To just want to find a non-alcoholic wine that doesn't taste like shloer?!

violetcuriosity · 09/10/2022 15:09

20 weeks pregnant, missing wine so much. Every non-alcoholic one I've tried tastes like shloer.

Does a 'realistic' one exist? Or do I admit defeat and wait until baby is here...

Impossible in my opinion and I wasted £70 in the vinegar based wine people recommended as dry. It was vile.

Imtoooldforallthis · 09/10/2022 15:19

What about non alcaholic lager, there are some really good ones. You could always try with lime or blackcurrant.

Nospringchickendipper · 09/10/2022 15:23

I found that most non alcoholic wines where not great but non alcoholic Prosecco and beers where at least drinkable.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 09/10/2022 15:24

I'd love to know if such a thing exists! I drink Gordon’s AF gin and it's very good but all the wines I've tried were grim.

womaninatightspot · 09/10/2022 15:26

You want to get dealchoholised wine. Starts off as regular wine and they remove the alcohol but you still get the flavour as opposed to non alcoholic wine which is all grape juice to me. There is still some alcohol in it but it’s like a quarter of a unit per bottle which I was ok with.

Mylittlesandwich · 09/10/2022 15:27

I like this and find it the most realistic www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/295188435

Takingturnstogether · 09/10/2022 15:28

Freixenet. I like it but am not keen on Schloer.

Tiredofthisshite · 09/10/2022 15:29

Nosecco is a pretty good non alcoholic prosecco

SavoirFlair · 09/10/2022 15:32

🙄

eish · 09/10/2022 15:32

I agree about nosecco. I also like Real drinks which are a kombucha drink which is nice. Also agree about non alcoholic wines, plus botanical from m and s which isn't a gin but feels quite grown up. I haven't found a good non alcoholic wine yet!

VeryQuaintIrene · 09/10/2022 15:33

Freixenet is definitely the best I've had. Fre Merlot isn't horrible either. But I agree that enjoyable NA beer is easier to find.

Rocklobstershell · 09/10/2022 15:35

I think alcohol free beers are better for that refreshing dry taste. I like Brew Dog’s Nanny State.

Yetanothernamechangeagain · 09/10/2022 15:36

Scavi and Ray non alcoholic prosecco. I had it in a Michelin starred restaurant and it is the best I’ve tried

TheSecretaryBird · 09/10/2022 15:37

There was an interview on Radio 4 last week with a lady who founded a company called Noughty alcohol free wine. More expensive than some others but apparently worth it. The program was an interesting listen as well

Purplecatshopaholic · 09/10/2022 15:37

Nosecco or Sainsburys AF fizzy wine taste pretty close to the real thing. I have never found a decent AF white wine, sadly. I like Becks Blue or Erdinger, both AF beers and very drinkable.

DramaAlpaca · 09/10/2022 15:39

AF beers are often very drinkable. Unlike a pp I think Gordon's AF gin is plain nasty.

I don't mind McGuigan AF white or rose, and there's a very nice French one but I can't for the life of me remember its name. None of the above have a Schloer taste at all. I find white AF wines to be much more palatable than red.

Oblomov22 · 09/10/2022 15:40

Haven't been able to find one yet. Dry low alcohol ones are equally impossible.

Ihaveamagicwand · 09/10/2022 15:42

There was a piece on You and Yours on Radio 4 last Thursday at 12.04 about Noughty alcohol free wine. It is de-alcoholised wine producing sparkling rosé and Chardonnay and a still red.

It was an interview with the female CEO and she was saying how they started, had won awards and were expanding their business exporting to 45 other countries.
You can catch it on BBC Sounds app at present.

Dovana · 09/10/2022 15:44

Noughty Prosecco is decent.

There aren’t any good AF wines.

AF beer is the way to go.

Ihaveamagicwand · 09/10/2022 15:44

Great minds think alike Secretary Bird!! Agree it was an interesting listen.

oopsfellover · 09/10/2022 15:46

Following with interest as also wondering if there’s any drinkable AF wine. Can’t stand nosecco. As Pp have said there are
some nice AF lagers and ales, also Guinness if you like it. I also like AF Tanqueray.

HashtagShitShop · 09/10/2022 15:47

Tescos own brand cheap non alcoholic wines are really nice and whilst not the most realistic they're still worth it. They were like 2.50 a bottle but haven't bought any yet this year so may have gone up

Nozeco white is nice imo for a fizzy prosecco like drink . The rose version not so much.

Jules912 · 09/10/2022 15:50

I've never find one, but DH introduced me to Big Drop AF beers which are pretty good.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/10/2022 15:58

Non alcoholic Guinness is bloody lovely by the way! Best non alcoholic beer I've had.

Hall84 · 09/10/2022 16:05

The non alcoholic Freixenet, Hardy's white wine was the best of the bunch but wouldn't touch the red with a barge pole. If you like g&t/cocktails then perhaps look at Seedlip. I wasn't keen on the garden one but the spice/citrus ones were good either with tonic and the garnish or some of the fancier mixes
