To take my toddler to a leg wax?

SpicyJalfrezi · 06/09/2022 20:06

DH didn’t tell me he was working away tomorrow. Have a leg wax booked (going on holiday Thursday.)

Is it completely insane to stick DS (20 months) in a pushchair and hope he doesn’t yell the place down? He is very active.

If the salon is small there could be a lot dangerous even strapped in a buggy I know my wax room is tiny and I could reach everything pretty much from lay on the bed

Anunusualfamily · 06/09/2022 20:09

Tiny sleeping newborn maybe older child sat in the corner with a screen maybe….active toddler no way! I would call to ask if they allow it and be led by them.

SpicyJalfrezi · 06/09/2022 20:10

I’ve been before and he wouldn’t be in any danger if he was in the pushchair. But he wouldn’t be happy about it and would make his feelings known 😬😬

I thought you were going to get your toddlers legs waxed 🤣 I don’t think it’s that unreasonable. Can you pop Hey Duggee on your phone while he’s in the buggy or something?

UpYourOwnAss · 06/09/2022 20:11

They will most likely tell you they don't have the licence for children to enter the salon.
I tried when I wanted to get my eye lashes done- well just the part where they test the glue on you for 24hrs (takes 5mins).

germsandcoffee · 06/09/2022 20:14

Give him something to nibble on or a phone to watch cartoons on and he will be fine 🤷‍♀️

georgarina · 06/09/2022 20:14

Some places don't have permits for kids to be on the premises. I would call and ask

DiscoBadgers · 06/09/2022 20:16

I read that as getting your toddler’s legs waxed Grin

So did I 🤣

I used to work in a salon. If he’s likely to sit happily playing with a toy or watching a tablet, it would be ok. However if he’s going to be very unhappy, perhaps crying or having a temper tantrum. Then this might be very distracting for the therapist and perhaps wouldn’t be fair on say the person in the room next door trying to enjoy a peaceful massage. Maybe phone the salon to ask?

Castaspell · 06/09/2022 20:17

Should be fine but do call ahead as a courtesy.

SpicyJalfrezi · 06/09/2022 20:18

I’ll call and ask, thank you. Normally I’d just rearrange but a pain on this occasion. Mr Tumble on my iPad might just work!

Mrsjayy · 06/09/2022 20:22

Something he usually doesn't get to eat i suggest a packet of wotsitsand the ipad and hopefully he will be alright .

Thatboymum · 06/09/2022 20:26

I’d be pissed if I went to get a treatment and somebody else’s kid was squealing through my appt to be honest

SpicyJalfrezi · 06/09/2022 20:27

It’s a one woman place. If anyone else is there they will be waiting for treatment, she’s the only beautician.

One of my earliest memories is sitting through my mum's leg wax 😊

Even so, OP! Hardly the relaxing start you want for a massage or a treatment.

i would be pissed off if I was the next client. No one wants to listen to your toddler squawking it’s way through something on a tablet, and I really don’t think your beauty therapist wants her salon stinking of wotsits. Just rebook.

loudlylikealion · 06/09/2022 20:32

tbh there's no way I'd take a daughter they get enough pressure without exposing them to leg waxing. Sons might be different I guess.

SpicyJalfrezi · 06/09/2022 20:33

I can understand some element of not wanting to listen to a toddler when having a massage or similar, but sitting on a bench outside a room? Come on!

It’s a relaxing treat. Listening to your toddler is not a treat.

i don’t know why you can’t see this is inappropriate.

SpicyJalfrezi · 06/09/2022 20:40

Sitting outside a room is not a treat in any way.

(plus I would argue that a leg wax is not a relaxing treat but I know what you mean!)

OP you need to understand us busy women in high pressure jobs cherish the moment's peace of a leg wax. Whenever I'm stressed I book one - or if I'm really worked up a bikini wax. Mmmm so relaxing having leg hair ripped from its follicles. Such zen.

I mean, I’d argue a beauty salon isn’t a crèche too and kids should not be welcome there but it sounds like you’ve already decided to inflict your ‘active’ toddler on everyone else. Bet your beauty therapist will be absolutely made up!

CrispsAndChoc · 06/09/2022 20:48

I’ve taken both my children before when I’ve had to but checked I could before I went each time. I give them my phone/tablet. For a previous poster who said she wouldn’t take a daughter-My six year old daughter came along for my last appointment (The second time she’s been in her life and I have had a wax every 6 weeks since before she was born)and we had an interesting conversation after about if she would do it when she’s older. She’s decided she won’t but will have pedicures with blue nail polish!

SpicyJalfrezi · 06/09/2022 20:50

to be honest I think ds is a bit too young to notice or care (assuming that was a serious post, I thought it was a joke!)
