I could become a granny and that seems all kinds of wrong! I’m YOUNG!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I was 22 when my eldest son was born and now HE is 22 (dear lord!) and I can’t imagine him being a parent!

is it inevitable that we see our own children as β€œkids”?

my youngest son is five, so I’ve been in the thick of parenting really all my adult life (I have other children between the eldest and littlest).

I just struggle with the idea I might be Granny soon and can hardly object!

I know what you mean Grin
I was 24 having my first (had four) and my DD2 had her son at 27... and it still felt to me like she was too young !
(which was a) ridiculous and b) she's a more competent person than I have ever been... she's an awesome Mum!)

However I can tell you now that being a Granny is THE BEST THING EVER! (I'm lucky that my dd2 stayed local to me so I do lots of Granny care) All the love, with less stress.

But no I still don't REALLY see my grown up kids as grownups :) My eldest is a doctor and yet in my head she's still about 14...

serenghetti2011 · 18/09/2022 13:54

Also had first at 22 he’s 21 now though and no thoughts of being a grandparent, don’t really want any for a while as younger kids are 11/12 then 17 so pretty much over little kids now I’m tired so eldest needn’t bother thinking he can start reproducing any time soon!

wonder if I will ever be ready to be a grandparent, do hope they wait quite a few years (at least 10)

CathyTre · 18/09/2022 13:55

I’m so glad it’s not just me! My eldest is very capable too! I also think my eldest still needs me to do life admin for him… and he really doesn’t!

I guess this means we’ve been successful patents, in that they’ve flown the nest but are still close?

I had my eldest at 15, he is now 26 Grin luckily no babies on the horizon anytime soon!

PumpkinSeason · 18/09/2022 14:00

Had my son at 16.
He is now 16 and both he and I readily admit he couldn't even keep a plant alive! πŸ˜„

Hoping not to become a granny for at least another 10 years!

switswoo81 · 18/09/2022 14:03

I'm 41 with an 81 year old grandmother . I bucked the trend though. I have a 3 year old at the age she became a grandmother. I can't imagine it !

LosttheremoteAGAIN · 18/09/2022 14:05

I had my first at 19 and fuck me,ther thought of her having one at that age scared the hell out of me
my son is 22-at his age I had 3-I’m so lucky he’s only got a dog

i hope they’ll make me a granny in about ten years or so-if not longer

FlibbertyGibbitt · 18/09/2022 14:17

My eldest (28) has just become a dad , so I’m a nanny at 56. Feels far too young 🀣🀣 but the best thing ever. My grand child is beautiful πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

Thealarmhasgoneoffagain · 18/09/2022 14:20

I'm 42.
My mum had me at 17 so by that logic, I could have a 25 year old child who has an 8 year old.
I hope to be a granny at some point but not for a long time yet, let alone a great grandma! 🀣

Georgeskitchen · 18/09/2022 14:30

I became a granny at 54. 7 years ago . Being a granny is the best thing ever. If you think you couldn't love another child with the intensity of love for your own, think again!!
Being a younger granny has its advantages, you have more energy to play games and they will have you in their life for longer. I want to be around forever for my grandchildren 🀣πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ€©πŸ˜‚

neveradullmoment99 · 18/09/2022 14:32

I had my children at 19 and 21. I became a gran at 50! I dot feel that it's really too young. I could have been a gran a lot earlier!

Berlinlover · 18/09/2022 14:35

I’m 46 and have a 14 year old step grandson and 10 year old step granddaughter.

DreadingWinter · 18/09/2022 14:40

My DS was 22 when he became a dad. It's great to be a young grandparent.

Marvellousmadness · 18/09/2022 14:47

Lets hope you dont become a grandma just yet
Your 20s should be the best decade of your life .. not being stuck looking after a baby πŸ˜…

Summersdreaming · 18/09/2022 14:52

I had dd at 17, she's 13 soon and I'm hoping she does NOT make me a nana before I'm 35!! It's my biggest fear, she won't remember the bloody hard years when she was small.

MumsHairnet · 18/09/2022 14:57

I used to work with a woman who became a grandma at 37 when her youngest child was 8 both her and her daughter wanted children young all very happy.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 18/09/2022 15:00

Thinking about it, I was only speaking about me but my Mum was a granny at 34.

CathyTre · 18/09/2022 15:02

I think I’m resigned to being a young granny, or a really old one! Depends if/when my kids have kids! Good ti hear all experiences x

I will probably be about early 70s ( about 8 years)when ds has children...dd doesn't want any. I'm not in the least bit bothered whether grandchildren happen or not

FluentlyExasperatedMadam · 18/09/2022 15:04

I'm 34 and my eldest is 18! I had him at 16 so I'm pleased he didn't follow suit and make me a 32yr old granny.

mamabear715 · 18/09/2022 15:07

@PumpkinSeason My daughter is the same! Poor Marcus (her plant) is either drowning or parched.. :-)

CathyTre · 18/09/2022 15:09

Good point AuntieMarys. Maybe none of my sons will be fathers!

I had my eldest at 19. I became a granny when I was 44. Felt too young then and even now, two yrs later, with 3 grandchildren I still feel too young. πŸ˜‚

CathyTre · 18/09/2022 15:15

I think it’s that my own youngest is only five that makes it seem weird!
