To want a travel cup that doesn't make drinks taste horrible?

Any suggestions for travel cups with lids that still enable you to enjoy the taste of tea or coffee? Not bothered if they are insulated or not.

I've tried several and the plastic or bamboo ones make drinks taste plasticy and the metal ones make them taste a bit tinny.

There is no such thing. I have a keep cup and it a) doesn’t keep the coffee hot b) makes it taste weird and c) the lid is a pita to put on.

Contigo. Non spill. Doesn't taste weird and stays hot.

Yep agree. Great flasks!

I may try this too ty

Metal but no tinny taste. Keeps hot for aaaages

Downside. Is expensive

Arcticlife · 18/10/2022 22:39

Also keep one cup solely for coffee. If you put coffee in a travel cup, even after washing it, it will make everything else after that taste weird.

FatFilledTrottyPuss · 18/10/2022 22:40

Dd has a glass water bottle that doesn’t make the water taste weird and I have a Boden insulated cup which doesn’t. The boden one does leak though.

I don't drink hot drinks but I can tell you from a chemistry point of view that either glass, glazed ceramic or precious metal (gold/silver) will have the least effect on the taste. I don't think gold or silver travel mugs exist but toughened glass options do seem to be available if you google.

Tisfortired · 18/10/2022 22:40

Yanbu. I have had a couple of Contigo’s now (keep drinks hot for hours and spill proof) but I do think the drinks still have that tinny taste.

I'll just buy myself a solid gold one. What cost of living crisis eh? 😀

I’ve got a NOMAD cup from Nespresso which I love. It has a really clever plastic lid that has no taste and it doesn’t leak even upside down in your hand bag.

HouseOfRunners · 18/10/2022 22:45

I love my bodum travel mug 😊

Timetochangetheoil · 18/10/2022 22:46

I totally agree the bamboo/plastic ones have a funny taste and the metal ones just seem
to absorb the taste of every drink that’s ever been in them so they are just bitter and gross. My favourite travel mug is one from Disney, it’s a beautiful Alice in Wonderland /Mary Blair ceramic one and it doesn’t impair the taste of my tea :)

Ship · 18/10/2022 22:46

I have a ceramic one from Costa that isn’t insulated but has a lid for travel. Doesn’t make it taste weird but obviously doesn’t stay as hot as an insulated metal one

demotedreally · 18/10/2022 22:47

Bodum. They also need breaking in

I got one of these at the weekend and agree
It's a tiny bit plasticky if you slurp from the top but doesn't spill and wow the heat was brilliant

3catsandcounting · 18/10/2022 22:51

I love my Bodum travel mug, only use it for tea or coffee, but it has to be put in the dishwasher after use, otherwise anything will taste faintly of chicken soup 🤷‍♀️

These are the best I've ever used and you can order spare parts for them.

JennyWreny · 18/10/2022 23:13

Definitely Camelbak Forge. Keeps drinks hot for a long time, doesn't leak and doesn't have plastic taste. I put both bits in the dishwasher too.

Thelnebriati · 18/10/2022 23:23

I wish this thread had existed before I bought one, I stupidly assumed a travel mug would be leak proof.

DeePlume · 18/10/2022 23:23

Sho cups are brilliant

PenguinTattoo · 18/10/2022 23:34

Agree with previous poster that any ceramic ones will wash well and not have the weird taste.

Other than that the rule has to be they are one drink cups only, so only water for one, only tea for another and only coffee for number three. Never mix them up!
If you want them not to leak, I recommend these, but only if you aren't clumsy (looking at you DS). They still work post dropping but are more likely to leak. :( www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08LG5F8D1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

MarianneVos · 19/10/2022 02:38

Lots of good suggestions! I'm tempted by a ceramic one and that Disney one is very pretty.
