To still go to London this weekend?

I don’t mean to be insensitive but we have a weekend planned this weekend in London with the kids doing all the touristy things. Do you think everything will still be open? Our hotel is non refundable so we will lose a few hundred pounds but I don’t want to waste more money on travel and food and drink if it’s all going to be a bit miserable ! Also, it’s going to be very busy isn’t it?
YABU - go
YANBU - cancel

I'd go. There will still be plenty of things you can do.

luxxlisbon · 08/09/2022 20:54

London will be shut.

Twizbe · 08/09/2022 20:55

I'd still go. I plan to take my kids up into town on Sunday to lay some flowers

TwinGirlsOnTheWay · 08/09/2022 20:55

YANBU. This isn't the same event as it would have been even 20 years ago. Just go, and enjoy it

AceSpades54321 · 08/09/2022 20:57

I think everything will still be open, businesses are needing to stay afloat atm 🤷‍♀️

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/09/2022 20:57

Check the websites of the places you are planning to visit. IIRC shops and the like were only closed on the day of Diana's funeral and it might be the same with HM.

Houseplantmad · 08/09/2022 20:58

Go and embrace a historical time in our lives.

CherrySocks · 08/09/2022 20:59

London is always busy. I doubt many tourist things will close.

PicaK · 08/09/2022 20:59

Go. Do your tourist stuff. Go see the Palace too.

bellabasset · 08/09/2022 21:02

I think that it may be busy but fine this weekend and you'll be able to see the floral tributes laid out. I remember the flowers in London the weekend of Diana's funeral were very special.

Sparklingbrook · 08/09/2022 21:02

Absolutely go

FunsizedandFabulous · 08/09/2022 21:06

Oh please come. Everything will be open, London rarely closes these days.

skippy67 · 08/09/2022 21:08

luxxlisbon · 08/09/2022 20:54

London will be shut.

No it won't.

luxxlisbon · 08/09/2022 21:10

skippy67 · 08/09/2022 21:08

No it won't.

Obviously.

Sparklybanana · 08/09/2022 21:16

Yes us too! We waited until September so it wouldn't be quite so busy....

I think we're still going to go and hope that everything is still open. We were going to go to horse guards but that'll be a bit different now. The kids don't really get it. I feel really sad. She was the link between our past and our present, really around the world and now she's gone, there is no replacement. The stability or familiarity she afforded this country is gone and it feels strange.

MrsAvocet · 08/09/2022 21:18

Interested in the replies as we are in exactly the same position. Hotel paid for and non refundable also.
None of the things we had planned have cancelled as yet so we will probably still go but I'm not sure I want to spend the weekend surrounded by huge crowds of mourners and am wondering if transport etc will be difficult. I have some mobility issues and a trip to London is a bit daunting at the best of times so I'm a bit anxious about it being even busier than usual.

sashagabadon · 08/09/2022 21:19

I think things might be shut tomorrow like museums that sort of thing but everything will be open again on Saturday .

justasmalltownmum · 08/09/2022 21:23

Everything will be open as there will be even more people flooding to London over the next week

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 08/09/2022 21:25

I'd love to be able to go to London this weekend to be part of an historic time for the country

By touristy things do you mean indoor things you pay for raher than London and its landmarks?

minipie · 08/09/2022 21:26

I reckon nearly everything will be open. However I would avoid Buckingham Palace area unless you’ve got a lot of time to spare - DH walked through there this eve on his commute and said it was packed and hard to get through. There were lots of people hanging round and people heading there bringing floral tributes, imagine even more so this weekend.

gabsdot45 · 08/09/2022 21:28

I'm in the same position. I'm traveling with my daughter from Dublin to go to the Harry Potter studios tomorrow and then into London on Saturday to see a show.
I hope we'll still be able to do what we've planned and it'll certainly be memorable.

luxxlisbon · 08/09/2022 20:54

London will be shut.

??

9 million people live in London. It will not be shut.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/09/2022 21:36

9 million people live in London. It will not be shut.

This!

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 08/09/2022 21:39

The royal palaces may be closed. Otherwise I think it'll be pretty normal.

Twilightstarbright · 08/09/2022 22:06

London zoo is closed tomorrow.
I’d guess all the palaces will be too. What touristy things do you want to do exactly?
