To feel a weird feeling this time of year…

I love September and actually love Autumn, when it properly kicks in, but feel slightly odd at the moment…this in between stage from the crazy rush of summer and people. It feels quite eerie in a strange way, I appreciate the calm but felt quite lonely the last few days 🤷🏻‍♀️
Not sure if I’m just being crazy

Anyone else?

I have been feeling the same recently. I think its to do with the kids going back to school and that routine, as well as change of season. We're kind of waiting for autumn to start.

Notimeforaname · 12/09/2022 19:43

Book a holiday or weekend away. I try to do that for all the season changes. Like you, I get a weird feeling but that's usually in anticipation for the next season. Do you only have this from Summer to Autumn or at other times too?

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 12/09/2022 19:44

Oh my god, I have this right now. It makes no sense as I like when the nights draw in! But some sort of weird melancholy is scratching at the door.

I thought it was maybe because this time last year I was very, very heartbroken but - aside from being totally over that now - actually, even then I found the seasons changing a solace and found comfort in the cosiness.

Anyway, all that is to say, you’re not alone! But I can’t figure out why!

Isitjustmeee · 12/09/2022 19:47

@TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz Yes, that’s the perfect way to describe it-like a weird melancholy is scratching at the door!

@Notimeforaname 🤔 I’m not sure, I don’t recall having it from spring to summer…possibly winter to spring, I love the arrival of spring, but also find the change of it strange in a way…perhaps I’m just sensitive to season changes, that seems a bit odd though!

Maybe it’s the nations mourning affecting you subconsciously

Isitjustmeee · 12/09/2022 19:50

@MichaelAndEagle Yes, it could be that it’s all back to routine etc, which can be depressing really..I’m not sure though, just an odd feeling. I tend to miss summer but I am a person who embraces autumn and the cosy nights and tv and the run up to Xmas, no idea why it all feels a bit odd

OP posts:
Isitjustmeee · 12/09/2022 19:51

@LampLighter414 I started to feel it lightly before that though, so I’m not sure

I do feel the Queen's death has sliced autumn from summer more decisively than the division usually feels. It's as if one minute we were enjoying heatwaves and planning where to go in the sunshine and now we're full on autumn mode with blankets on the sofa.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/09/2022 19:54

A lot of people I know seem to be on edge. I think it’s a lot to do with the state of the world and all the negativity. Feels a really odd time. I normally love September too.

BigEnergy · 12/09/2022 19:54

Yes I feel like this, feeling very weirdly restless and usually I'm quite contented. I keep looking at city breaks wondering if I can afford to go somewhere to shake myself up a bit and get myself out of this weird state!

idonotmind · 12/09/2022 19:55

Yeah same here.

It's like there's a jinx in the matrix at the moment tbh - it's hot where we are but the leaves are turning?

I just want it to be cooler!

Pie and crumble.... droool..

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 12/09/2022 19:56

Isitjustmeee · 12/09/2022 19:51

Same for me. It’s been going on for at least a week.

It’s definitely about the seasons changing or the days getting shorter. But not in the traditional sense - I actually love the dark, enjoy getting my coats out (the novelty wears off mid-November mind) and I don’t suffer from SAD.

I’m just surprised to find someone who understands what I mean!

Whataday247 · 12/09/2022 19:57

I always feel like this at this time of year. I kind of feel depressed and sad every year. I think it’s a mix of summer over, children going back to school and myself going back to work (I’m a teacher) and the children are another year older. I think I have SAD.

70billionthnamechange · 12/09/2022 20:00

I blame the spiders. They ruin September for me

carefullycourageous · 12/09/2022 20:01

I think it has been a heavy-going summer, we had horrible heatwaves, these droughts and also the lack of PM (well, we had one but he was on his jollies) and the dreaded Tory leadership contest. On top of the war in Ukraine and looming energy bills.

And now the death of the Queen and the change of PM in the same week, it feels like there is nothing left and not much to look forward to?

Sorry to be depressing, I think what I am trying to say is it hasn't been a normal summer --> autumn transition.

I'm focusing on Christmas Grin

Blueeyedgirl21 · 12/09/2022 20:03

Omg OP I feel the same ! Its like a weird empty feeling I’d describe it. Like you’re lonely but not alone. I have a week away booked next week with my parents my baby dd and dp which I’m looking forward to, but I’m hoping it shakes me out of this funk or I’ll be no good to anyone! I’m stressing about what to take to wear as well as in this sort of weather all I can think of is jeans, t shirts and converse as it’s not hot enough for sandals and dresses but not jumper and coat weather. If anyone has any ideas on putting together outfits for a seaside trip where it’s around 19/20 every day I’d love to hear!

with the tv firmly focused on coverage of the Queen’s death as well plus the change in the weather (still warm here but very wet and cold at night) there’s a really weird feeling in the air. Dp in a funny mood since he got in from work too and barely said two words to me. I didn’t even get dressed today it rained all day and couldn’t bring myself to get the pram all set up for the rain so we had a sofa day. Baby doesn’t care obviously but she’s being fussy tonight because she’s probably under stimulated and had no fresh air today so dp keeps huffing and puffing every time She’s put down and starts crying ! I feel like popping a bottle of Cava and having chocolate and putting a silly film on tbh but I don’t think dp will be impressed as was hungover at weekend and shouldn’t really drink on a Monday 🙈😂

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 12/09/2022 20:05

shouldn’t really drink on a Monday

Who on earth told you that ‘rule’? They’re very much wrong.

ThisisCollie2022 · 12/09/2022 20:08

I feel like this. Like I'm out of sorts and in a daze.

I feel like the dreary overcast damp days have taken over my entire life and I have lost "myself"..

Just weird! So so weird. Mine predates the Queen passing away.

(I'm posting in good faith hoping this doesn't end up being a thread about water toxins like a recently deleted but similar thread)

AllThatAndMore · 12/09/2022 20:08

I always feel that way around this time of the year , especially when the weather is still warm . It’s technically still Summer but also Summer is now over 🤔! It’s sorta Fall but the weather is still warm and it’s not official until September 21.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 12/09/2022 20:08

Also we went to watch a friends cricket team play their last game of the season on Saturday, there was a weird vibe in the air then too I felt, it was very humid and wet, people were having a good time (drinking fizz!) but everyone seemed quite tired and the cricket players kept saying they couldn’t wait to end the season and how they were knackered etc. I was thinking how we have had some lovely sunny days at the cricket club this summer and it was a bit grey and anticlimactic and how we won’t be back watching a game in the sun until April and how it seemed a bit sad! I’m a right sap at the moment !

Blueeyedgirl21 · 12/09/2022 20:10

@TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz my dp is very much a weekend drinker and only on social occasions. He doesn’t like wine though so he doesn’t get the weekday wine vibe that I adore so much 🤣

HilarityEnsues · 12/09/2022 20:15

I feel like this, thought it was just me.

Twawmyarse · 12/09/2022 20:18

I always feel like this at this time of year, a bit melancholy and although I love the crispness of autumn I also dread the long dark winter as I know il probably start feeling depressed at some point, usually around January!

This humid but wet weather is very draining - it affects your equilibrium I think and we don't know whether we're coming or going or going or what to wear day to day. It's been a bit of a weird year weather-wise.

Rosewaterblossom · 12/09/2022 20:22

I've found this year it's like someone switched off summer and it got darker and rainy the next day. We had so long of bright, sunny, long days then all of a sudden the nights drew in quickly and the weather became cloudy/rainy.
