To not let them start putting a few Xmas bits up **light hearted**

So for the past week my over excited husband and two kids have been on my case to put a few of the Christmas stuff up. To me this is early even for me (we do it usually mid way through November!) Am I being a scrooge or shall I let them put a few bits up? Not talking tree or anything but a few Xmas Dec's, like santa, a door mat and a few Christmas bits for indoors like ornaments

Hard no from me. We have a late November birthday. We do that first and then christmas.

Oh op it sounds like you're all going through it right now. If it will cheer you up then just do it.

Sometimes self care does come covered in glitter 🤣

I hope the run up to Christmas is a lot more gentle on you than the last little while has been Flowers

Here's my tree (I will be redoing it next month on my usual decoration day, but I let the kids have this month 🤣).

Excellent tree 👍🏼😁

SpookyMcGhoul · 27/10/2022 12:52

I've got Christmas bits out now!! I'm all for fairy lights, sparkles and joy!

BeeDavis · 27/10/2022 13:07

Why does your decision trump what they want to do? Does it really affect your life that much to let them put a few decs up?

candycrush789 · 27/10/2022 13:26

@KitchiHuritAngeni lovely tree 🎄 that's what we do but might just let them have it this year 😂😂 thank you, and yourself I hope you are as well as can be, thinking of you all ❤️xx

@girlmom21 think I might have to just bite the bullet and do it 😂

I'm firmly in the nothing before December camp.

When I was a child nothing happened until we'd broken up for the Christmas holiday (Mum a teacher & did the nativity play every year).

Too early and it looses all the fun for me. But everything stays up until 12th night.

I also leave my Christmas shopping until December - I love being out in the dark with all the lights on then finishing up having dinner & drinks.
That got curtailed by having children though!

NorthStarRising · 27/10/2022 13:31

We do autumn stuff. Decorations, lights, specific foods and the like.
Christmas stuff happens from 1st December until the first week of January.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 27/10/2022 13:34

I'm usually a staunch not till dec person (and my birthday is 30th Nov so a good time) but in 2020 we put it up early as I was miserable and it made me happy.

If it will make you happy then do it. If it helps, wait a few days and then its November and more acceptable 😄

For me, we'll be waiting till Dec again. But as early in Dec as we can find the time to do it. We have 4 trees downstairs

Vebrithien · 27/10/2022 14:54

We as a family have come the to compromise that we don't put up anything Christmassy until after Remembrance Day/Sunday.

However, in Jan 2021, after so many terrible times, DH suggested that we kept one set of lights up and on, all year through, as they cheered us up so much.
Hence, one set of LED lights are around our front door frame (inside). They make me smile, when I am up early.

Lapland123 · 27/10/2022 14:58

I wish my husband was such a Christmas fan! I’m going all out on halloween decorations but looking forward to kicking those out next week. Think it’s lovely to get in the mood like previous posters suggest, lights, candles, snowflake things! Holding off on mega- Christmas 🎅 stuff until … mid November ( at the latest!!)

sorry to hear of your loss

Abra1t · 27/10/2022 15:00

The clocks haven't even gone back yet!

mondaytosunday · 27/10/2022 15:03

I love Xmas but no way - far too early. If they are excited maybe they can plan a theme or make some crafts to use later.

Hillarious · 27/10/2022 15:27

Decorations are just dust-catchers and if they're out long enough to need dusting, then that's just simply too long.

scrivette · 27/10/2022 15:33

I have hung the new baubles I bought from the window as the look pretty (and saves me having to put them up in the loft) and DH wants to get the Christmas Lego out this weekend.

I would let him them put a few little bits out, maybe it will give you a chance to do something for yourself whilst they are occupied?

Oldraver · 27/10/2022 15:41

Nope nothing should be up until after Remembrance Day

1994girl · 27/10/2022 15:42

Far too bloody early. 2 doors down has had hers up for the past week, I think it's absolutely ridiculous.

KitchiHuritAngeni · 27/10/2022 19:05

Just popping back to show you my tree with the lights on since theres so much outrage about putting decs up early 🤣 it's making me so happy.

What did you decide @candycrush789

To not let them start putting a few Xmas bits up **light hearted**
muchprefersummer · 27/10/2022 19:14

I'd love to put decs up really early but DH always says no decs until December. Even by my standards though, this is too early. I personally would wait until after Remembrance Sunday, as that means a great deal to me and would feel somewhat disrespectful. But each to their own.

Leeds2 · 27/10/2022 19:20

It wouldn't be happening in my house, but we are all different!

Could DH and DC compromise by decorating the house for Halloween, and leave Christmas for a few weeks?

SleepyPlanet · 27/10/2022 19:59

Op, we have got Christmas lights up on our tree outside the house.

(In our defence they have been there since last Christmas and we have just not had the time or intelligence to take them down. Yes, they have been there for a bloody year and I'm sure the batteries will finally run out probably end of November).

SellingFairytales · 27/10/2022 20:05

My neighbour asked me if I didn't celebrate Christmas when I didn't have my decorations up, on December 3rd.

candycrush789 · 28/10/2022 04:55

@KitchiHuritAngeni it looks very festive! Well SOME indoor Dec's are up, we have a 3ft santa greeting us every morning when we walk into our living room along with pretty Christmas ornaments 🥰 , we haven't got a tree as we got rid of it last year so thats not up but i don't doubt if we had one, it would be up! Merry Christmas to all you bah humbugs 😂😂 I'm fully aware it is too early, however I bit the bullet as been such an awful few months so why not 😂😂

Crucible · 28/10/2022 05:05

@QueenOfWeeds that's a lovely idea I'm going to do that, and start a bit later. I hate January when the decorations come down. I cheer my house up on the day it all comes down by getting a big bunch of flowers in; this might be a better option, leave them all up bit longer through January. I'd also like to more natural decoration too, pine cones and dried orange, that sort of thing.

CrazySchoolTimes · 28/10/2022 05:57

I'm firmly in the not before the 1st Advent group (so can be the last week of November). However DD woke me with a rousing chorus of her favourite carol yesterday and when she had a friend over on Wednesday they made a Father Christmas together. So I might be fighting a losing battle here...
