As above WhatsApp not working. Has it affected you yet?

There are a hundred other free messaging apps, people are acting as if WhatsApp is the only one.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/10/2022 10:00

Even Aldi is in on it

Ooh thanks op. I didn’t realise this and was mildly disappointed that a guy I like hasn’t replied to my last message. Will now convince myself it’s because of this and not because he isn’t interested!

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/10/2022 10:03

I would miss it, yes, it's my most used app.

A messaging system is only as useful as the number of people on it. Few, if any, compete with whatsapp in that regard.

Greenginghamdress · 25/10/2022 10:06

Working here again now.

I would miss it, it's an easy way to communicate with people and convenient.
I also use it for work, quicker than email.

Tort · 25/10/2022 10:06

Yes - the reason WhatsApp is so useful is that it’s so ubiquitous. So when you want a group chat for your basket weaving group it’s likely most of the group will already have it set up and you don’t need to download something new.

Exactly, WhatsApp is the one everyone's heard of. Very glad it's now back!

Iwantmyoldnameback · 25/10/2022 10:07

I would miss it dreadfully my family and friends use it all the time.

Ponoka7 · 25/10/2022 10:09

I would definitely miss it. It's the main way that I get sent pictures and videos of family etc. My DD, who has a level of LD's shops for me when not well, WA videoing calling is a great way to shop remotely. I have friends from around the world and they keep in touch with family via WA.

MrsLannister · 25/10/2022 10:09

I would miss it, it’s one of the only and easiest ways for me to keep in touch with DH who works offshore

seperatedmum · 25/10/2022 10:15

No. bloody toxic work WhatsApp groups. I could choose to come off social media including this but I'm expected to be on this with all the round the clock toxicity, demands and hun-ing 😳

SavoirFlair · 25/10/2022 10:18

The bit I find fascinating is how grateful people are for this post telling them WhatsApp is down.

Does no one use Google anymore? Type in WhatsApp if you ever get “Connecting” or any issues, and you’ll know in seconds from the top trending result, what is going on.

Motorcycleemptyness · 25/10/2022 10:42

i would miss it because it is the main source of communication between pretty much everyone I know. I cannot remember the last time I sent a traditional text message - literally all of my messaging is done on WhatsApp now.

The picture messaging and video calling is excellent and I am not in any group chats that annoy me. We have an immediate family one of my parents, my partner and brother which I enjoy being in, and a work one which is used sensibly by all involved (eg we just message to pass on information too urgent for email and leave it at that, no mindless chatter).

Messaging services are only as good as how you use them, and I literally roll my eyes at people who agonise about group chats etc. just leave or mute them!

Why would you Google it if you didn't know it was down?

SocksAndTheCity · 25/10/2022 09:59

Me neither. I don't use anything owned by facebook and I have unlimited free texts.

Only SMS in my contract so I use whatsapp loads for pictures / videos.

BamBamBilla · 25/10/2022 10:50

Never used it. I use SMS or Telegram

Gronkle · 25/10/2022 10:52

I'd never notice. I have it but my notifications are turned off. People know to contact me by text, I hate in and group chats. Yes yes, I know I'm on Mumsnet, lol

Inane group chats, I mean

hellosunshineagainxxx · 25/10/2022 10:53

I have got so much work done today I feel like I should delete it 🤣

Livetoplay · 25/10/2022 10:56

Yup! I use a group for work, 2 for volunteering, several to organise kids sports plus I have family overseas so we use it to share pics and message each other for free!
mine wasn’t working for a couple of days last year and it was like having my right arm cut off!
it’s very, very handy for group stuff

Redwineandroses · 25/10/2022 11:01

What'sapp is good because I can send pictures and videos for free whereas sending by text charges me as its not in my phone contract. I can also video call plus we have a group chat going that's funny.

AryaStarkWolf · 25/10/2022 11:02

I'd miss it, It's great for keeping in contact with different groups of people

Comefromaway · 25/10/2022 11:04

I would miss it. It is the main way I communicate with my children away at uni etc and with a certain group of friends.
