Why do men put the tea towel or oven gloves over their shoulder when they’re cooking?

Just that really. DH does it. He slings them over his shoulder as if he’s bloody Gordon Ramsey. Then I can’t find them because they’re on his stupid shoulder. He’s only dishing up crinkle cut chips and beans fgs.

I do this all the time, except I don’t forget that they are there. It’s not a bloke thing!

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 05/09/2022 20:42

I do that.

It's mainly because if I don't I put it somewhere where it's not meant to be and rush around trying to find it.

I do know the obvious answer is to put it back where it belongs but I tend to just sling it over my shoulder.

33goingon64 · 05/09/2022 20:42

I do it too (female)

MrsMitford3 · 05/09/2022 20:42

whispers I do it too.
I am not a man.

Snooks1971 · 05/09/2022 20:43

Oh no
its just me then who doesn’t 😂

I do this. Always have. So does my mum (I probably learned this from her).

Neither of us think we're Gordon Ramsey. Confused

BogRollBOGOF · 05/09/2022 20:44

Maybe it's connected to their need to wrap their arm around the passenger seat when reversing. 🤔😂

loudbatperson · 05/09/2022 20:44

I do it too (I'm a woman), so the towel at hand for touching hot saucepan handles, grabbing trays and quickly mopping up a spill.

terriblyangryattimes · 05/09/2022 20:44

I have done it for years, but I do remember it's there. I worked as a chef for a few years way back when so it's ingrained. Better than it being tucked into the waistband of my chefs checked trousers 🤪

CandyLeBonBon · 05/09/2022 20:45

I do it too

PermanentTemporary · 05/09/2022 20:45

I do it too. Learned it from my mum who was in fact a trained cook, but it's just much more convenient.

monty09 · 05/09/2022 20:46

I do it all the time, everyone is always looking for it 😂

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 05/09/2022 20:51

I do it too. Otherwise I leave it lying around somewhere and cannot find it again

fairgame84 · 05/09/2022 20:51

DH does it. It annoys me and I don't know why.

Snooks1971 · 05/09/2022 20:52

Right. I’m going to deliberately ignore the lovely posters who do this all the time and only fixate only on the ones that agree with me.

How dare you side with DH 🤓

Ah, you’re married to my husband. We always end up with about 10 bastard tea towels in use at the end of the night because I’ll see we don’t have one and get one out, then it disappears onto his shoulder like a fucking parrot.

Yes! Voice of reason!

I definitely do this too so I know where they are. Glad I'm not the only one with oven glove losing habits

PhotoDad · 05/09/2022 20:54

I don't, and I'm a man! Mind you, I am forever looking to find where I put them down mid-cooking, so perhaps I should?

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 05/09/2022 20:54

I always do this.
It's not a man v woman thing.

Yes - like a stunt parrot
you’ve nailed it

You do realise that this helps to stabilise your body when reversing.

It's also a manly man thing to do, hence why so many men do it 😂

Not just you - I don't do it either. Neither does DH though...

BEAM123 · 05/09/2022 20:58

I don't like seeing this, gives me the ick. I always think of the person breathing on it or dropping dandruff and hair on it. Not too bad if it's your own DH doing that though, I guess....

NeverDropYourMooncup · 05/09/2022 20:59

Wish mine did it.

I just find them scattered over the kitchen, down the back of the tumble dryer, on top of the vegetable rack or in the FUCKING SINK.
