To be worried about cat flees in my suitcase and going away tomorrow?

Hi, my cat turns out has flees. I found out today and this is something I've never experienced before,

Last night she was laying over my clothes to pack for holiday and I then put them into my suitcase with all the other clothes. Therefore my suitcase would now be infested with cat flees,

I go on holiday tomorrow there is no way I would have time to wash everything in there.

Is it something to be concerned about, do I need to do anything (other than treat the flees obviously) but I'm worried about the clothes in my suitcase?

Sorry I know this is probably sounding ridiculous but I'm worried

Yes, flea infestation spreads like wildfire. The fleas in your case will come with you on holiday and then infest your holiday place.

Can you get some flea spray and flea bomb your case and clothes? I really wouldn't recommend taking a suitcase full of fleas with you

Oh shit I am so stressed by this - what is the worst flees can do to humans?

@Justcallmebebes isn't flee spray going to make all my clothes smell?

I don't know what's best - to wash all the clothes or just spray them with flee spray

Yeah I'd be worried about that too. They're pretty likely to be in your case all ready for their travels!
You really need to sort this today OP. Still time to flea bomb your house and case. Quick Google to find local stockists. Get your hoilday clothes on the line and spray them individually.
Also you don't want to leave them untreated in your home whilst you're away of you will come back to a huge infestation.

daysayso · 15/09/2022 11:10

@BeenHereForYonkyDoodles oh ffs so do I need to wash my clothes too? I can't believe this I fly tomorrow and I'm at work today and tomorrow morning this is the worst - shit holiday before it's even begun I'm gutted

Treat the cat and the house and put your clothes in the tumble dryer. That should remove the fleas.

I use advantage flea drops for the cat, and Indorex spray is excellent for house infestations.

daysayso · 15/09/2022 11:11

I haven't got a tumble dryer and a lot of my clothes are dry clean

No need to worry at all. Just go to a pharmacy, but some flea spray and use it on everything. Hang your clothes outside as has been suggested, that'll get rid of the smell.

Don't waste your money on supermarket flea spray btw, get it from a pharmacy.

ElusiveWhale · 15/09/2022 11:13

buy some flea spray

GreenManalishi · 15/09/2022 11:15

Hang the clothes on hangers, (put cat out) set a flea bomb when you go to work in the morning. Up your game with treating the cat regularly with a flea treatment from the vet.

Indorex. You van get it next day delivery from amazon. Put your suitcase in a room. Open it. Spray the room and over the suitcase. Close the door. Leave it for a few hours. It will kill any fleas

They can be very harmful to vulnerable humans

OP goes away tomorrow, but pharmacies sell the full strength sprays, as do most vets.

DuvetHugger · 15/09/2022 11:21

Indorex for sure. It's about a tenner for a can. spray the clothes, spray the house. Flea the cat. job done. Maybe even pop a few flea collars in the suit case for good measure lol Indorex works FAST

Rhythmisadancer · 15/09/2022 11:22

If you react to the bites they are the most annoying itchy bites ever, and you will scratch them till they bleed resulting in minging looking scabs and possibly scars. DD and I both react like this, whereas DH and DS don't react at all, and don't know if they've been bitten or not. Indorex for clothes / carpet etc, vets for drops for cat.

BobbysGirly · 15/09/2022 11:24

Take your clothes out of the suitcase and let a flea bomb off

CeeceeBloomingdale · 15/09/2022 11:24

I’d do nothing at all if you are flying and checking the case, the temperature of the hold will kill them

Bouncealot · 15/09/2022 11:26

Infotech from your local vet. Spray on yr cloths and in case. It’s brill and safe when dry.

Bouncealot · 15/09/2022 11:27

Indorex not infotecsorry!

Reallyreallyborednow · 15/09/2022 11:32

i’d put a spot on the cat now, that way everything will have gone when you get back.

as for your clothes, live fleas only last about 24 hours, so you’ll be fine.

nip to a chemist and get a pack of antihistamine and a tube of anthisan bite cream, if you do get bitten you can sort it.

fleas aren’t a massive problem, if you keep up to date with the cat treatment they can’t live anywhere.

btw- flee means run away, it’s flea.

bogoblin · 15/09/2022 11:44

Big yes to Indorex. I'd give your suitcase a good hoover and spray as well

ImIntaDouchingMyself · 15/09/2022 11:54

Take the clothes out shake them out hang them, treat the cat then put outdoors and set a flea bomb off in the house. Afterwards hoover everywhere including inside your suitcase and you'll be fine.

daysayso · 15/09/2022 18:13

Can I not just spray the clothes while I y eh suitcase?
