Well I love ed Sheeran and can't stand Marvin Gaye, so ......

(Also, can't see too much similarity to b fair!!)

StandingInTheMoment · 30/09/2022 14:06

I love Ed. I feel sorry for him having to go through another one of these cases, hearing him talk about the other case, it’s clear it took its toll. Another one looking to make some money from Ed’s talent I think.

blockpavingismynightmare · 30/09/2022 14:08

Ed Sheerin has form for this. He is a music magpie

OhmygodDont · 30/09/2022 14:10

I mean surely all songs eventually are going to sound the same as some parts of other songs? There are only so many words, so many beats, so many stories to tell. A lot of songs these days seem to be new songs with bits from old songs.

I don’t get it.

OhmygodDont · 30/09/2022 14:14

also he won his shape of you court case where the other people tried to called him a magpie.

Musti · 30/09/2022 14:16

I’m not a musician but to me they sound very different

Theres a lot of song writers/musicians that agree and supported Ed last time. Hopefully he’ll win this case as well, very tiresome though.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 30/09/2022 14:25

All of his songs sound the same regardless. He's like a modern day Stock Aitken and Waterman Confused

AmberGer · 30/09/2022 14:26

Not a fan of his personally but as much as I can see a slight familiarity (beat/tempo) the rest is very different.

Florenz · 30/09/2022 14:30

Marvin Gaye's family also sued Robin Thicke over that Blurred Lines song. I think all these lawsuits over vague similarities between songs are ridiculous.

TootsAtOwls · 30/09/2022 14:32

It had a similar kind of vibe to it but that doesn't count as plagiarism!

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 30/09/2022 14:36

Oh FFS this is pathetic! Didn't Marvin Gaye's family make enough money from saying Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke sounded like Marvin's song Got to give it up ?! It sounded fuck-all like it to me, but the Gaye family won the case!

As the host of the show said on this clip, LOADS of songs sound a little tiny bit like others. Even so, I can't see Thinking Out Loud, and Let's Get It On sound remotely alike! So they're the same tempo. Big deal.

This is just a case of parasites and money grabbers trying to make money out of Ed Sheeran. I REALLY hope they lose!

blockpavingismynightmare · 30/09/2022 14:39

Of course Blurred Lines was a rip off ! You only had to listen once to see !

Ed Sheerin churns the songs out these days. He has a tried and tested method where he picks up things from other artistes in the same way lady gaga does.

His stuff is boring

TheYearOfSmallThings · 30/09/2022 14:40

I don't hear any striking similarity. Ed Sheeran writes SO MANY SONGS...some of them are bound to remind someone of some other song.

RoseOud · 30/09/2022 14:41

I was a big fan of Marvin Gaye back in the day, and I remember the first time I heard Blurred Lines on the radio I thought it was a cover version of Got To Give It Up, then I heard the words and realised it wasn't but I thought it really sounded the same.

CandyLeBonBon · 30/09/2022 14:42

I really can't hear the similarity at all!

No it wasn't. It sounded shag all like Marvin Gaye's song!

Marvin has been gone a long time he won't be earning any money.

MissingNashville · 30/09/2022 14:44

I’m a huge fan of Ed’s, I listen to his music a lot and don’t hear this at all. Presuming you’re not a fan so will most likely be talking about his most well known song’s played a lot on radio, which ones sound similar? Thinking out Loud, Perfect, Sing, Shape of You, Castle On the Hill, The A Team, Lego House ...which ones sound similar? I think you need your hearing checked. 😂

His family will. As I said, were they not satisfied with the 7 million $$$ they got from Robin Thicke? Hmm

This isn't Marvin Gaye's family suing this time, it's the investors who bought part of the rights to his co-writer's copyright.

Exactly. He might not be everyone’s favourite but it’s silly to say his songs all sound the same. 🙄

They're not suing Sheeran, though presumably if the investors win this case they would be able to get a payout for Gaye's half of the copyright.
