AIBU?

To be sadder about Eddie Butler than the Queen? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just heard the news that Eddie Butler has died in his sleep while on a trek in Peru. Raising money for prostate cancer. Only 65.

Now he is someone that^^ I really will miss. The voice of so many rugby matches as well as many other occasions which required the gravitas that he could bring to voiceovers. Only yesterday a segment about Westminster Hall was played on the BBC with him doing the voiceover. A sad day. 😢

I agree with you.

I was sadder about Mrs McClusky.

Fair enough. I think the link explains it if you can be bothered to click it.

You can be as sad or as not sad as you like. The Queens passing was natural and of old age. I always think that someone who had such a long life should be celebrated rather than mourned IYSWIM

YANBU. I had to Google him but that sounds like sad circumstances.

I have been upset by some celebrity deaths but the Queen? Not really.

Olivia Newton-John’s death brought a tear to my eye and did make me reflect back to my childhood/teenhood.
The Queen - not so much (putting it politely)

You can be as sad as you like about whoever, it's not a competition. Sometimes we are more affected by a celebrity's death for a certain reason. I was shocked and saddened when Olivia Newton John died from breast cancer, but that is because I had breast cancer 9 years ago.

Oh I'd missed this news, sad to see he has passed away.

6 Nations commentary won't be the same! A former Wales captain too.

I'm waiting for someone else who is Welsh to come along and back me up on this. He was a legend, taken far too soon. I'm sure even if you don't know his name, you would recognise his voice from many major sporting and national, occasions.

Here's one example

I am very sad about Eddie, not bothered about the Queen. I will miss him so much during the Six Nations. He was relatively young too.

I'm not Welsh but you're right - he was really well known and it's very sad.

I met him once at a rugby charity dinner. He kissed me on the cheek. Such a lovely man.

He was a legend. I’m English and he really was a rugby legend. RIP Eddie.

Well, I'm English, living in Wales, but I'll back you up on that.

I'll really miss his voice. He and Brian Moore together were one of the joys of rugby on TV.

I once met Eddie Butler at a christingle service at a tiny church in the Monmouthshire countryside. (He wasn't the only TV person there, surprisingly, but my ds stole the show by falling down the chancel steps carrying a flaming orange)

@BobinogBobbleHat my friend lived next door to him when he lived in Monmouthshire. He was a lovely neighbour by all accounts.

Rugby commentary will never be the same without him.
He had a magnificent voice for broadcasting and his partnership with Brian Moore was the best.

I'm half Welsh and I'm here. I was shocked. 65 is young 96 is not. On age alone his death is sadder but he was bloody lovely.

It doesn't mean the Queen's death isn't sad but Eddie's is far sadder to me.
