Paying for parking with the APP. And being shouted at by s stranger.

We went for a cheeky day out, found a car park and parked up.
At the pay station was one of them Q box thingies to download the info and pay.
We did it , it didn’t work and there was a gaggle of folk having the same issue.
With a bit of faffing we managed to pay.

Anyway, getting some stuff out of the boot a couple of ladies, approached me and asked how to pay for parking. I explained that after some difficulties that several people had encountered we had managed it as the board says electronically.

The weirdest thing, lady number one got really really stroppy with me. Saying that she doesn’t have a phone or computer to pay for parking. How the hell was she supposed to pay with no phone, she doesn’t own one.
She was raising her voice and really getting annoyed.
She demanded to know why she couldn’t pay with coins. I replied that I don’t know and that as far as I could see, it’s electronic payment only.
She then shouted at me, “well I’m leaving my car and don’t know what will happen”.
I was fucked off by this time at being fucking shouted at by a stranger so I said that she should expect a fine through her door, shut my boot and walked off.
WTF Is wrong with people! I don’t own the car park! I didn’t know she doesn’t have s phone! I was being helpful & chatty I thought.

AIBU to think “bay shit” lady was not right.

Why was the day out "cheeky"?

Hambledy · 10/09/2022 15:59

It was illegal. Either the OP is a fugitive from justice or she's in the UK where days out are currently banned in order that we can all appropriately mourn the late HRH.

EllieRosesMammy · 10/09/2022 15:59

Some members of the general public are very very weird. She sounds like one of them.

Sparklesocks · 10/09/2022 16:00

Sounds like she was frustrated and you were the nearest outlet to vent at. Rude of her, but very much her problem and not yours.

Hambledy · 10/09/2022 16:01

Anyway OP you were the bearer of bad news so you got the bad feeling thrown at you. She was cross, there wasn't anyone responsible around to shout at so you got it instead.

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 10/09/2022 16:01

It was very last minute planned. Hop in the car and drive kinda day.
Tea and cake was planned. Twas a day in leu payback from work. Unexpectedly.
The best kinda unexpected day!

I just knew someone would say this 🤣

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 10/09/2022 16:02

Ruined my cheeky leu day.
for about 20 minutes.

Sunnyqueen · 10/09/2022 16:04

Weird of her and rude yeah.
But why would you tell her she will get a fine though the door? As you said you don't own the car park.

Soubriquet · 10/09/2022 16:04

I do feel sorry for some people who don’t have the technology to do this.

Not everyone has access to a working mobile phone with data and some places have made it impossible to pay for for parking without it.

She has no right going off at you though

onedayiwillmissthis · 10/09/2022 16:04

YABU for calling you day out 'cheeky'

RoseBucket · 10/09/2022 16:05

Wasn’t in the Cotswolds was it, similar happened to me 😆

Rose789 · 10/09/2022 16:08

Tbh I would have just paid on the app for her. If needed take the cash from her. Wouldn’t have hurt you to be nice

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 10/09/2022 16:08

Holy cow! I knew my word lue didn’t look right!
Thanks for the right spelling, that got on my own nerves, never mind anyone else’s!

Christ I hate that expression

gettingolderandgrumpier · 10/09/2022 16:10

She was having a rant not directly at you , you just happens the be there .
people like her make me laugh don’t have a phone if you don’t want but don’t complain when it’s needed .

girlmom21 · 10/09/2022 16:10

Presumably she was ranting to you rather than having a go at you. Maybe the tone was just a bit off.

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 10/09/2022 16:12

She was just shouting at me! Really annoyed!
I was not going to mess around any longer with the bloody APP thingy.
Had she been nicer, not shouty, not annoyed then I would have offered to do it for her. Happily.
I was in a great mood, off out for tea & cake, would have done anything for any one!
Not a shouty anyone though.

Fuck. I just had a "cheeky" day out then.

Don't tell anyone.

Ugh OP. I feel your pain. I was walking with my young DS recently and a bloke decided to drive over the pavement nearly mowing us down so he could get past the car in front of him that was waiting to turn right. Anyway I was a bit shocked as he nearly ran us over, and him and his passenger proceeded to shout and swear at me! I absolutely hate when stuff like that happens that you didn't deserve, and it honestly really ruined my day!

Hauntedmaison · 10/09/2022 16:19

I feel we need a YABUCheeky section

CatherineMorland · 10/09/2022 16:21

Take it as a compliment OP, you must have looked like you owned the place 😁

But seriously she was clearly having a bad day, try not to give it any more head space.
