To think Bedlington Terriors are the cutest dog?

Whenever I look at these dogs I start laughing. Is it just me who thinks they are severely underrated? I have a greyhound but I feel like they get some love.

Surely laughing at them means they're funny-looking, not cute! I mean... they're ok - I like pretty much any dog. But Bedlington terriers would be very low down my scale of dog cuteness tbh.

RaininSummer · 13/09/2022 22:33

They look like small sheep not dogs to me.

TheUsualChaos · 13/09/2022 22:35

They are lovely dogs but I hate seeing them clipped like that, they look so much nicer with their normal coats!

Boxin · 13/09/2022 22:36

Cute little lambs Smile. Generally nice dogs too, I’m not sure why they aren’t more
popular.
Most dogs are cute though of course!

XenoBitch · 13/09/2022 22:36

My mum had a Bedlington cross (so a lurcher).
She was an absolute cow!

I think Sealyham Terriers are the cutest!

Furnitureflipper · 13/09/2022 22:37

They are very sweet natured.

Zampa · 13/09/2022 22:38

They are gorgeous and the dog I would pick if DH would get on board. I'd call mine Timmy.

So it was crossed with a sight hound ? What a random mix!

sevenbyseven · 13/09/2022 22:42

Bedlington terriers look very odd with a traditional show cut. I like them a lot more unclipped or more natural.

Bretonbear · 13/09/2022 22:43

I want one and want to call her Lamb. I've loved them forever!!

She was a Bedlington and a whippet cross. I think that a working dog + sighthound = lurcher

She was gorgeous but she knew it!

megletthesecond · 13/09/2022 22:44

See also Dandie Dinmonts. Adorable little things when they're clipped.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/09/2022 22:45

I once met a lovely one in a pub and wanted to steal him. So sweet and friendly! 😍

Beddlingtons have been crossed with sight hounds for a very, very long time. They're used as rabbiting dogs because of the combination of speed and prey drive for small ferries.

We have a beddlington x greyhound (so a lurcher). She's the gentlest most affectionate dog in the world. Remarkably cunning and stubborn as a mule. Insists on sitting on your lap of an evening despite being massive. Best dog ever.

I think Hungarian Pumi take Bedlingtons up a notch to cartoon cuteness.

Franticbutterfly · 13/09/2022 22:48

I don't like them at all. My children see one around where we live and say hey look at that goat-dog (not to the owner).

Ouch! lol

My mum now has a greyhound... after years of saying she wanted a whippet size hound.

megletthesecond · 13/09/2022 22:57

Oh my God. I want a Pumi now 😍.

TashieWoo · 13/09/2022 22:59

We had bedlingtons growing up and bred a litter of 6 pedigree puppies when I was 12, they are lovely little dogs and I’d have another one tomorrow.

Maya, our first bedlington and mum to the puppies, didn’t like strangers much and was a bit grumpy but loved her family - she didn’t leave my side when I had an operation and had to stay at home for 2 weeks recovering afterwards.

Throughabushbackwards · 13/09/2022 23:12

We have a bedlington poodle cross. He's the best dog we've ever had. So willing, trainable and clever!

hedgehogscrossing · 13/09/2022 23:21

@userxx Bedlington x whippet is pretty common cross, (traditional gypsy dog) we have a 14 week old and although im obviously bias she is amazingly clever and cute! She doesn't shed which I didn't realise until we had her about a week and suddenly realised my bed wasn't covered in dog hair!

The terrier in her seems strong even though it is only 1/4, she does not give up once she gets an idea into her head. I would love to see an unclipped Bedlington, I thought that the funny head shape was natural.

Jellywobblescobbles · 13/09/2022 23:22

I think they are adorable.

userxx · 14/09/2022 18:30

@BeatieBourke No way!! I didn't realise that's how the scruffy lurcher came about! I've learnt something new today.
