To still go to London this weekend?

I don’t mean to be insensitive but we have a weekend planned this weekend in London with the kids doing all the touristy things. Do you think everything will still be open? Our hotel is non refundable so we will lose a few hundred pounds but I don’t want to waste more money on travel and food and drink if it’s all going to be a bit miserable ! Also, it’s going to be very busy isn’t it?

You know people live there right?

PMAmostofthetime · 08/09/2022 22:16

@Wineiscooling only the national day of morning which is 19th September things will be closed. It will be extra busy this weekend as people will flock to London now.

Go and have fun. I'm taking my children out in London this weekend and expect to have fun.

London will be shut.

It absolutely won't.

Wineiscooling · 08/09/2022 23:06

Thanks for the replies. We were just intending on museums, Madame Tussauds, the London eye, dungeons (also open to suggestions!) we hadn’t actually booked anything yet except HMS Belfast as my son has a massive Navy and military interest but it looks like it’s business as usual. Obviously I didn’t think the whole of London would shut but I was concerned museums etc would close out of respect. Having thought about it though, even if places were closed, it is a part of history that I think it would be interesting for my children to see. So we’ll go and have a wander, maybe go to Buckingham Palace if we can get near and take some flowers. I’m not a Royalist but I have a great respect for the queen and how hard she worked for our country.

you Probably won’t even notice anything! We live in london and went into central during jubilee celebration, was exactly the same as usual

Afterfire · 08/09/2022 23:11

Why would everything be shut?! Maybe tomorrow it might be a bit weird but by the weekend things will be open and normal again. It might actually be a really interesting time to visit.

oreobiscitz · 09/09/2022 07:22

Yes but avoid Buckingham palace

London will be shut.

No it won't

MrsToothyBitch · 09/09/2022 07:30

It really won't be shut. Stuff not to do with the royals most likely won't be shut and people still need to make money; and the influx of people will be welcome to lots of business who've had a crap couple of years.

Just stay away from the Palaces unless you want to join in. It'll be a very interesting weekend to be in London.

Definitely go. Why should it ruin your fun?

DappledThings · 09/09/2022 08:07

If I wasn't on Mumsnet it wouldn't cross mind to think anything would be shut or that anyone would be cancelling parties etc.

I'd go. Check individual places you were planning to go to but otherwise will be normal.

I think some people expect the entire country to be like Auden's Funeral Blues.
