I'm panicking a bit as I've had a drink tonight (just one medium glass of wine) and I've just taken my prescription sleeping tablet without thinking (promethazine). I'm on my own with a baby tonight. Was this a stupid idea?? I'm massively panicking after a quick google told me I could end up unconscious?! I'm a highly anxious person please don't judge me 😞

Ask 111

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 07/10/2022 21:00

You'll be okay- I've done this, although admittedly not with a baby. Problem will be if they're new tablets and you have no tolerance to them. Can you set a series of very loud (also vibratey) phone alarms for throughout the night and keep it next to you head?

RIPQueen · 07/10/2022 21:00

How old is the baby?! How well do they sleep?

sittingonacornflake · 07/10/2022 21:01

Also is there someone, a friend or family member who can come straight over? Leave your front door unlocked for them in case you pass out.

If not, possibly alert a neighbour that you might need help with baby whilst you wait for medical assistance?

EmmaH2022 · 07/10/2022 21:01

Call 111 just in case but if it helps, I’ve had a few drinks and a prescription sleeper or tranquiliser and only got a couple of hours kip.

NotJustAnybody · 07/10/2022 21:01

How well do the sleeping tablets work? How young is the baby? Is there anyone that can stay the night to listen out for the baby if you're out of it!

sourtoot · 07/10/2022 21:01

I think you'll be ok, it's one glass of wine. Have plenty of water and just let someone local to you know.

whattheactualfuckisgoingon · 07/10/2022 21:02

Baby is 17 months and mostly sleeps through but will wake occasionally in the night. I feel really stupid now. I didn't think before I took the tablet on autopilot

Just ask a friend or relative to come over.

Doggosforever · 07/10/2022 21:03

putting to one side the alcohol - if you take a sleeping tablet anyway wouldn’t that stop yiu from waking up for the baby?

Don’t leave the door unlocked! What if you pass out and there’s an intruder?

Sharpkat · 07/10/2022 21:04

What dose of promethazine?

EmmaH2022 · 07/10/2022 21:04

Agree.

whattheactualfuckisgoingon · 07/10/2022 21:05

No with the sleeping tablet I still wake when i hear DD crying. It just means I drift off more easily and don't lie there with anxious thoughts for hours before I sleep, but it doesn't stop me hearing her cry if she wakes. I'm worried the alcohol on top will make a difference. There's no one I can ask to come over, my family aren't local

What dose of promethazine?

25mg

You'll be fine. I took Promethazine for years and often with much more than one glass of wine.

EmmaH2022 · 07/10/2022 21:05

DenholmElliot1 · 07/10/2022 21:03

Just ask a friend or relative to come over.

Goodness, you make that sound so easy. I don’t think most people have help on hand like that.

Golaz · 07/10/2022 21:06

You’ll be absolutely fine. Baby is not that young. If she screams I’m sure you’ll wake. Just don’t co-sleep. Otherwise you are over thinking it. Have a lovely nights rest xxx

Oh phew! Hopefully I'll be ok then.

How long ago did you have the wine? Id deffo give someone a ring, maybe they could even phone you during the night to check you wake up okay? I wouldn't leave the door unlocked no way.

RIPQueen · 07/10/2022 21:07

Bbay monitor on loud next to your ear?! Doors open? Baby cot next to your bed?

Devon01 · 07/10/2022 21:07

If you've only had one small drink then I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe sleep in same room (not same bed) as DC just so you're more likely to hear if they wake crying. Make sure you're steady on your feet when first waking during night and wanting to pick them up. Drink plenty of water

prinad · 07/10/2022 21:08

Yes I've done this too and didn't see any unusual effects

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 07/10/2022 21:08

Obviously you shouldn’t take any advice from me but I know this panic (on a more serious scale) and I will say that I used to take 20mg and melatonin after a few wines. It was fine.

I wouldn’t be so blasé if it was zopiclone or a benzo, etc. but I used to use promethazine instead of zopiclone specifically when I had had a drink and couldn’t take one of them. And I would have woken for a baby just fine (although you might be more affected by them than me obviously).

Try not to panic. And call 111 if you’re really worried obviously.

whattheactualfuckisgoingon · 07/10/2022 21:08

Baby monitor is right by my head. Always is. I always hear her so fingers crossed it will be fine
