To be so worried.. ovarian cyst?

fringeofdoom · 11/10/2022 14:59

I'm so scared. For a while I've been a bit bloated but thought nothing much of it. The past couple of weeks I am so bloated and it never goes down, I look 3 months gone.
I constantly feel like im desperate for a wee when im not, and my boobs are tender.
I can't eat much as I feel full and uncomfortable quickly. It's really getting me down and sick with worry.
I have the copper iud.

Has anyone had an ovarian cyst? Did you have symptoms?

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 11/10/2022 16:23

In which case I would go back with a written list of symptoms and a print out from the NHS website about ovarian cancer. My sister in law has been recently diagnosed with OC. Her symptoms were: bloating, satiety on eating and urinary issues. I'm not saying you have OC but it needs to be taken seriously.

AGreatUsername · 11/10/2022 16:28

@northernlass1988 looking back I can see I had mild other signs. Ie I was probably weeing more often than I do now, but I drink a lot of tea so never really worried. I had some bowel symptoms looking back, bouts of piles or loose stools which again I just put down to bugs. I was tired but also very anaemic.

The bloating was the only reason I saw a Dr. I had been constantly bloated for 6 weeks, not massively but enough for me to know it was wrong. The gynaecologist even kind of laughed at me for worrying saying I was so slim I didn’t look bloated, but I saw her face drop when she tapped my tummy and realised it was liquid inside (ascites). It FELT like liquid to me too, like under my ribs like pregnancy and more wobbly than i remembered my tummy being!

The GP thank god requested the CA125 test which came back at 420 (normal is under 35) and within 6 weeks I was in surgery.

Lovecatsanddogs · 11/10/2022 16:29

I would not get the blood test CA125 as in younger women it is notoriously unreliable. Mine was sky-high due to endometrious. I would ask to be referred for an ultrasound scan.

Quebeccles · 11/10/2022 16:36

I’d say a scan would be sensible. I had an ovarian cyst - it made its presence felt with sudden, intense pain so bad that Dh was on the point of calling an ambulance, then it gradually lessened and I didn’t want to make a fuss, etc etc…but booked a GP appt ASAP.

GP slightly terrified me by saying he was sending me for a scan like, yesterday, and even asked if I could afford to pay for one privately?! The result came back as an ovarian cyst.

When I went back to the GP I couldn’t get to see the same one and a different one (female) scoffed at me, told me I was constipated and that I didn’t have any gynae problems, the pain was just IBS. Made me feel completely belittled.

A couple of years, a lot of agony and some expensive private treatment later, I had a proper diagnosis of Stage 4 endometriosis. And yes, an ovarian cyst.

I hate to say it, but you have to push sometimes to be taken seriously as a woman with 'women's issues'. Can you see a different GP?

Gobowen · 11/10/2022 16:40

I had a 30cm ovarian cyst (actually histology came back as borderline tumour). My only symptoms were persistent bloating and later on being unable to empty my bladder completely, which meant I was going more often.

I went to the GP twice about the bloating and they were very dismissive, it was only on the third appointment when I looked and felt 5 months pregnant, that they could no longer dismiss me, and sent me to A&E!

My CA125 test came back normal, but ultrasound diagnosed the cyst and I had surgery about 2 weeks later.

northernlass1988 · 11/10/2022 16:48

Name changed its OP.. I'm so scared it could be cancer I've got 2 young children.. could this be ovarian cancer?

Runningwithoutstopping · 11/10/2022 16:53

I have ovarian cancer looking back I did have symptoms but I also have Crohns disease so I put my bloating/ abdominal discomfort/ toilet changes down to a flare of Crohns. My ovarian cancer was found during a scan of my kidneys and bladder following some bleeding, they were fine.
There are many things apart from cancer that your symptoms could be, but I strongly suggest going back to your doctor and demanding more tests. My GP ' would not a symptom go unexplained' and I sincerely wish that everyone had this experience unfortunately sometimes we do have to be our own strong advocates.
I hope you can get some answers to put your mind at rest

Rainraingoaway21 · 11/10/2022 16:56

Lots of other things it could be but I would say push for further tests. I know someone who had those symptoms and ignored them for too long. She was young and had OC. Don't want to scare you as like I say it could be many other things, but I'm very surprised GP hasn't taken it further just incase.

northernlass1988 · 11/10/2022 17:10

This is my stomach, do you think it looks really bloated? I am so so scared I'm now sat in tears.

Perpetuallypregnant123 · 11/10/2022 18:25

Rebook an appointment with the GP to discuss your concerns and in the meantime shop around for private ultrasound scan and see if you can afford it, especially if you're this distressed.
When I've had them in the past the price range has been from £60-120 depending on where.

Wibbly1008 · 11/10/2022 18:29

I had a cyst that led me to have early c-section for dd. They removed cyst and my Fallopian tube during the surgery (I didn’t mind it was my last bubba). Felt like contractions and I was convinced I was in labour the pain was intense

AGreatUsername · 11/10/2022 18:56

@northernlass1988 please don’t be upset.

Look, the chances are very good that it is NOT cancer. Really high.

But, if it IS something to worry about then getting it found, diagnosed and sorted out is the best thing you can do towards being healthy.

The thought that something serious might be wrong is terrifying, but right now your symptoms could be indicative of so so many minor things too, don’t worry too much until you have reason to. Call the GP tomorrow and insist they do the tests you need.

Rainraingoaway21 · 12/10/2022 15:59

How are you today OP? Did you call your GP again?

northernlass1988 · 12/10/2022 16:40

@Rainraingoaway21 I'm the same really 😢 I feel exhausted, I was awake from 4am feeling like I had to wee. I think that's the most worrying symptom at the moment, I'm needing to wee around every 20 mins and constantly feel like I have a full bladder.

northernlass1988 · 12/10/2022 16:41

I couldn't get through to GP but I've booked for a private pelvic scan tomorrow.

Faciadipasta · 12/10/2022 16:48

Hope you get good news OP

GrumpyMummy123 · 12/10/2022 17:08

Cysts, fibroids etc - my only symptom has been excruciating ridiculously heavy periods.

I do get bloating and tender boobs with hormone changes - but as far as I know unrelated to my Endometriosis/ Fibroids and only lasts about 48hrs.

I'd definitely get a second opinion. Ask to speak to a woman's health/gynecology specialist. On BBC breakfast this morning there was a GP saying how menopause training is about 1 hour - and I could believe it. What you're going through may not be menopause related, but I do think most GPs have horrendous women's health awareness. I've only ever had any useful help from specialists, most GPs haven't had a clue apart from an awareness of pregnancy and childbirth, but after that they're stumped!

AGreatUsername · 12/10/2022 17:32

@northernlass1988 let us know how you get on tomorrow. If there is anything wrong there is support here on MN so just PM me. Wishing you the best of luck.

Rainraingoaway21 · 13/10/2022 17:44

Really hope you got on ok today @northernlass1988

northernlass1988 · 13/10/2022 19:02

Hi everyone. They found an ovarian cyst on my right ovary. She said it should probably go away on it own, I think she called it a... corpus something cyst? At least I know one way of the other now! Thank you all x

Tiredpigeon · 13/10/2022 19:16

I had a dermoid cyst with all the early pregnancy symptoms. It was benign but the size of a grapefruit when it was removed.

Will they be monitoring you regularly over the next year?

Rainraingoaway21 · 14/10/2022 17:19

That's good news, nothing scary!
