To think some senior managers are dumb fucks?

Every manager I have ever had has just failed to use their common sense. And asking questions when they already know the answer or the answer is plainly obvious to them. It just pisses me off, sorry at the end of my tether after today

This is just some things, they do other things too that make them dumb fucks

If it's every manager you've ever had I doubt it's them that's the problem.

Yabu this is a you problem

Toottooot · 17/09/2022 17:55

Why don’t you do the job then since you’re much more competent? 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a senior manager myself, I would say that I have so many conversations that sometimes I need to remind myself of what we're doing. It doesn't mean I'm incompetent, It means I have head space limitations.

Yeah I agree, if this keeps happening to you, I doubt it's the managers who are the problem.

Unbridezilla · 17/09/2022 17:57

They probably have different perspectives and priorities to you, coming from needing to balance a broader range of issues, meaning what seems illogical to you isn't to the business.

Although, most senior managers that I have come across don't come across as "dumb", no.

User5422 · 17/09/2022 18:00

Never work in the Travel industry then OP. In travel it’s not just the managers who are dumb fucks, your colleagues and people on the same level/in the same role as you are dumb fucks too

User5422 · 17/09/2022 18:00

I say that from experience

StoneofDestiny · 17/09/2022 18:03

As every manager has more than likely done the job you are doing 'on the way up', it's not likely they are all dumb. (Having said that, we seem to be getting Prime Ministers who are seriously dumb!)

Dammitthisisshit · 17/09/2022 18:05

Im leadership but not senior management.

I clash with some senior managers, and have a huge amount of respect for some. even the ones that are great get things wrong, but I have enough respect for them that I’d challenge them if I thought they were wrong and it was something that affected me. As I expect to listen is someone has feedback for me.

honestly, I get that it’s a bad day so you came to rant. But I’ve never found anyone who’d describe their management team as ‘dumb fucks’ was ever easy to work with.

mackthepony · 17/09/2022 18:07

Yanbu

My boss wants us back in the office... But doesn't seem to realise he needs to have in person meetings to make it worthwhile. Otherwise it's a two hour commute to sit in front of a laptop, like I do at home.

So why aren’t you?

Aintnosupermum · 17/09/2022 18:12

This is my experience in my industry: In revenue roles the senior managers are normally very good. In operation roles the managers are wholly incompetent and need to be taken out of the gene pool. I take it you are in an ops role.

Get yourself into another area, ideally sales or direct sales support such as marketing. Far less fools in my experience.

7Worfs · 17/09/2022 18:13

I haven’t met incompetent senior managers, but plenty of mediocre ones…

The only thing I can’t abide is if they commit to a bad decision and see it through to the bitter end. Just admit it was a mistake and put us back on the right track, ffs.

5128gap · 17/09/2022 18:16

Its not the role of a senior manager to know the minutiae of everyone's job. Even if they're your line manager, they don't need to know every detail, that's what they have you for. Generally their role is to broadly oversee a number of functions with people reporting from their more detailed knowledge on the area they're responsible for. They often don't have technical expertise either. This why sometimes their questions seem obvious and basic to staff.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 17/09/2022 18:17

I used to work with the most amazing bunch of directors and senior managers. New ceo started (he’s nice enough) and has replaced all the senior managers with utter arses - back stabbing, disrespectful bunch of unaware pricks. After 7 years of living my job I’m miserable and I’m tears twice a week. The impact the senior managers have on morale should never be underestimated. I’m trying to look for alternative roles but I’m not near a city so my options are limited. I’ll keep looking for now.

OfficiallyBroken · 17/09/2022 18:19

My guess is you work somewhere that has too many managers full stop.

For years my company had a bloated senior team and the half that weren't useless truly couldn't care less because they saw people on equal seniority/salaries achieving fuck all and being rewarded for it so completely lost their motivation.

Then we got a competent CEO. They pared back the management to the bone. Now the folk on eye watering salaries are suddenly responsible and answerable to the upper echelons of the company along with us normal folk. The change is incredible.

Not all senior managers are dumb as fuck, but an awful lot of them have forgotten how they reached those roles and how to keep forging ahead in competence and confidence.

It's fucking difficult to keep going when you feel like you're dealing with someone who has the thinking capacity of a brick but is senior to you.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 17/09/2022 18:19

Loving my job not living although because I loved it it was part of everything I do. I’m waiting for our team roles to be set but think it’s likely I’ll just piss everyone off by walking out the door at 5pm each day. New team culture is to work 8am-10pm even though we’re paid 9-5.
