To just want to find a non-alcoholic wine that doesn't taste like shloer?!

20 weeks pregnant, missing wine so much. Every non-alcoholic one I've tried tastes like shloer.

Does a 'realistic' one exist? Or do I admit defeat and wait until baby is here...

Tesco do quite a nice non-alcoholic rosé called Eisburg which I liked when pregnant.

Sciurus83 · 09/10/2022 16:11

Yep it's the Freixenet fizzy, others all a bit rubbish. There are some really nice alcohol free gin type things, Sea Arch

TheFormidableMrsC · 09/10/2022 16:29

I really like Sainsburys own zero alcohol rose although I don't actually like normal rose wine. I also like Becks Blue with a lemonade top. McGuigan wines do a palatable white alcohol free.

HighlandPony · 09/10/2022 16:34

Defeat. I can recommend you some that don’t taste like shloer but they do taste like ribena and soda water which is just as rank. Try non alcoholic fruit ciders.

FiveGreenBottles · 09/10/2022 17:37

Save your money OP, I love white wine and all fizzy versions thereof but the low/no alcohol wines taste awful.

I recommend super chilled lemon Perrier (if you can find it or lemon slices in Perrier) as a Cava substitute. Diluted Grapefruit juice is my go to alternative to Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Cuck00soup · 09/10/2022 17:38

Has anyone ever found a non-alcoholic red that doesn't taste like thin, vinegary Ribera?

I tried macguigan because Good Housekeeping Magazine recommended it. Reader, they lied, it's just as bad as eveything else.

I don't mind non-alcoholic cider though, have you tried that OP?

violetcuriosity · 09/10/2022 17:39

Thank you so much for your replies! The post was slightly tongue in cheek (slightly) 🤣 obviously I'm very grateful to be pregnant but I just miss wine and the social aspect of drinking it. I will try the noughty one and some of the others but also save my money for some lovely New Zealand Sauvignon once they're here 😄

I had one called Ein Zwei Drei in a pub the other day which wasn’t bad.

But agree with the recommendation for Big Drop beers, especially the Citra.

Also recommend bitter orange Monin syrup with tonic and a couple of drops of butters.

expandabandband · 09/10/2022 17:43

Bitters

Lyre's prosecco is amazing! It was the only thing I found during pregnancy that tasted close to the real thing, without that overly sweet flavour that a lot of the others have. And they make spirits too, they do a good fake Aperol! Highly recommend.

Every non alcoholic wine made me throw up so gave up and celebrated after my babies arrived x

Newmum738 · 10/10/2022 20:36

There is loads of great AF wine on the market now. M&S do a good red and rose (not tried the white). Morrisons have a great AF section with good wines. McGuigan AF wines are good. And Freixenet do a good AF sparking. So much choice these days!

TheGlitterFairy · 10/10/2022 21:09

I didn’t manage to find a non alcoholic wine that I liked when pg; settled for some of the AF beers that have been mentioned or seedlip and tonic/ some of the flavoured tonics. Ultimately I got fed up of that too and just had fizzy water then very much enjoyed a glass of champagne when we got DS home a couple of weeks after he was born (preemie).

Darbs76 · 10/10/2022 21:11

No, none of the non alcoholic wines taste like wine. The beers and ciders are better

My OH has found a red he quite likes with dinner
wisebartender.co.uk/jose-maria-da-fonseca-original-syrah-alcohol-free-red-wine-05abv-14563-p.asp
Has a reasonably rounded deep flavour.

Nat6999 · 10/10/2022 22:27

I like the McGuigan Rose, it tastes just like Zinfandel.

ExcaliburBaby · 10/10/2022 22:29

I love the 2 (white & Rose) that the co-op do. It’s not quite no alcohol - there’s 0.4 units in a bottle.

grownup2 · 10/10/2022 22:31

And I second the Real Royal Flush kombucha. We tried it with friends and everyone found it delicious and festive - definitely not sickly sweet. Slightly preferred it to Noughty sparkling, which was also good.

EmilyBrontesaurus · 10/10/2022 22:34

They're all shit ime. AF prosecco and beer are pretty good though.

I craved a specific cocktail when I was pregnant with one of mone. At weird times of the day, like first thing in the morning on the train to work or something, so I feel your pain!

WombatStewForTea · 10/10/2022 22:49

Most of them taste like absolute shite.
The Freixenet fizzy is the only one worth touching

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 10/10/2022 23:28

M & S Rose . Delicious. Grin
