic · 27/10/2022 10:41

Second weekend in December should be the earliest.

But it's NOT August. Its almost November.

orangeisthenewpuce · 27/10/2022 10:43

Ffs it's October!!

GasPanic · 27/10/2022 10:44

No but if we carry on getting earlier and earlier it will be August at some point !

It's like mince pies in September. We'll end up just getting them all year round which makes them less special.

I think most people will still wait until at least after Halloween. I'm not worried about it 😂
But then again, I don't care what other people do in that regard anyway.
I'm waiting till December as always.
Others can do whatever they want.

KitchiHuritAngeni · 27/10/2022 10:48

I put my tree up last week.

Its shit, cold, miserable, we are poor, I've just been diagnosed with my second lot of cancer in the last few years, so if a beautiful tree and some glittery tat can make me and my dc smile a bit then I was going to do it.

It has cheered us all up immensely.

People have been saying this since I was a child in the 1980s.

Whatsleftnow · 27/10/2022 10:49

If it’s only a sense of should that stopping you, I’d let them have their decorations.
On the other hand if it will negatively impact your mood then that’s a good reason to say no.

candycrush789 · 27/10/2022 12:27

I love Christmas it makes me really happy, so that's why I'm debating it. We had a mmc and it's really taken its toll, my mental health has plummeted and my dh hasn't been taking care of himself, just making sure me and the kids are okay. I had surgery and seemed to have complications with it and its really been a rough month or so. I have sorted out the front room, weather I do it now or not I don't know but it needed a good sort out anyway. I could never get bored of christmas, we got married over christmas so it makes it extra special 😂❤️I will update on this post if it goes ahead or not 😂 for all you bahhumbugs 😂😂

@KitchiHuritAngeni I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, sending you and your family so much love and strength ❤️❤️❤️

Oh op it sounds like you're all going through it right now. If it will cheer you up then just do it.

Sometimes self care does come covered in glitter 🤣

I hope the run up to Christmas is a lot more gentle on you than the last little while has been Flowers

Here's my tree (I will be redoing it next month on my usual decoration day, but I let the kids have this month 🤣).

To not let them start putting a few Xmas bits up **light hearted**
girlmom21 · 27/10/2022 12:43

In that case OP stick the whole bloody lot up! Flowers
