To be so worried.. ovarian cyst?

fringeofdoom · 11/10/2022 14:59

I'm so scared. For a while I've been a bit bloated but thought nothing much of it. The past couple of weeks I am so bloated and it never goes down, I look 3 months gone.
I constantly feel like im desperate for a wee when im not, and my boobs are tender.
I can't eat much as I feel full and uncomfortable quickly. It's really getting me down and sick with worry.
I have the copper iud.

Has anyone had an ovarian cyst? Did you have symptoms?

I've had one and the main symptom was severe pain in the ovary where the cyst was, and this became excruciating during my period. Turned out I had endometriosis too - some of the symptoms you describe are compatible with that but honestly the best thing to do is to go to your GP and have a blood test for CA125 and you'll probably be referred for an ultrasound. I know very skinny women (I'm not) who've had enormous cysts and they never knew - bloating isn't necessarily a symptom.

Ifiwasabird · 11/10/2022 15:05

I've had 3 whoppers - 2 removed by surgery. No symptoms, discovered during scans for pregnancies and surgeries were laparoscopic and recovery was fine.
I'm a size 10 and had a 10cm cyst but no bloating.
A cyst really isn't anything to panic about but obviously you need to get to the root of the symptoms you're getting.

TrashyPanda · 11/10/2022 15:08

I’ve had loads over the years.
only had 1 dealt with medically and that bcos I was having a hysterectomy, so they removed one the size of a ping pong ball.
My only symptom was pain

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 11/10/2022 15:14

Could you be pregnant?

fringeofdoom · 11/10/2022 15:17

Thank you all! The health anxiety in me is obviously worrying about ovarian cancer.. I'm only 34 though. I have period type pains but nothing crippling.
I had my last period as normal (on day 21 of my cycle) and I've not had sex since before my last period and had negative tests.

There are a lot of threads on this, I know because I post on a lot of them!

I had a 28x 20cm ovarian cyst (size of a rugby ball). All fine post surgery and hold support with recovery etc. No symptoms until it had grown to that size and went to hospital with suspected appendicitis.

Oh my goodness, poor you! I had a baby in September 2021 and obviously had scans then and nothing was mentioned.
It just seems very random symptoms the doctor is convinced it is gastric but with the need to wee all the time and where the pains are I'm wondering if it's hormone/ovary related x

Have you spoken to your GP? The sooner you do the sooner you'll get it sorted.

fringeofdoom · 11/10/2022 15:24

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I have. She gave me omeprazole and booked me in for an endoscopy? But to me that doesn't make sense with what my symptoms are.

OP posts:
Mercurial123 · 11/10/2022 15:24

I've had them throughout my 30's. They reduced significantly or there was no sign of them when I had trans vaginal ultrasounds at a follow up appointment usually 6 months later.

I had a full hysterectomy last year as I have a gene mutation and that was to avoid uterine/ovarian cancer.

fringeofdoom · 11/10/2022 15:27

@Mercurial123 what were your symptoms if you don't mind me asking?

OP posts:
Whitby1234 · 11/10/2022 15:30

I had a scan on Friday for fibroids. They were shouting numbers to be written down. Afterwards I queried about the one at 16
He said it’s not a fibroid it’s a cyst. So I’m sat at home waiting . What will happen now. I had the scan Friday and Iv heard nothing. Will it be millimetres or cm.

That's odd. I'd expect a referral to gynae.

fringeofdoom · 11/10/2022 15:27

@Mercurial123 what were your symptoms if you don't mind me asking?

I would get a stabbing pain which was really painful. Also, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer I would get regular trans vaginal ultrasounds to measure endometrial thickness. I always had cysts.

If it is fibroids, there are a number of things they can do.
try not to worry.
are you to go back or are they sending the results to your go?

Mercurial123 · 11/10/2022 15:39

They would test me as I was on Tamoxifen which may lead to uterine cancer.

Whitby1234 · 11/10/2022 15:44

No I have multiply fibroids
the one at 16 is a cyst
do you think they will contact me soon
sorry for barging in
im worried sick

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 11/10/2022 15:59

Did you specifically mentioned your concern that it could be ovarian cysts/cancer to your GP? Sometimes it is worthwhile putting your fears into plain words and asking the GP for their thoughts. It gets it all into the open and the doctor can then either allay your fears or respond with some appropriate tests to exclude or diagnose.

Perpetuallypregnant123 · 11/10/2022 16:02

It depends on what they've said about the cyst: simple, complex, thin walled, septations. Ovarian cysts are normal up to a certain size.
What did the ultrasound exactly show?

fringeofdoom · 11/10/2022 16:07

@SirSidneyRuffDiamond yes I did, I said I'm wondering if it could be gynaecology like a cyst or even cancer and I explained the bloating and the needing to wee. She asked if I had regular periods or bleeding after sex and when I said I don't think so (I have regular periods but not sex haha) she dismissed it and said it won't be gynaecology then?

OP posts:
Perpetuallypregnant123 · 11/10/2022 16:15

If you've not had an ultrasound scan and the GP isn't concerned, perhaps book one yourself privately if that's an option for you. It'll be a female pelvic ultrasound, probably transvaginal and lots of the places that do private pregnancy scanning do them. They'll give you a report to take to your GP and you can take things further if necessary.

Ovarian cancer at 32 is unlikely but if you want reassurance and further investigation that's probably the best way to go.

AGreatUsername · 11/10/2022 16:19

I was diagnosed with low grade ovarian cancer earlier this year aged 36. My only symptom was bloating (for about 6 weeks before I went to the GP). My periods were normal and I had no pain. Looking back I did get full quickly but didn’t really notice until after it had gone!

As someone above said you need a CA125 test and a scan asap. It is way more likely to be something benign but it is vital you do not delay getting checked. I had 2 tumours, one on each ovary and about 9cm each and I never would have known, and I’m a size 10.

northernlass1988 · 11/10/2022 16:21

@AGreatUsername was bloating the reason you went to the GP? x

northernlass1988 · 11/10/2022 16:22

I had looked at this and it's £135. It's a lot of money I don't really have but I think it might be the best route x

northernlass1988 · 11/10/2022 16:23

@AGreatUsername did you have any urinary symptoms at all?
